Default Silver Cord

Has anyone heard of having a silver cord attached to you during AP/dreams/other experiences? Does it really mean something?

Here's the thing...
I have had some experiences. I am not comfortable yet sharing these publicly as I get emotional at the thought, and not sure if I can handle all the feedback at this time.
But, my mom knows about most of them. She spoke with a woman who reads tarot cards. I am unsure whether she has any real psychic ability. Anyway, she got on the subject somehow and this woman suggested to her that when I am having these experiences, that I should look behind me and check for some kind of silver cord. She said it means that you are in control of the situation.

I just want to know where she got that idea from and whether I should bother with this advice? I have never heard of it as far as I can recall.

I wouldn't bother with that advice my friend - i don't think the tarot reader knows what she's talking about.

You can go for hundreds and hundreds of OBE's and perhaps not even see a silver cord.

Thomas Campbell, expert on OBE, explains that the silver cord, even though we see it, is a metaphor, so that our mind can conceptualise and understand what's going on. In fact he thinks a lot of things in the Astral a metaphors which appear the way they do so that our minds can grasp some meaning from it.

If i knew more about your situation, i could possibly help further, but with the information you've given, i would just say, don't bother with that advice.

There is some info on the silver cord . Some call it aka , or something close to that. It is thought to keep one conected to the body during a.p. Some think if you cut or lose the cord you cant get back to the body . a few say they travel with out the cord. desert rat

Well, I've had many nice but weird flying dreams (sometimes several times a week, sometimes months without any) where I'm flying above the ground, either close to my home or leaving it completely. Often times I'm flying through strange landscapes and cities like other worlds with strange people and creatures. Once I flew into space with incredible speed, leaving Earth behind until it looked like a tiny tiny dot and it went so fast with planets and stars rushing by and a loud constant roaring sound in my ears but I was stopped by a voice telling me: "not yet" and when I looked back I saw a bright shiny silver cord stretching from my solar plexus area down toward Earth and then I went back and woke up. That's the only time I've ever seen the silver cord. Not sure what it means, but I like these dreams, regardless. And I remember each dream with fanastic clearity and detail, then again, I almost always remember my dreams upon wakening regardless of the character of the dream, as my dreams are generally very lucid. One funny thing though is that the only time I don't seem to remember anything (as far as I remember lol) from a dream upon wakening is when I ask for God, the archangels, angels, masters and spirit guides to come visit me in my dream during the night and tell me stuff and teach me stuff...it's ironic lol.

But I have to tell you though, that most of these dreams are really hard work because when I wake up I often feel like I haven't slept and rested at all.

Last night I visited a strange world and city, it was dark and decaying and dying with empty abandoned buildings and skyscrapes, the sky looked weird, grey and red clouds, as if it's been hit by something it could not surivive. It was sad, and the people was so poor and plauged by a strange "disease" that scared everyone (me included at first) into hiding. I was assigned to this family, obviously trying to help them along like a family member would. They were so sad, because their young and only son had disappeared and they looked for him everywhere around the city. When we finally found him, he was plauged by this strange "disease" that had taken so many. It was not deadly, but it changed them into something else. When he walked up to us, the others wanted to flee in terror but I wasn't scared so we stayed put. He looked at me and it's very hard to describe what he looked like, it looked like the skin of his face was draped (in a see-through fashion) over another being altogether. When I looked at him I saw two faces at the same time, sort of out of phase with each other almost like when you stare at a 3D card from different angles. It was weird flashing lights from under and through his skin and he was dressed in a black cloak. When he spoke it wasn't human speech but different high pitched tones and clicks, sometimes painfully screetching sounds and when I didn't understand him, he slowly turned and walked off. Then I woke up. A typical dream for me. I like my dreams.

hi! I've had quite a few OBE and Astral Projection experiences and I've never seen the silver cord during any of them.

I DID see a silver cord once during a lucid dream, though. At least I think it was a dream. It was really weird, though, because the cord was linked into the sky instead of into the ground and some other flying chic was trying to saw in half with a butter knife. LOL. I was like, GO GET YOUR OWN CORD, LADY!!!

I'm not sure where the whole silver cord theory got started or if it appears for some and not others, but I don't think it's necessary and I don't think it gives any kind of protection. Honestly, I think it probably appears more for people who have read or heard it's supposed to be there or perhaps it's created by the mind to give comfort and reassurance of the fact that you will find your body and return to it.

Don't worry...silver cord or not, you'll get back in.

Thank you for posting this! It's very helpful actually and brought something to my attention. In the second link one of the posters states she's never seen hers, but then again she's never looked for it.

That could be the case with a lot of people who don't see theirs. Perhaps you have to look for it or are so distracted by the happenings around you that you don't worry too much about the silver cord when it's actually happening.

There obviousy has to be SOMETHING that keeps us attached to our physical bodies...some kind of energy signature, etc., or else we'd be popping in and out of all kinds of different bodies every night. Maybe some people are so attuned to being able to see energies that they can see this connection between the astral and physical bodies. I dunno, just a thought.

Then again, in one article it states that beginners claim to see the cord more often than experienced travelers. Maybe you're just more experienced than you realize and are comfortable enough traveling that you have no need to have an actual visible cord to reassure you.

I have never seen or looked for one, so I don't really know. I also am unsure whether I would call my experiences AP or not. Maybe a few of them.

Thanks for finding that information. This is really what I was looking for, though I still think that she was just wanting to contribute without really understanding. I was curious whether it might be relevant in my case.

The lady seems nice enough, but I do not think she is psychic. I met her because she owns a shop that sells tarot and other paranormal related stuff. I have a book that I wanted to sell. It's a first edition, kinda old, and it's about occult/magic/whatever kind of things. It's worth something to someone, but I don't need it. Being in such a rural area though, it did not sell in her shop. My mom went to pick it up for me and that is how they got to talking I guess. I was a little annoyed to find out that she let a friend borrow the book to read it at some point. Oh well.

Thank you all for sharing, it was very helpful

I think most any one could buy a tarot deck and a book on using them with out being psychic , and do ok. On the silver cord , all I can remember are flying dreams , and I never have looked for any kind of cord. desert rat

I have been out of body many times, and not once -not ever- did I see any "silver cord".
It's just a turn of phrase to mean connection to the physical body (which is only cut at death)
It comes from Ecclesiastes 12:6
"Remember him--before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well"

A good way to know if you are in control or not on the Astral is can you do exactly what you wish to do there? Or do you end up being taken this way and that? For instance if you wish to go downstairs and look at your downstairs room, do you suddenly end up in a dream like scenario out in the street instead, watching people walk their tigers on leashes?
(no kidding)

I wouldn't worry about the silver cord. Maybe the Tarot reader meant if you are capable of real focus on the Astral, (such as concentrating on looking for your "silver cord") then it does show some control....?

This is reassuring for those of us who have never seen a silver cord during AP. LOL. I was getting a little worried there for a while after reading that stuff on the internet.

If I have experienced AP, it has not been intentional. So, I never know when an experience will occur. I will try to pay attention if I can remember to look in that state, but I do not feel like it is super important whether I see a cord or not.

I find your shared experiences very interesting, but it's been difficult to find others with stories similar to mine. Feels a bit lonely at times, but I know that I cannot be really alone. Always happy to learn more wherever I can

What are your experiences? You might be surprised to find people with like experiences around here, but it might be we all have different places to go in the astral.

Started being "visited" by beings as a child up until present time. I'm 27 now. My family witnessed multiple small ufos, super close-up, in my early teens. At the time we lived right next door to indian burial mounds. We had neighbors with similar experiences, but when I say neighbors... we could not actually see anyone's home from ours. Very rural area. We never thought of the light orbs as ufos at the time. We thought they were spirits or angels. I now believe that they are all one in the same.

I had a more traditional, very large ufo sighting in 2005 that slowly helped me put a few pieces together.

Still visited by beings here and there. Some have looked very human, others have been so strange I cannot find anyone who's seen the same things. These have all been very real and physical experiences.

I also have strange dreams that feel very real. They generally involve being inside of ufo's or communicating with other beings. I cannot say 100% that I am not just dreaming about them, but it feels different to me. I think it may be AP, but am open to whatever. I also have many dreams that feel more like regular dreams, but there's always a huge number of ufos coming to rescue a certain group of people on earth. I have a feeling of pure joy/love/excitement when I have these dreams. Makes me a little sad to wake up. Strange though, because most physical experiences I've had were terrifying for me with the exception of one.

That is my very breif summary of events. Would take awhile to give all the deets, and there are a few experiences that are just too personal to share but I think I have some understanding of those on my own.

I have seen my silver cord when AP and it was attached to my navel. Very calming experience. Felt like I understood how we're all connected. But anyways...

What I think the tarot reader meant is that visualizing you silver cord can be very grounding, and that is exactly what you need in a "out of control" situation. I do that very often before AP or meditation. I visualize a silver cord going down to the center of the earth wrapped around a crystal in the bottom. Wouldn't hurt to try it out.

So don't look after your cord, visualize it and feel the grounding sensation
