A question for Tarot card readers

Question: when doing a reading is it normal practice to let the person having the reading handle the cards and shuffle them?

A friend taught me that when I do a reading I am the only one to handle the cards( so my energy is the only one on the cards) and the other person asks their question. This works well for me and the required cards pop to the front of the pack.

One friend was annoyed that she didn't get to handle the cards at her reading.

I'm not a tarot reader, but it might contribute if I add that the first person who spread the cards for me had me shuffle and handle the cards myself. After the reading was over, I was skeptical and grabbed the cards, reshuffled them, and spread them out again. The cards that came up on the second round were the exact same cards that came up on the first, so you could say "the magic" was still at work.

I always have the querent shuffle the deck - to get their energy into the cards. That being said, I can also do readings without a tool...It just depends on what my guides tell me at the time.

Each reader does it differently.
