Numerology & The Life you were Born to Live

Is anyone else interested in numerology? I've dabbled with it for a few years now and am intrigued by it as a tool for ascertaining aspects of characteristics, abilities & inclinations.
I'll often note dates of birth during readings and use them to quickly see conflicts in family situations or special abilities, potential etc.
From what I've gleaned the day you are born indicates the essence of who you and your life path number has an over riding influence. I haven't officially studied numerology and tend to intuit when using numbers but Dan Millman's (author of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior) 'The Life You Were Born to Live' gives a really good guideline to working with them.

Oh I just wanted to say I'm adverse to pigeonholing anyone.
I use numerology to help people understand how/why we each respond to situations/life differently and have different needs. There are no absolutes. We are each uniquely different. Often having the oneself explained through the numbers can give you a sense of its ok to be me and enables you to let go of the expectations loaded on us from family and friends.

I used to be obsessed with astrology and numerology, because I was sure they had all the answers. This was also when I thought we had no control over our destiny. Although the description of my paths seemed to fit.

I see numerology more as a tool we can use to understand our strengths and challenges. It can help identify areas of our lives that need work to move us closer to our higher selves.

A tool, yes, but with me it had taken over my life in the worst sense. I saw it as the great answer to everything, not a tool. It seriously damaged my life for nearly a year.

Numerology damaged your life? You sure it wasn't, maybe, the decisions you made in light of numerology that caused you that pain? You say it took over your life, as if it had volition. I see you as someone who takes responsibility for your life. Was that not always so?

No, the obsession with thinking and studying and obsessing over numerology and astrology and tarot cards and psychics and (fill in every New Age thing here). I had not discovered LoA and thought that just one more numerology equation, one more tarot reading, one more astrological horoscope would fix my life. I belonged to a group of like-minded people whose lives were just so horrible, it was like a sickness how fixed we were on finding out when our lives would change (Oh, its a 1 day in a 5 month and a 9 year, etc).

That's when it went from tool to almost a deity

Thank you for highlighting the dangers of giving your personal power and free will away to something outside of yourself. Most of us seek guidance/clarification at some time in our lives but anything we are told, by anyone/anything outside of us only becomes our truth if we allow it. It is so important to discern and sense for ourselves our own truth by going within ourselves.
