As many of you who read my posts on this sub-forum know, I'm kind of a skeptic. I've always been interested in psychic and paranormal stuff, but from what I've seen, most of it can be explained through science. Having said that, automatic writing has always fascinated me. While I don't think it might be messages from spirits, it sure looks like a cool thing to do - especially if it can pull up messages from your subconscious that are hidden away back there, or help you brainstorm ideas for short stories. So, the topic of the post? Automatic writing. Have you tried it for...
And, how do you go about doing it? Just stare blankly into space while typing away? I'm not to sure 'cause I've never tried it myself, just read about it here and there. Any and all viewpoints are welcome! It sure looks like an interesting topic that can start some discussion.

Tried your advice, got some interesting results! (wha...!!!) I asked some basic questions regarding random things in life, and I got some answers that were typed in my personal journaling style, but sounded completely foreign to me (not my way of thinking). Hrm... Then I botched it up by saying "This can't be me!", and freezing up. I'm waiting for a bit, then I'll attempt again. Even if it is just my mind making things up (which I'm still leaning towards), it sure throws a whole new light on looking at experiences.

To me, it does, because I'm highly skeptical regarding all things psychic and paranormal. In the long run, I suppose it doesn't matter... it's a cool thing to attempt, anyway.

If you're that skeptical about this sort of thing, yet you try it, has your skepticism diminished any since starting to experiment? THis is not aime at you at all, but I have found that skeptics I know personally tend to stay skeptical and not unbend even a little. If you're using the term to say "I'm not going to commit yet to belief in this stuff, but I probably will do and am looking forward to learning new stuff', that's great. However, the skeptics I know are of the type which say, 'I'm skeptical about this, and I'm not interested in finding things out which will tip up my beliefs so I'm never going to change.' I think that one of the most liberating things is simply to decide that the scientific paradigm is just as valid as any other and not the only thing by which to judge the world. Once I got over that, I felt a lot better and had a lot more interesting experiences. |

I really, really, really, really, really wanted to be an automatic writing channel. When I really, really, really, tried; I failed miserably. I did the whole thing sit quietly for at least half-hour, hold the pencil lightly, have a lighted candle, etc. What started back in the 90s for me, after I gave up on the writing, was when I was doing something as mundane as washing dishes or dusting; I would hear take a message. I would write these messages down on 3x5 cards and then later on either in a dream or intuitively, I would be told who to give it to. None of the messages were ever for me. I guess I was the channel. What I would really like is automatic typing, like the reporter Ruth Montgomery. S |

I used to do a lot of automatic writing, with who I called Sophia, my spirit guide. I didn't give her that name, she told me. I have pages upon pages of her writing. As mentioned above, stuff I would never think to write about, and not in a way that I would write. With two small children constantly at my ankles, I don't have a moment to myself for the most part these days. Hopefully, I can get back into it eventually once I'm guaranteed at least an hour quiet time. |

They are for whomever asks. I usually just put pen to paper and she writes a LOT about how much the universe loves us. I don't usually ask specific questions. I can see what she looks like, though. I have a very clear image of her, but she's told me that she just uses that image because I can understand it and it's non-threatening. So, it's that type of stuff she writes. I suppose if someone asked a question I could ask her. She said most of the time her hand can't keep up. She has several other manuscripts that she has handwritten that she wants to type out. Now, she gets many coming through. She receives very specific people, too. She ALSO does readings for people using auto writing. |

Thanks Anagogy. That's a great source of info through your suggested hyperlink. I also find the kind of automatic writing explored through this thread can be very insightful. It also helps to relax and keep an open mind. |

Sophia: Goddess of Wisdom & God's Bride Perhaps this is the purpose of automatic writing, the same purpose as praying, or meditating, etc. To associate the highest part of ourselves with an aspect of God. Or in non-spirtual terms, to seek the deeper parts of our subconcious and find true meaning and wisdom. Last edited by Chado2423; 09-22-2007 at 07:48 PM. |
