This thing is a genius! I really resonate with the second line.

The stuff you read in that I Ching Online is one interpretation of I Ching. Actually, it comes from a combination of interpretations written by some of the ancient masters.

My understanding is that those interpretations are not specifically written for you and you can't take those interpretations literally to yourself.

For "proper" practice, once you obtain your lines of combinations of Yin and Yang (from casting, your birthday date and time, etc), an I Ching Master would interpret it for you.

I Ching is only a tool. Just like people using stars or cards as tools. Tools are not important. Interpretation is important.

Many I Ching practitioners may not be able to provide you good interpretations, if they only learn it from books and courses, although there are a few who can give you accurate readings, so I heard. I have indirectly heard from some very successful I Ching practitioners that the untold secrete is that when they do interpretations, they feel as if they were "possessed" and words just came out from their mouths automatically. This may be similar to the medium or channelling stuff.

Thunder, you're right that what you read there is various people's interpretations rather than what the I Ching itself actually says. Trying to have a conversation with the oracle through that is a bit like trying to get to know someone by listening to what their friend says about them. If the friend knows them really well this might work out OK - but if you had the option you'd talk to the person themselves.

Through translations (rather than just commentaries/interpretations), you do have the option. Let's see... what to recommend...?

After you've cast your reading at ichingonline, you could head over to I Ching, Oracle of the Sun where you'll find LiSe Heyboer's work. This is wonderful. There's both translation and her own interpretation (very good - she is one of the I Ching's very closest friends).

There is more than one way to work with the I Ching. There's the old-fashioned way, just plain reading the words and images. You might want some help with that, but you can certainly do it for yourself - in fact, your own response to the imagery is your best guide. My site has all the free information you need to get started, and an online community of people helping one another with readings. There are also more complicated systems that involve date, time and complex calculations, and are used for prediction. For those you would indeed want to go to an expert in the particular system of your choice.

Thousands of roads enter the great path of Tao. To find such a road means one found one’s Ding. Creating a masterpiece can be such a road, or religion, or a Koan, or even growing beans. But however small one’s Ding may be, it always contains the huge inner storage of spiritual richness.
It gives consecration to one’s life, making its size unimportant. And making it invulnerable for any attacks.
It will be a true life and it will earn a place in the annals of Heaven.
