| Short Backstory: When I was between 15-17, the exact age I cannot recall I made a Papa Legba Doll. Now 22, as of the last year on and off I've paid more attention to Papa Legba. A while back a good spiritual friend of mine told me getting rid of the doll would be dis-respectful to the spirit... If you are not familiar with Papa Legba here is a site for more information on him: Papa Legba Shorter round about description: Papa Legba is (or close to) a Loa. Known in New Orleans Voodoo as an older black man with a straw hat, cane and keys he is a very powerful important spirit. He is the opener of opportunities, helps open blocks in your life, and is known to be the gatekeeper between our reality and spirits. Popular in Haiti Voodoo as well he is always the first Loa petitioned before contact can be made with other spirits or so the legend goes. He is also a trickster. Some followers say they have seen Papa Legba in human form, often coming from behind out of no where. It is also said when he feels forgotten, Papa Legba likes to "steal" or misplace your things as a reminder to honor him. It said he speaks every language and is a great communicator. So, often on Mondays Papa Legba's day the doll often stands out and I will give small, sometimes bigger offerings. Sometimes I'll forget but not Yesterday. I offered bigger then usual offerings, said some petitions. I really needed this spirits help. I just bought a car and was afraid after i dropped it off Monday night some expensive repairs would be coming my way. I don't know why i am drawn to this particular spirit but Papa Legba for some reason holds such fascination and respect from me. So I prayed for him to help the repairs not to be too expensive. I thought i needed new rotors, possibly break pads + labor it can get pretty expensive. I called the shop this afternoon(mind you a good shop where people rarely get their car the same day!) and to my surprise they could not find any break problems and told me i could come by to get my car! I was so happy the first thing that came to mind was Papa Legba. All I pleaded was a bill i could handle. I did not expect to not have any problem with my brakes at all. I felt so grateful in the moment. So afterwards I went shopping. I wanted to pick a couple offerings up for Papa Legba as a thank you and groceries. Now, i noticed something very peculiar on my shopping recite. Somehow me at 22 with not a gray in site got a senior discount! I personally think that was a sign that Papa Legba was with me. Now some serious Voodoo/Spirit religion followers have real hate for people like myself who are not initiated. They say Papa Legba will not help them because we are not "Initiated". I think if you show enough true respect, why wouldn't they help you? Its about the quality of your heart and spirit not if you follow this or that religion in my opinion. So as mentioned, when i give offerings to spirits when/how should i dispose of them? Some things are easy if a spirit for example likes coins tossed somewhere. But what about things like a cup of tea? Fruit, ect? Anyhoo I wanted to share something POSITIVE! I'd love some insight on the offering dilemma and if you have some true stories of spirits helping you, please share! |

I think if you understand a system like voodoo , and accept any consequences of your actions go ahead and use it. I dont remember it being discused on this forum before and is not something I rely know much about. This forum is open minded and voodoo is a major world religion . desert rat
