Smile Immortality

So if all of our souls are just living out our lives just to cleanse our karma, then we are all in essence immortal right? It sucks having to forget everything again but I can understand why since it's the only way to give up our past relationships and bonds. I wonder if we can choose not to come back...

Default immortal

immortality of the existance is what counts as immortal.
that of "i cannot die" is immortallity of the physical part that makes you.

sure there are techniques to prolong life, and those that stops aging, immortality of the body requires a lot of experimenting on your body, or a connection to death itself to where you might be able to negate your own death.

it is innatural by nature that we live on physically, but our wishes provide us the path towards immortality.

once you die you don`t have a lot of choices, depends on your will.
there are nore places then heaven and hell to go to.

same as being reborn, it`s not a choice.
in fact your part of the biggest recycle program that ever existed.
if you are reborn.

you can choose not to come back, but you pay a price for that, and it`s not a nice one.

Is it? Why do you think it is unnatural?

People hold this opinion because its what the society has believed for a long time, but its not necessarily true.

If we were to follow the natural path of our physical existence, we would die at age 35 of some disease.

I believe in immortality on earth, and this isnt more "unnatural" than to live beyond age 35 with the help of modern medicine. Once we have the possibility, with help of medicine, of having unlimited lifespans on earth, it wont be that "unnatural" anymore, or would it?

If you believe in reincarnation, it might be unnatural to go on with the physical body, but reincarnation and spiritual immortality isnt proven to exist, so i would be more careful with my convictions.

You speak as if what you say is fact. In essense though, you aren't really saying anything at all... Would you care to elaborate on the recycle program and how it is not a choice, how you know about choosing not to come back and this "price" you pay. I mean bro I can sit here on this forum all day spouting recycled guru babble but what does it really mean...ya dig?

Here's what I like to say when the subject of the afterlife comes up in a debate:

"When you die, there is either an afterlife, or."

I respectfully disagree.

You are infinite. Any choice you make is yours and yours alone to make.

Why knowing it will get me closer to my desire?

Do you mean that my mind (spirit, soul) is going to last forever after i die?

Sincerely, i didnt understand what you mean

Make your "body" immortal, it's really just an extension of your mind.

And yes, you will never die.

Wow inifnite are you seriousily believing that you can just tell ourself "ill be 20 forever and youll be so?" maybe in your mind, but your body will rot, you will die, and when your reborn(if reincarnation is true) youll see that you went wrong in this life and now have to figure out all over again. Infact your stating you created god and not the other way around?

So you believe your 'I' is a by product of your body?
'You' are an accidental by-product of electro-chemical processes of the brain?

If you don't believe this, I'm curious what your belief system is?

If you wanna break the cycle of old, outmoded, religous thinking, you're gonna have to give up your defintions of 'god'.

Sam, see explanation below why I had a good chuckle. And it's not directed at you in any way. I hope you don't take it that way.

What is matter?
Is it solid ?
Science tells us it's simply energy/vacuum/emptiness.
Condensed energy, one could say.

If you look at the core of matter, there is nothing there.
It's mostly empty.

Only atoms and their nucleuses, with inconceivable vast emptiness between them.

I think I'm 'god' ?

No.

1) I have a problem with that word. Because of the history of that word, it sets up something that is not true.

I'd rather say, that what exists is, simply.............. IS'NESS.
I simply exist. I have always existed, I will always exist.

2) You exist. You have always existed, you will always exist.

3) Sam988;74914 exists, has always existed, and will always exist.

Again.
To say that we are 'god' or are 'gods', or 'god' exists.....uses a word that has a history behind it, and because of this can never fully convey what we are.

I hope you see the points I'm making?

Default immortality

I truly believe in the Immortality of the Soul.

And I do believe in the Power of the Water and the Air.

God is immortal, He made us in His image, therefore we are immortal.

Since I really started believing in reincarnation my outlook on life has really changed, I no longer find myself lamenting on missing out on things when I was younger, I just make plans to do it next life . And I do believe that learning this during this lifetime will definitely affect my next life. I might not remember them but the seed will be planted.

Immortality is related to physical existance. It would be stupid to say our souls are immortal because everything is immortal...do you feel me?

I think most people that hope for immortality really haven't thought through what it means. My worst nightmare would be to find out that I'm an immortal being.

Immortality sounds great but really it only seems that way because your thinking about it in terms of your short life or thinking of all the great things you want to see and do. Mark my words, there will come a time whether it is in 1 trillion "years", 99 sextillion "years", or some other humongous number when you will become BORED. Bored to the point that none of us can even begin to fathom. You'll stay that way for what will seem an eternity until that next spark comes along that grabs your interest. This cycle will continue for all of ETERNITY! Bored, interested, Bored.

On top of that you have to ask yourself, what is the point or purpose of it all? Lets say for argument, that all is one, there is one god and we are all a part of him. As fragments of god our purpose, as many claim, may be to return to god but what is god's purpose? When all that truly exists is yourself for all eternity your only purpose is simply to stave off your own boredom.

It's an ongoing battle that you can never win and will continue for all Eternity! So personally, I hope there is no afterlife or if there is, I hope that I could end my existence when I wish.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist... but if we are immortal beings, we're all going to be pessimists at some point. Thats when the boredom sets in.

Consider this question;
An immortal being in a finite system, or an immortal being in an infinite system?

Now. If you were an immortal in a finite system, I'd agree with you.
But as I exist in an infinite system, as do you, I disagree with you.

Agreed. Most people think of how it would be boring for an immortal to live in a culture created by others with a life expectancy of 80-120 years tops. Naturally that would get old, just as most 40 year olds would have little enduring interest in a culture created by 5 year olds. If most everyone were living near infinite lifespans with near infinite intelligence, culture and creation could become increasingly complex and interesting.

No haven't read him. But I like what I've seen so far from flicking thru his books.
But as you say, others have written about these facts.

Old Soul is an unknown quantity at this point
Default

I think our spirit is eternal... it lives throughout the ages, beyond time as we know it.... our intellect and will and skin color and carnal body is the covering / the housing of our spirit

spirit, However is designed to work with soul, and mind ,,,,,,,,,, anyone agree? disagree?
