There is still doubt that the gardens at Babylon ever existed. A documentary (about 5yrs ago, can't remember the title) looked at available information about the gardens. From the research, the popular concept of the gardens is not practical. Evidence suggest the hanging gardens were probably arranged in tiers on terraces, watered as any normal garden. Compton's Encyclopedia has some interesting entries about the gardens. As to all the other lost arts and construction skills, they're mostly lost because they're not needed or better methods outmoded them. Technology, study of artifacts and documents have contributed to recovery of lost knowledge. For example, the discovery and decipherment of religious texts is currently expanding the understanding of biblical knowledge. Recently, restoration work on the Parthenon uncovered how the blocks were pinned together. The discovery has shown the ancient technique is far superior to modern construction methods. It is thought this may improve current restoration methods and explain the inadequacy of earlier restorations. However, it's unlikely the method will change construction work as a whole, which I believe it should. (Discovery channel documentary). Change and passage of time are inevitable and will affect what is or is not. Such is life; things come into being, serve their purpose, decay into dust. Loss of knowledge is not proof of our failure to evolve, rather the opposite. Gaining new knowledge or skills and discarding the earlier practices is a distinct sign that the brain and body has adapted to take advantage of a new method. For example, prior to Raphael's studies in art, perspective and proportion were little understood. While artists of his period were heavily influenced by the skill of Greek and Roman art, yet they didn't have a clear-cut set of rules for perspective. Raphael laid out the rules of perspective, and proportion in relation to perspective, to the degree it changed art for the better. In art studies, the skills discovered by Rennaisance artists are still part of the basic education. One of my reasons for delving into the deep past was that I felt we once had much greater psychic skill that we do now. By investigating the past, answers to current psychic and paranormal development may be uncovered. My intense interest in the paranormal and psychic abilities is due to the idea that human evolution is naturally progressing along these paths. It's already well established that our bodies and brain are probably as well developed as needed, but that does not mean further refinement is not possible. Small changes continue, such as the diminishment of the tail bone. It hardly needs a great spiritual awakening to evolve these skills or progress as a species. We are already in the midst of a spiritual awakening that has been ongoing for around a hundred years. The very existence of this site and forum is a good example of spiritual change. All the members are changing their lives and developing a new spiritual awareness. Through studies of the vast accumulated knowledge, they are reshaping their minds and way of life. These people are evolved and evolving beings. Perhaps there is a store of lost knowledge that would greatly advance progress, but we don't have it and there's no reason current exploration won't recover that knowledge in some new form. As I said before, evolution is continuous and slow, requiring a catalyst to make huge leaps of progress. The industrial revolution, for instance, was a catalyst that changed the world drastically. Up to that point, changes in human existence were minor, progressive developments. Posts relevent to this article are on the Indigo Children thread, under the contributions by OlderWiser and myself.
