I'm new to the whole 6th sense thing, except for pretty reasonable natural empathy, which I also don't know how to develop... but that's a separate issue. I feel drawn to healing, and often can help friends work through grief, release pain, or make hard decisions. But I'd like to see if I can heal physical ailments, also. Does anyone know any good resources for that? Websites, books, magazines, etc? Thanks, |

| I have been in the "healing field" all my life... and what I do believe to be true is that you can heal people if they think you can... Actually they are doing their own healing... you are the only the facilitator... As an example... if I had a piece of wood... and people thought it was a piece of wood from Jesus' cross... many people could be cured simply by touching it... however, that piece of wood would not have done it... they, themselves, would have affected the healing... You, as a healer, have three tools at your disposal... love, empathy and compassion... and, if you can physically touch that patient, in a kind and reassuring way... those tools become very much more effective... Hope this helps you... . |

I've also started working on this around the beginning of the summer. For a website, Chios Energy Healing ( Aura and Chakra Healing ) - Alternative Medicine / Holistic Health was quite good. I use some of what I read there, though I haven't bothered with the attunements they offer, so I can't vouch for if that part is worth it or not. But some of the methods provided have worked well for me. If you'd prefer something published, I recommend Light Emerging by Barbara Brennan. A friend recommended it to me recently, and I've found a lot of useful insights so far. It has also helped me confirm I'm doing some of the more minor things properly. I'm still working my way through it, but it's been a good read so far. Other than those two resources, there's also the choice of building your own system that works for you, by reading as much as you can where ever you can find it. Along with a base in psionics, that's how I got started. Also note though, I've only worked on myself so far, so anything I've done could have been placebo as well as legitimate. Regardless of which, it was effective for me, but as of now, I'm unsure how well any of it will work when I'm ready to begin working on other people as well. |

Shamou, I love the point you made - that people do their own healing, and we're only the facilitators. I've encountered quite a few individuals who have the "I'm the healer - let me fix you" attitude (shudder!). Ahimel - often it is a wonderful opportunity to receive sessions of modalities that you're drawn to, whether that is energy healing work, psychic healing work, or bodywork of any kind. Some modalities will really resonate with you, and others will just be kinda nice. Let that be a guide for you. It's a good idea to be on the client side of things at least once before facilitating healing in others. Over time, the modalities and avenues best suited to you will reveal themselves, as you draw those experiences to you according to your highest path and purpose. |

If you're looking for books, there's not much out there I'm aware of. Barbara Brennan as mentioned previously has two good books. FWIW don't think there's a right way and a wrong way to heal. Barbara takes a very structured approach to healing. I left her school because I felt it was too structured for me and I sought something a little different. If her way of doing it works for you, great. If not, be open to finding another modality (or make your own). And you may like the structure at first (as I did) and then switch gears later on. Many people are into Reiki. I don't know much about it, but I'm sure there's a lot online you can read. As Shamou said, the person does their own healing, you just bring more awareness, consciousness, and fire to them. If you're into the more earthy energies, a book or class on Shamanism might be your thing. I took a class with some shamans about 5 years ago. I loved it and mix some of their practices into my own healing work. |

Hello Amanda There are many good healing modalities worth exploring, and I believe it is a matter of going with what draws you, or what suits you. I am using an energy healing called Quantum Touch (QT). It is so easy to learn that some people teach their kids to do it. There are workshops, but it can also be learned from a book. Practice is what makes one good at it. I am working at becoming a practitioner, and aiming to achieve this before the year ends. The basis of QT is the use of particular breathing to create or raise the level of energy in the hands and use them for healing. Similar to what Shamou said, QT also says the healer is the person being healed. The energy just helps the persons body more readily do what it is doing all the time. The practitioner is merely facilitating the energy through the hands. There is more to it, but that is an attempt to give you an idea about it. I have used this with other people, but also had people use it on myself with positive results. If you have a look on their web site about claims of bones moving and various other things, I can verify that I have seen these things with people I have worked on, and on myself when I was seeing a practitioner about 3 years for my spinal curvature. In the end, only you know what suits you, but I believe It really is at least worth checking out. The community in the forum is really good too. The links for it is Quantum-Touch: The Power to Heal I am a little confused when you said; "I'm new to the whole 6th sense thing, except for pretty reasonable natural empathy" , because you then said that you don’t how to develop it. Can you see or understand how that sounds contradicting when you say it is natural to you and then say you don’t know how to develop? I am not finger pointing, but merely trying to understand what exactly you mean. When you mentioned empathy, are you referring to understanding another person / being able to place yourself in another’s shoes, or are you referring to being sensitive to what another person is actually feeling &/ or the emotion they are experiencing? All of these are skills that can be useful in healing. From what you have said so far, they sound like counseling skills. If like myself, you are someone who picks up or actually experiences what another person is feeling, then it could be very useful for doing energy work, or even some of the more conventional healing work as well. Any skill or ability, no matter how small, can be cultivated to become more than what it may be at a particular time. Let us know how you go and what works for you. |

Thanks to everyone. I will definitely check out the links, and see what I can find on Brennan. I appreciate getting reviews in advance. Quote:
I'm in kind of the same boat. I'm generally able to sense what other people are feeling. I can almost certainly tell whether someone is in a good or bad mood just by standing next to them, and can frequently tell you whether the bad mood is anger, frustration, depression, fear, etc.... I can also often (after talking to them for a bit) find the words that will ease that emotion; I don't know why I chose to say that, but the right words appear in my mind. But I would like to get better at it. I'd like to be able to sense those emotions more accurately, and more often be able to find the healing words. I'd also like to move it into the physical realm, if possible -- to be able to feel the cramp in their back or the strain in their ankle, and be able to heal those as well. And I have NO idea how to go about that. What I am able to do, I do instinctively. I don't know how to do it on purpose, much less how to do it better. Don't know if any of that explanation helps in any way, but I hope it clarifies a bit. | |
