Default Out of Body Experience

A couple nights ago I had a dream about a little girl I know whose father recently died. I was embracing and consoling her as she looked sad.

Suddenly she smiled and pointed upwards to the ceiling saying '...but he's right up there...'. At this point I was back in my bed where I realized that her father was laying in the bed next to me. I went lucid and felt sleep paralysis and panicked, after which I woke up with a sense of relief.

I closed my eyes to go back to sleep and realized that I was seeing something through some sort of portal-like opening. (it was familiar because I've seen a portal of clouds/sky during past meditation) I was seeing my darkened bedroom from the ceiling with a sensation of hovering and moving slowly towards the bed. What struck me most was how sharp and clear everything was, because I wear glasses IRL. The room had a tinted, sharp quality to it.

Although I saw a form in the bed, I didn't want to see myself laying there and opened my eyes again. My heart was racing, I was a bit nervous and after about 1/2 hour I eventually let myself go back to sleep.

The experience definitely gives me a new understanding of the phrase 'I am not the body, I am not the mind.'

Just sharing in case anyone has had a similar experience with third eye/pineal vision, and wants to chat about it.

cool, something similar happened to me a couple of years ago. But I didnt know neither lucid dreaming or out of body experiences then. I dont know how it happened exactly but I remember I saw myself sleeping in my bed, and I desperately wanted to wake up and walked around to all the mirrors saying "this is a dream this is a dream" hoping I would wake up. It was really frightening, but I still dont really know if it was an out of body experience or a dream. I think it almost happened this summer too, I woke up in the night and got the tingling feeling in my whole body, and fought the sensation that I was leaving my body, but I really had to fight it for it not to happen. But it is cool to experience that there is something beside the body.

Hey nube, I've also had dreams where I felt myself leaving my body, felt like I was being sucked out of my body and heard that freight train sound. This was the first time I was not dreaming and actually awake. I was a bit freaked at the time but now I feel kind of comforted by the experience in a strange way.

ok. interesting. did you work on learning lucid dreaming or out of body techniques? I still think it is a bit scary so I am not sure whether I want to get into it, but it seems really interesting, and as you say, comforting. Interesting how we can have these dreams to before we actually experience it.

Several months ago a friend of mine wanted to start an astral projection group and lent me loads of books about the subject. (I actually still have the books at home.)

I read pieces of a Robert Monroe book, and I think that's about it. I probably did about one practice session but rote practice with this kind of stuff doesn't resonate with me. It feels forced and unnatural to me.

I've found that whatever you want to call this process I'm going through is happening all by itself.
