I was once told that the universe does not recognise spiritual work unless there is some form of payment made.
It can be done many ways- be it a sincere thankyou or bartered items or money. They are all forms of payment.
I have always wanted to do spiritual work and am finally slowly coming out of the 'closet' and not worrying what my sceptical family think.
I am developing skills at the moment that I hope to one day be able to do face to face with people and will charge a fee of some kind.

How does one set a fair price?

A tarot card reader at a festival I went to recently set a price of $15 for a reading (which I thought was a fair price - she also works parttime) but others charge way more hefty prices ($100 or more).

I don't wish to offend anyone but have been curious about this for a long time.

But we all have bills to pay and someone can either work that into a profession to help people or not do it.

My friend does Reiki. She's very good at it, but because she's so afraid to take money for doing it, she keeps her day job and only does a few people when she can fit them in.

What a waste, all because people who think that because it's a gift, they shouldn't charge.

What a wonderful question Missy! I would be interested in hearing other's thoughts as well. I am a new Angel Reader and my philosophy on this has been that since I am new to work my way up. When I started doing them I started at $5 a reading after having done around 30 practice readings for others. This got my foot in the door and also allowed me to grow in self confidence in my abilities. As you gain more experience I would say raising your rates to a minimum of $15 or $20 would be appropriate which is where I am now.
Anyone else have thoughts or opinions on this?

I don't think it's fair you've used your limiting beliefs about money to chastise people who don't see it the same way.

That being said, this is all within reason. If your paying $800 for only half an hour or even an hour with one person - then you'd wanna bloody make sure it's worth it. Me personally - i don't care how good you are- $800 is going to feed my family for 2 weeks so they ( The psychic) can dream on lol.
No, I think we are all victims of modernism and a decaying society where the goal is to exploit each other's problems for a profit. We have all been conditioned from birth to accept the notion that we must trade our time and labor for the major part of our lives for this thing called money. There are many elements society that have made businesses of taking advantage of other people's miseries for self serving incentives and profits and those that can't pay don't get any help, usually no matter how dire their needs and circumstances are.

I've seen and read about enough atrocities and destruction done for monetary incentive, and it is my firm belief that money too easily corrupts and distracts, and is wholly unnecessary. There is a better way to have a society, it has been long documented the shortcomings of the monetary incentive and it's soon time for this society to move on to a better societal economic paradigm, or we will destroy ourselves and the earth in the name of PROFIT.

Oil companies take advantage of oil deposits and in the process destroy the surrounding environment for this crap called money. Food companies put chemicals in our food that make them taste better, look better and so they last longer, this is done for a profit, but in turn these chemicals cause cancer and all sorts of diseases and disorders, but they won't stop using them because it will hurt their profits! Then in turn, the medical industry further exploits people's sufferings probably caused by the crap they eat by selling treatments, but those that can't pay are allowed to just die because it's not profitable to treat them. Then furthermore, someone who may have been so heavily victimized or traumatized by their environment they may seek out a spiritual healer or someone of the likes for help, who in turn still further exploits their problem for a profit.

It has long been curious to me seeing self professed spiritualists goody-good new agers all over the internet engaging in this same self serving behavior of exploiting other peoples problems and concerns for a PROFIT. I would expect this from some big greedy corporation or some other mundane industry, they do this all the time, but when someone goes around claiming to be some spiritual guru who has all this knowledge and wisdom who wants to help people, the game changes. But somehow they have justified and we have accepted that it's OK to run up an enormous bill for some "help".

Hold on a minute, I thought the claim here was that these are people that are significantly more spiritually and consciously aware than the rest of the population. How is it they don't understand the un-importance of money, and try to justify charging enormous prices for help? Isn't that the same behavior that the spiritually unaware mundane majority of our society does? Why then are the "spiritually aware" doing this too? I thought they were spiritually conscious and aware! But even they trade their professed spirituality for an outrageously overpriced mundane incentive (money), more-so than I bet their supposed spiritually ignorant counterpart would charge in the same instance. This is a very interesting and curious contradiction in principle.

A psychologist, most of whom don't claim to be big time spiritual types, would charge somewhere between $100-$200 an hour for similar services such as advice and emotional healing, but online you will see hoardes of self professed positively oriented spiritualists charging several hundreds for a meager amount of time to give you advice and such. They claim to be all into this spiritually aware conscious hype, which is the polar opposite of physicality and materialism, but it appears that they have fallen even worse into the trap of materialism and wealth that is currently hypnotizing billions on our planet today who can't see past the acquisition of money and material wealth, destroying the planet in the process of endless cyclical consumption. Yes, again, an interesting contradiction in principle.

And I know I'm coming off as somewhat harsh and perhaps to some even a bit judgmental, and perhaps the sentiments contained in this post are not popular yet, but I'll stand as the lone wolf and be candid and outspoken about it, that being, a person should not trade acts of kindness for a self-serving incentive, especially if that person is claiming to be the spiritually aware guru type.
