Really??? This happens to me quite frequently; more since I've lost my natural hearing. But I've always chalked it up to coincidence coupled with my desire to hear music like I did before the cochlear implant. I suppose I'll have to start a journal to keep track of it.

Erin,
How do you develop this? It doesn't seem like a "mental muscle" that you can exercise through use? It comes when it wants to. Or is just being hyperaware of it enough to turn up the volume, so to speak?

Is it normal to be in the woods and hear branches falling?

Is it normal to be in the woods, hear branches falling all around you, right next to you, incessantly, and yet there is no wind, and yet the forest is deathly still? Is it normal that all of this happened, and yet I did not see a SINGLE branch move? Is it normal that this only happened in ONE part of the woods?

If not, then yes, I had a paranormal experience last night. Supposedly the park is haunted, and most of the group I was with claimed to have seen and felt spirits there, but I can only hear them.

Default Not yet, at least that I can remember

I was brought up in a definitely no-nonesense family though, so it's only recently that I've even begun to consider that this might be a possibility. I have had some crazy crazy coincidences though.

Default I don't know if this counts.. but

At sixteen I woke up in the middle of the night and a male voice, leaning right down into my ear said: "Her Husband." I know it doesn't make much sense.

Then, twice in my life while I've been crying and near hysterical, I've had 'visitations'... the first time I was despairing over my poverty - single mother, no job prospects, etc and I was crying. A voice said "Turn away from your God. He doesn't care about you." I hadn't been praying or thinking of God at all. But I started right after that voice said that!

The second incidence was during another "woe is me" fit. I was feeling very poorly and said aloud, "I know the devil is trying to get me again." And it was like the wind was sucked out of the room - the blackness cleared and I was well.

I do suffer from depression and cannot take meds for it, so this is a probable cause (for the despair, at least) Often when in the depths of the disease I have strong urges to do harm to myself although I never have. Usually I want to put my head through a window - I was at that point when I called out the devil, so to speak, and I couldn't believe the immediate end my suffering came to at that moment.

It was incredibly powerful for me and has left me certain that evil is real, and that it does have an agenda.

My old house that I lived in from ages 2 to 18 was haunted, and I had heaps of ghostly experiences: sitting on the computer with no-one around and hearing breathing, laying in bed when everyone else is in bed and hearing someone move around in the kitchen, laying in bed and hearing someone move around in my room (again, everyone's gone to bed), waking up and seeing what I've described before as a "solid shadow" in the shape of a person stand there for a while THEN INSTANTLY BEND IN HALF TWICE (like bending down so your legs and upper body are at right angles, except without all the movement involved - just upright then instantly perpendicular, then instantly upright and instantly perpendicular again), waking up to the sound of this dodgy computer I made out of cardboard boxes being ripped up right next to my ear, etc etc. All of which freaked me out, even though I know now that a disembodied person is really nothing to be scared of (any more than an embodied person is something to be scared of!) However it has left a pretty big imprint on me. I've moved house 5 times since then (the result of parents splitting up and me continuing to live with both of them) and each time I've been cautious about whether the new places would be haunted. None of them have been, hooray! Also, fear is represented in my dreams as "the ghost". Whenever I see a/the ghost in my dreams, I'm always overcome with terror, often to the point of my dream consciousness being altered and/or me waking up, though sometimes I face my fear and confront the ghost, sometimes even talk to it.

I've also had experiences with synchronicity, aren't they fun? I've had this girl I used to have a thing for on my mind recently and I've been wondering whether I should crack onto her again, and I've had song after song on the radio tell me to move on :P "hard to say it time to say it, good bye, good bye; the hardest part is letting go; Don't you think it's time, Time for moving on, Time for growing strong, Time to leave the past behind". I don't even particularly like Nickelback, Coldplay or Bob Evans! There's recently been a strong association with all this new age spiritual stuff (manifesting, "the power of the mind" etc) with the word "experiment".

The "paranormal" thing I've probably delved into the most is dreams. I wouldn't consider them paranormal at all really, but it's the closest thing to something that feels "mystical" or "magical" that I experience regularly, so I've really delved into dream interpretation in the past. Frustration at not being able to interpret many of my dreams, along with work or university starting again has led me to "drop out" of dream interpretation a few times, but I always come back to it, it's just too cool I'm still pretty much a beginner, and it's great fun when you come across a dream that is bleedingly obvious in its meaning, or when you can see themes and common symbols recurring across dreams.

I used to have dreams like that all the time, "Epics" I call them. They're awesome! Letsee, I've dreamt about civilisation collapsing (more than once), ET invasion (that was a good one, pillars of fire and mushroom clouds on the horizon!), world war three, tsunamis, the coming of a new ice age... I LOVE dreams like that! When I'm dreaming them they feel so deep and profound and awesome, then I wake up and I'm like "woah, cool"
