from my experiences with automatic writing i usually type mine up. im a touch typer so i don't need to worry much about looking at the screen. So when i do automatic type i don't watch the screen i look to the side. I also allow myself to go into a deeply relaxed state and focus my breath. Then i just write whatever it is i get and it sooner or later it will just flick over to authentic communication. |

Practice, practice, practice. I'm honing my skills and doing spirit guide readings and using AW as a means of getting information. I typically 'see' things and then write it all out. As I'm writing, more information seems to come to me. Good luck! |

I should probably type mine too, considering I write so fast when in auto-mode that the words come out all sloppy... Another method is to record your voice, if that works for you. I have an iPhone and use the microphone mode to record things that come up while I'm driving. Yeah, I know it's not a good idea to do this sort of thing while driving, but I zone out and it just flows. The driving seems to take care of itself. |

Good on you, namasteindia, for pursuing this. From my perspective, getting in touch with our guides is one of the most important things we can do while here. I'm a claircog. I'm not sure how automatic writing works for others, but for me, the actual movement of my arm is very subtle. It's not like you become possessed and something starts moving your arm against your will. It's barely noticeable and easily overlooked. You've been meditating. Are you familiar with kriyas? When I meditate, I have feelings of wanting to move in a certain way sometimes. Like, maybe lift my arms, to roll my head around a little, or to lean forward and stretch my back. It's not something external controlling my movements. It's more like, were I to decide that I wanted to move, this way would be the easiest. A more concrete, but greatly exaggerated example is a game children play: stand in a doorway and press your arms against the two inside walls as hard as you can for a few min - when you let go, your arms begin to rise, seemingly of their own volition. You are in control, though. They only raise if you let them, but if you do, they certainly do go by themselves. When I would let my guides guide the pen, the feeling is very similar. The feeling of the pen moving is much weaker and subtle, though. It's like, try moving the pen in 4 directions, up, down, left, and right. You can move it in any direction you choose, but it's slightly easier in one direction. That's the sort of hint you get initially. Be sure to hold the pen lightly. For me, they usually control from the wrist, though sometimes the fingers. Very rarely is it my whole forearm. Never put the weight of your arm on the pen, as that might be enough to keep it in one spot and they can't overcome it. Barely touch the page. Once your connection strengthens, they can move the pen for you a little more obviously, but still, only if you let them. You are always in control of your body. I remember the first time it moved by itself, it was a crazy day. Once I got going, I didn't really need them to do the writing. I usually know the next word, sentence, or sometimes just a letter to write. When I don't know the next thing to write, I'll pause and, for lack of a better term, give them my hand. I'll try moving it slightly in all 4 directions until one seems easier. From there, they start the next letter and I'm immediately back to knowing what to write next. I found that I can control what is written, even when it feels like I'm not the one doing the writing. I suppose it has to do with the way the mechanism works. They get your hand set up to write what is in your current thought, and then it becomes a sort of assembly line. They fill up your short term memory with a thought, your hand writes that thought, and it repeats. Usually, the current thought is what they send, so it all works. I can deliberately think of something else, though, and have it be what's written from our sort of joint-control of my arm. It's funny, being that I'm in control but letting them dictate, that I can get in and trick myself. Still, that's a very important thing to know, and it was my biggest stumbling block. Because you are playing an active role in receiving what they send, it's very easy to jump in and interject, often without realizing. You can block and take control of what is being written without meaning to, and it's very easy. Sometimes, I'll get myself off on my own tangent for 3 or 4 sentences, finally get back on track, and they'll go and cross out a few lines. The first trick there is keeping your mind blank. The main key to that is meditation. The second one is discernment. How can you tell what is a thought and what is a message? When I'm thinking, I'm thinking about what I'm thinking about, but I'm also thinking about the next things that come from it. I get ahead of myself in my self-chatter, but that's how I've always thought. When I'm keeping a clear mind and get a message, though, it's just the message. No jumping ahead. As crazy as it sounds, that's how i can tell the difference. Eventually you'll get to the point where you don't need to write anymore. You just know the next word. Once you're able to discern who is talking, be it you or them, you can just have conversations with them in your head. Now, the real crux of it all is discernment. You have your inner chatter, you have some messages from them, both of them vying for attention in your mind. How to learn what's which? For me, it was reams of writing. At first, the majority of it was nonsense. I wasn't being particularly safe or smart about my connection, so early on, were I to even connect to something, it probably wasn't my guides, so I got all sorts of randomness coming out, not to mention what my own mind was inserting most of the time. As I kept writing, I started being able to tell what was obviously from my thoughts and what might not be. Initially, it will all be your own thoughts. Eventually, most of the thoughts are yours and some of them are not. As you progress, you can change the ratio. Even with a lot of your own thoughts coming out, wisdom flows from these guys. You'll catch bits here and there that absolutely blow your mind. Remember those and how those make you feel, because that's the trick to learning to discern. Keep an empty mind and write everything down. Still, though, how to make the initial connection? That's probably the hardest part, though it's not the longest. You've been meditating, so you have half of the battle won. First off is a clear mind. That's what the meditation is for, so I won't get into that. There are two other parts - raising your vibration and fooooocuuus. Erin has blog entries on raising your vibration, and the internet is full of good ideas for it, so I won't go into that, either. Just know that you really need a high vibration to talk to high vibration beings. You can get through without being a buzzing heap of happy, but if you in a state of mind anywhere near or below neutral, you're going to have either a hard time, or worse, a bad time. Be happy, excited, grateful, and calm, and the going will be much easier. The focus part is all about visualization. Focusing intensely makes your connection stronger. It doesn't really matter what you focus on, but try to bring in as many senses as you can and go for very immersive visualization. Something that really gets your 3rd eye and crown firing works well for me. The exercise that finally got me connected was visualizing the feeling of writing single letters with a pencil on a piece of paper on a hard desk, the sound the pencil makes as it's being scratched along the paper, the smell of the paper and of the room, things like that. Once you can see individual letters, try combining them into words. Then try to see the words you've written. I never can, lol. Still, that popped open my chakras and got me my first connection. Since you're just starting out, I would also recommend the little bits of safeguarding Erin and others suggest. A small prayer, some intention, some visualization, some high powered chakras, those are all important. Also know that your guides can screen your calls. You have to ask them to do it, though, so be sure that you do. It's late and I've been rambling, lol, so I will now just say to keep at it and you'll get it, even if it's not the same way I got through it. |

That's awesome dhethic , thanks for typing all that out. Most certainly going to try this out now. It's nice to know that if it doesn't work the first time, to stay with it and it gets better.
