Spirit guides and gut feelings

Gut feelings. Guides can poke you in the gut when you’re experiencing something they want you to pay attention to. Following your gut feelings is probably a good idea. Have you ever had this eerie feeling that something terrible was going to happen but you couldn’t quite put your finger on it? That might be a guide poking you in your gut.

This is an exert from one of Erinn's blogs and I just need a little clarity on this. I understand that when guides poke me in the gut I'm experiencing something they want me to pay attention to. But, why would they want me to pay attention to something that's bad?

For example my parents are going through a divorce and they are both constantly at each other's throats (and have been their entire marriage) and I can tell my guides are poking me in the gut, and now I know that means I'm experiencing something they want me to pay attention to. But why on earth would my spirit guides want me to pay attention to something so negative? Do you guys get what I'm saying?
