Around my area, there are a fair few cats roaming about. You'll see the usual suspects passing through the gardens year after year and prowling through the streets on a frequent basis, but there was one cat that stood out to me from the rest. One day, I looked out my window and saw this unfamiliar cat sleeping in the garden. It would sleep there for hours and hours and would eventually disappear. I'd wake up the next day and there it was again, sleeping in the garden. It’s appearance came not too far from my mother's birthday, right when I decided I wanted a cat and during one of the occasions when I could really do with a friend in general. Then, this cat wanted in. Every single day, this cat would sit outside the back door, peering through the unclear glass and it would sit there from morning until night, until it would disappear once again. It got in the house a few times (well, I couldn’t say no) and it would be its typical cat-self and curiously look about until I’d have to lead it back out. Other cats appeared to quite like this cat and would hover around it and eventually I did the same thing. Surely prolonging its stay, I'd head out, sit with it and feed it some treats here and there. It liked to stick around, no matter what the weather and if the back door was opened, it would again make an attempt to get in the house, but it seemed to listen to my mother. It always wanted in, but it'd lounge about outside and forget trying to get in, sometimes resting on its back, so long as my mother was sitting outside. Funnily enough, the cat reminded my mom of the cat she and her bros/sisters had as a child. The cat looked like a bit of an older cat and somewhat roughed up, but it was very calm. We got the impression it was owned by somebody but perhaps became stray or wasn't cared for as well as it once could have been. Maybe it was indeed getting old and was mistaking our home for its own. We figured it was probably trying to make our home its new home. It’s known that cats have a way of adopting families, rather than the other way around. Anyway, this cat came each day for months as if it were our own pet until eventually came another birthday (my sister's birthday). It came to sit by us during that birthday, lounging with us and then it vanished as always, only this time it never came back. Many months have passed, the usual suspects continue to wander by, but this cat has never returned. I actually hope it’s ok, because I have no idea. Another funny thing, though, is that I felt a bit better in myself that very day before it left. I had sat outside with it each day for a long period of time and I did feel like I received that friend I needed, even if in a cat and not a person. It came when I needed it and then left when the job was done. After that, I was dreaming of the cat every single night. I remember having many dreams of it where I’d try to talk to it or pet it and it would speak to me, telling me to basically get on, let it go, get off, leave it, etc. Was it old and has it passed on? Maybe. Maybe it was a stray and was just plotting with us for a little while, but there was still this odd feeling there, despite our general assumptions. Well, there is one more birthday coming up soon and that is my own. I'm not saying this is definitely something more than just a cat roaming about, but I will say it for sure if it suddenly returns again for my birthday. Still, I'm not expecting it to happen, but that’d certainly be a shock if it did. ‘twas a cool cat. Last edited by Midwinter Mist; 11-28-2010 at 03:07 AM. |

Awesome story, I can relate. All our family's cats were strays or Dumb Friends League kitties. Every single one of them was a gem. My own kitty was adopted as well. Here are a few feline documentaries for you that always make me smile.... Simon's Cat YouTube - Simon's Cat in 'The Box' An Engineer's Guide to Cats YouTube - An Engineer's Guide to Cats |

I remember doing a reading on the thread on this part of the forum. I think it was you who was being read. I said: You love nature and you are kind of out doorsey. Also, there is something about a cat. I believe you said: Yes, the area around my moms house has trees, and there is a cat, but it hasn't been around for some time. Was this in fact you? Sorry, this is to satisfy my own curiosity and maybe there is a reason I remember |

Cool story. Cats can be very mysterious, whimsical creatures. There is evidence to believe that sometimes they sense things beyond our normal human realm.
