Hello all, this is my first post and i'm hoping you guys could shed some light on this experience.... I am familiar with sp and have experienced it quite a few times. However, last night I had quite a different experience which I am assuming is sp but who knows - maybe something bordering on an out of body experience?? I realised in the middle of the night that I was awake and paralysed, I was lying flat on my back and my eyes were open, I could see the room quite clearly in the darkness - it looked normal - nothing strange. But then, I felt my whole body vibrating, it was like my skin was vibrating. There was a humming/buzzzing noise which started off quietly but gradually became louder and louder - and in turn the vibrations became more and more intense in sync with the noise. I remember being able to think during this whole experience, I was scared and felt some kind of impending 'doom' or 'evil' as if this thing would end, but I didn't know how. I told myself wait and see what happens, but the noise and vibrations got stronger, I felt like there would be an outcome or final 'thing' at the end, but I couldn't take it anymore and I shook myself out of it. Then I was lying in bed and my body was still tingiling, I was a little scared to go back to sleep but it was ok. Anyone know what this might be or has anyone had a simlar experience? I keep wondering what would happen if I let it continue?? |

It is R.E.M. sleep (Sleep Paralysis) maybe you could be having a episode of Night Terror. When you sense the intense vibration or electricity your body could enter into a Lucid Dreaming or Projection state. Any way this is not uncommon. If you use a higher vibration in your aura the "bad" sensation could disappear. Because of it that some persons pray for God or visualize a bright aura of good feelings (example Love ). A person could try to make this three times a day , before sleeping , after awaken and in some other hour. |

What you're describing is the sensation of your astral body separating from your physical body. It's frequency/vibration is increasing to allow the separation to occur. First time it happened to me I was scared out of my mind. Read the story here. What you want to do is once you get to the end of the tingling sensation, try lifting your arms out of your body. You probably were experiencing dual consciousness as well, which is when your physical eyes are closed but you can see with your astral eyes. You can feel your physical eyes are closed but you can still see. It's really rare to even get to the tingling phase so consider yourself blessed and try projecting |

Thank you Erin and Yukio for your responses, I did think it was bordering on some kind of projection, but I felt scared that I might disappear altogether or die - the vibration was so strong! Also, before falling asleep when this happened, it was like my mind was trying to 'drag' me into sleep before I was ready - like I started to dream while still awake. "You probably were experiencing dual consciousness as well, which is when your physical eyes are closed but you can see with your astral eyes. You can feel your physical eyes are closed but you can still see." I think you may be right - at the time it felt so real like I was fully concious - but i probably wasn't. Now that its the day after, I don't remember it as well as when I first woke up and told my husband about it! I will read your story, Erin, thank you! |

I also remember feeling extremely heavy during this experience, like I was sinking into the bed. Hey and another funney thing is - I always sleep wearing a sleeping mask, so maybe I was seeing through my eyes while they were closed It makes me wonder why this happened at all, why now? At first I thought it was because I was taking some melatonin to help me sleep lately - this normally helps me get to sleep a lot easier and gives me more vivid and memorable dreams - but that experience was totally exceptional! So, Erin, what happens after the vibrational state? In my experience it became so intense I wasn't sure what the outcome would be |

It's been happening to me about 1-6 times a week since I was 15. At first, I was pretty scared like most people, then eventually I started to enjoy it. It's so common for me now that most of the time I just shake it off and go back to sleep without trying to go any father. If you let it continue, it does often get too powerful and you can't stand it anymore - or it will crack and you'll be out. This stage could be the beginning of many fun things for you! Enjoy. |

Yes, like AK Light said... you get to this point where you feel kinda pushed out by the vibrational intensity. Or, you can just shake it off and go to sleep instead. When I was 16, I would always go out. Nowadays when the sensation comes over me I'm like, "Ah...I got nowhere to go and nothing to do, I'm going back to sleep." But recently I thought maybe there is a reason the feeling came over me, so I went ahead and detached, flew down the hall to my little boy's room, and observed some interesting phenomenon there. So the next time it happens I'm going to assume there is a reason and go with it.

In his book, Astral Dynamics, Robert Bruce goes into mind numbing details about what you just talked about. Erin mentioned dual consciousness, he talks about that too and the fear that can be associated with it.

Y'know now its funney that I think about other experiences ive had. Like 6 months ago, I had a rhinoplasty surgery and I remember waking up and saying to the operating staff, "you know im not asleep - I need more drugs - im still awake"- and I was fine afterwards - I asked the nurses about it and they said "no you didn't say anything"...but I know I woke up and seeing them operating on me and being afraid of the "pain" but there was none. I guess there's more for me to explore here... if it happens again, I will try and keep a more positive frame of mind and see what happens. I didn't know that it was rare to feel the vibrational state so easily - wow! |

Erin, that's quite interesting. Maybe I'll actually try to leave next time too, just for kicks to see what might happen. Lychee, I can only tell you of my own experience. I have not done any formal study on the subject, but I have experienced it first hand hundreds of times, if not more. Usually it happens to me 20 or 30 minutes after I fall asleep. It doesn't matter if I've gone to bed for the night or if I'm just taking a nap. My method is probably not one that can be taught easily, but it's definitely easy to perform. If I ever want to do it on purpose (which is rare) all I have to do is just to have the thought "I'll do it tonight." Then it just automatically happens about 85% of the time, 20 or 30 minutes after I've fallen asleep. I seem to be able to make up my mind when my body is asleep. From there, I can induce the vibrations, dream, or think about something very deeply. Do you ever wake up before you actually open your eyes? If you can do that, you might have an easier time. Also, there are mp3 files that you can download that are supposed to help you induce OBEs. I only tried it once and it worked. There's probably a few more methods that you could find by doing a search. |
