Just ten minutes ago i was in my bathroom, when all of a sudden i heard something at my window, so i looked over at the window and could make out through the stained glass window a single magpie, it kept trying to get through the window, all the while it was looking in my direction as though it was trying to get to me. I am sure the bird could see the glass in its way because i have to straign my eyes to look through it.It was a weird occurance. |

For a long time big birds freaked me out (phobia). But then a couple of years ago we took a holiday in a cottage with magpies being quite intrusive (friendly, but when you have a phobia, intrusive sounds more like it). One came on the deck as my two years old boy was there, I freaked and went back inside, called him inside but he refused to budge. The magpie flew to the deck rail close to him, they stared at each other's and the magpie sang to him... (and that's when I decided to get professional help for my phobia). Here's what the Australian magpies sound like, it's really quite pretty: Australian magpie singing - YouTube |

There's a nursery rhyme about magpies! Unfortunately, it starts with One for sorrow, goes on to say the sight of two magpies means mirth, three for a wedding, four for a birth. I'd prefer to think that One means the poor magpie has no friends will you be its friend??!?! |
