Hi, I have discovered this forum today and read so many interesting discussions here! So, I felt encouraged to write my first post concerning the purpose of dreaming. Do you think dreams contain psychic messages or our minds are simply connecting dots of our daily realities and experiences (or both)? Also, some people appear to dream very little (or may be they just don't remember their dreams) while others dream often and vividly. Is this related to something? I personally dream vividly every night and I have no clue where my mind gets some of its content nor what it is trying to do... Thank you for your thoughts Last edited by SunnyVic; 02-02-2011 at 12:24 AM. |

I tend to dream a LOT. Most of them repeat, distill, and exaggerate all my fears, insecurities, personality traits, and behavior patterns, which means to say, they are just like my real life, only more so. They SEEM to offer no solutions or hints. I don't know what "lessons" they are trying to teach me, if any. I DO enjoy all the experiences within them, although the bad emotional ones seem to cause a "hangover". I have so much content, I restrict my dream journal to writing down ONLY the major themes, activities, and characters that occur. During waking state, my mind (just like other people's) tends to obsess, repeat, and be filled with a lot of nonsense: is there any purpose for my waking mind to do this ? Maybe the brain/mind just "needs" to be busy. Meditation tends to provide more quiet space, and when I DO meditate, often I will have EXTREMELY intense emotional dreams that night. In the past I HAVE had sporadic otherworldly dreams that showed some meaning.

Welcome to the forum. I think most dreams are just the mind at play . A few dreams may contain some meaning. We all go out of body during certin parts of sleep and remember it only as a dream. Some think flying dreams ,and that jolt we sometimes feel when waking up are from going out of body. Some people meat pased on loved ones in dreams , this may be out of body travel , and we do see our real loved ones. A few people have gone with out sleep for many days and start to hallucinate . desert rat

Dreams do both functions which are to give psychic messages and to provide a way to respond to the same, as well as to connect the dots of our daily experiences. In regards to dreaming very little or not dreaming at all. There is a subtle counterpart to the physical system. However, the person’s conscious mind may not be synchronizing with recall capacity on the subtle side and so their experiences there are just as if there were no experiences there. If something happens and you have no objective contact with it, for you it does not exist. By convention we are physically focused and our minds usually avoid what is psychic and so that means that we are programmed not to have recall of the psychic side of life. Those who dream vividly are programmed to have recall on the psychic side, so they remember the psychic occurrences and dream experiences while others have those experiences but have no recall of it. If you take up a meditation practice you will develop the ability of coherence in the dream world. You will be able to make sense of it and to see how to correlates to what you do physically. Understating dream experience is a useful tool in gaining more proficiency in navigating even ordinary social relationships on the physical plane. |

Thank you all for your thoughts... Old dead wood, I do relate to your experience. Often my dreams are just a puzzle of my daily activities and experiences. I find this type of dreams to be most draining and when I wake up I feel that after a busy night I need some good sleep! Sometimes my dreams appear to be visited by some strange fantastic beings, some human like, others animal like. They are never very talkative I can just feel their energy. I thought it would be interesting to draw them! Desertrat, I find very interesting what you said about going out of body during certain parts of our dreams. When I think about it now, in my dreams I often feel like walking on air over the tops of trees and houses. Thank you, MiBeloved, for suggesting meditation idea. I actually wonder now how it could affect my dreams. |

I dream vividly every night too! In the morning my mom is always ready to ask me 'what crazy dream did you get this time?" I like writing my dreams down simply because I have this crazy idea one day I can write a book out of them lol. If I saw anything really unusual I would definitely draw it too. Sometimes I find meanings in them where I can connect some ideas and go "ok, this makes sense. maybe i should be more so and so towards that person..." and I can literally learn from my dreams. Other times I wake up and it's like "Wow. No idea where that came from." So in general I think the messages we get really depends on the person percieving them. Maybe we aren't getting any mesages at all and we are just percieving them as messages. Kind of like how you can make more meaning of a song even if it was written with no meaning in mind. |
