This is kind of obscure I guess, but I'm using the post as a way to face a fear. I was raised as a non-denominational evangelical Christian and probably held strong commitment to that until about 20 years old...9 years ago. I dismissed all religion for a while and held the belief that we are of dust, and return to dust. Now, I'm very open to LoA, and I am on hot pursuit of the God as seen by Einstein, and other Physicist. I consider God/Us a united conscience, and my ideas of reality fall in line with Subjective Reality. For some reason though, when I explore the Psychic implications, or start getting introductions to Spirit Guides, noticeable effects of fear seize up within my body. I'm terrified of it, and think it has something to do with the Christian concept of Spiritual warfare. Particularly a battle with demons. If I have a team of spirit guides, I want to know everything they have to share! But I'm terrified of the idea of reaching out to anything. Stronger than that fear though, I'm annoyed that there is something in my life that shackles me with fear. Has anyone experienced similar resistance, and overcoming that? R/ Chad. |

Yes! I definitely share the same fear although for different reasons. When I am meditating and can sense things happening I immediately pull back, and have been reluctant to reach out to spirit guides. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one since a lot of people on this forum seem to have it together |

Just read this after following an intuitive prompt to search. Really helped, although the Astral post scared the crap out of me ;p How to Overcome a Fear of the Spirit World As I'm starting to take it though, through my Christian years, I was always obsessed with trying to "hear" God, and then you start maturing into realizing that it's intuition. So as a Christian might call it receiving guidance from the Holy Spirit, an Empath might call it receiving guidance from a spirit guide. Unifying these common beliefs is starting to help me. The more I learn, the more I realize that every religion has been talking about very similar things...just different names. But yes, I'm glad to hear that you share the same hesitance as me! |

I can understand your fear and it sounds like you have not totally accepted the fact that you have Spirit Guides there to help you and are still skeptical. I think once you do accept most of this fear will go away. However, you should also remember our guides are not here to hurt us but to help us in any way they can unless it is part of your plan to go through something on your own. They are gentle creatures who only want to help. I see mine on a daily basis as well as my best friend's. I have found that both her and my guides work together like a family to be sure we are protected and their messages are given correctly and interperted. Once you meet them you will love feeling their presence as it is like you are in their light and love always. |

Hi Principessa, You're right, I have not fully accepted that they are there yet. I want to very much, but it still sounds very "Charmed" to me. Did you discover yours through a psychic, or on your own? |

yeah, reaching out scares me too. i grew up in a religious home (presbytarian), and i think that and the idea of spiritual warfare, which my father is into, has made me afraid. i have also had some very disconcerting experiences too, but i cant help but wonder if my fear is what brought those to me. i'd say i am also in the same boat as you in the still skeptical department. there is definitely a part of me that just wants to say all of this stuff is bunk, but the rest of me cant deny what i have personally experenced.

Philosophy was an acceptable alternative for me. However, when I start re-reading what's left today, quoted by Jesus, and I read them from a different perspective, it help. But there are still glaring holes in that, probably due to the fact that the current cannon is biased toward a certain angle. Anyway, I'm glad you identify with that. I am pretty confident now, after the last two responses, that my fear of reaching out to spirit guides stems in the spiritual warfare indoctrination of old, and that's unfortunate because, like you say, it's probably mainly just the fear itself that is drawing the negative or eerie experiences. Thanks!

Bonadea is right, your guides have been with you most of your life. I discovered mine on my own. She actually warned me of imminent danger one night and appeared and woke me up but I did not realize who she was for a few years after that. It was only as I began divulging in what I could really do and trying that I discovered her. Think of them as an old friend that you cannot see but that you can hear. Some people can see them but that is not one of my gifts. I understand the fear, I was raised Catholic for twenty years and it took ten more before I was able to break away from that so that I could consciously realize what everything around me was trying to tell me. Stop and listen to the wind sometimes, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, you just may be surprised by what you see or hear.

Maybe I'll start talking out loud to my "Intuition" to ease into calling it/them other names

| It's not scary! If you feel scared its not your spirit guide. Your guide will infuse you with love and light. If your intuition gets you scared or with a bad feeling it is NOT your Spirit Guide. Your Spirit Guide's job is to help you the best you can to learn the pre determined lessons you wanted to learn and to help steer you down the right path. They will help you prepare for the harder stuff your soul must endure, they should be one of your best friends. |

Chad, what it sounds like to me is that you took all "supernatural" entities (as you understood them) and put them in a locked room in your mind somewhere (rather than actually dealing with all these beliefs). Now you're faced with an idea that you know will force you to open that locked door and sort it all out, and it scares you to consider it. It's like Pandora's box, isn't it? Well, I don't blame you for being scared, but I can tell you from experience that it is well worth the time and effort to sort through ALL that stuff, even if it takes a while to do it. The fear absolutely WILL vanish, and permanently, once you've put the ghosts to rest, so to speak. I sympathise with you, Been there, done that. But I highly recommend just doing the work and getting through it all rather than keeping stuff locked away. It always comes back to haunt you if you don't deal with it... |

If it's any consolation, you are going to be one of them in 50-100 years.. lol I think what get's most people is the fear of the loss of privacy or personal space. All of a sudden these things could be anywhere. The only thing to do is keep progressing onwards till you are confident enough to sense when anything is near you or in the same room. That way at least you will have some kind of conscious idea when you're not alone... haha But more importantly, getting to know the Archangels was the best decision I ever made in my life. As much as I have tried to think otherwise during some really heavy relapse periods, they have been the single most positive influence in my life that has got me through the last year of volatility. To me it kind of feels like I have this piece of knowledge, and I'm trying to share that knowledge with as many people as possible, however so many people just seem to be drawing blanks from lack of commitment. When you feel comfortable with having Angels around, they will come. As long as you don't want to see them, they won't bother turning up. |

Sorry to say this, but fundamentalist Christians take all of the fun adn joy out of religion. Spirit guides are not the same as demons. They are there to help you. Think guardian angel. They are spirit guides. In Native American spirituality they have spirit guides and don't call them angels but they are essentially the same things. They are there to help you. There are a lot of books on the topic for you to explore and realize that you must become positive and consciouss and the negative will not affect you. perhaps you should get a Michael reading. Michael channeling? There is a good book called The Journey of Your Soul By Shepherd Hoodwin.

Christians are taught that spirits out of the ordinary are deceptive spirits, and by nature if the promise is alluring or tempting, it's probably "wrong." Telling that Christian he's wrong because his ideas are no fun will only verify his suspicion and trigger alarms and resistance, telling him that he should channel anything will certainly drive him farther back into his sheltered hole. In any case, there is not much joy in any dogmatic religion. I agree with your point and understand it. I encourage you, though, to accept that there is a large base of people who were brought up into an aversion of things spiritual, and that more sensitivity to their reality will go a long way in carrying your own suggestions to them, thus contributing to their growth rather than regression. At a minimum, validate it.
