This question just popped into my head. Do people experience karma for their actions in their current lifetime or is karma reserved for future lifetimes only? I always read about karma coming from past lives but never really hear about it for current lives.

When i was a kid in my neighbour hood there lived a young women who was a real miser, she would never help anyone out, wouldn't give to charity she thought she was better than anyone else just because she had a fair amount of money anyway one night there was a bad storm and her house was struck by lightning i dont know exactly how but her house ended up being burnt to the ground the next week she had to declare herself bankrupt, she ended up bankcrupt i think all this happened because of karma which i believe in, in fact my next door neighbour has been spreading lies about me i dont speak to her about this i just smile to myself and think she will be got by karma sooner or later. | |

Judging mathematically, where someone is right now is an effect both from previous lifetimes and present life-time actions. As karma is a natural law of cause and effect, every action would cause a reaction, thus many of the traits in this lifetime are programs/belief systems that have been build up through many lifetimes as part of evolution.

I tend to think of it as nothing more than a calm sea, and each action causes a ripple. Due to the reality of duality in all things, on the other side of this "sea" a counter ripple is produced. Karma, as it is termed, is witnessed when the counter ripple collides with the original ripple. In essence, you get what you put in. Throw in a pebble, the same size ripples come from the other side. Throw a mountain in, and a tidal wave comes your way. The hidden truth is that you are neither on this side or that, you are the epicenter for the ripples and their collision. Just watch life, and pay attention. You'll see it. This world is multifaceted. After death who knows what karma does, but it happens on all levels of being. |

Yes, you get the consequences of your actions in this lifetime. If you kill your neighbor, their family is going to want to kill you. It's that simple. It also works for more subtle events. Your actions have an impact on your energy field and your karmic relationships and this alters what you attract into your life. Thus, you often attract circumstances based on your karma from totally unrelated people. What these people think of you is one thing. The karmic relationships you carry in your energy field is another thing. Both have an important impact in your daily life. |

If we look at karma as our own internal conflict, it becomes easier to understand. If we have conflict, we will attract people and circumstances to us to resolve it - doesn't matter whether it's in our current life or others. If we can clear up all our conflict now in this life, we would become enlightened. Say you have a lifetime in the 1500's and your village is attacked. You repel the invading army by killing them, and you and your fellow villagers save your families. If you have no internal conflict about what you have done, then there is no karma, meaning there is no need to balance anything out. It sounds strange but it's true. If we felt horrible guilt from killing those people, we would then either work out that guilt with those same individuals in another lifetime, or we would choose some circumstances to work out our conflict (i.e. helping children who have been injured in war by land mines, counseling war vets, working with perpetrators, etc). Which lifetime something happens in, and which lifetime we clear the conflict doesn't really matter, except to that particular individual. There is no good/bad, right/wrong. There is what we experience and the clarity or conflict we have. Based on our clarity or conflict, we will perceive life in a certain way, and we will attract things to us based on our perspective. And sometimes accidents can happen - we can simply be at the wrong place at the wrong time. |
