I know that over time I've noticed at least half a dozen people mention their Reiki practice, or attunements, and so on. Please 'check in' with this thread. I'd like to find out who else, besides me, is Reiki-attuned.

(No offense meant to others here at Pavlina who are practicing healers - in whatever way you've discovered, developed, or acquired your healing ability. I respect what each and all healers do.)

Here's my story (hope it won't be too long and boring)...

There are the aspects of life that we can feel & sense, and the aspects that we can't so much feel or sense. For many, many years I had continued to deal with the aftermath of problems in my childhood and adolescence. And I had unknowlingly put up emotional walls to defend myself. But this put a bit of a warp into my whole life - relationships, jobs, you name it!

Some years ago I broke my leg while in a steep forest area, and (while mending) I decided to take a course and an "attunement" in "Reiki". All I actually knew about it was that is had somthing to do with "healing energy." I thought I was doing the course for physical healing, but the attunement resulted in several other benefits: It immediately and unexpectedly acted to clear away a huge amount of those emotional traces that had remained since childhood and adolescence - the muddy, faint background of sadness, frustration, fear, and shame that I had never been able to completely remove.

After my attunement, both the old pain/fear and the walls I'd made just dissolved. My overall mood improved and I felt more confident under all circumstances. My sense of intimacy with nature (birds, dogs, horses) markedly increased. Song birds began to perch on my head when I meditated outside - and, also, about three times as many people as before acted like they really liked me. At times, small birds would land on my shoulder when I was standing around outdoors. I've really enjoyed that! Reiki seemed to have changed, for the better, nearly all the aspects of my life that I could feel or sense.

Among other odd things, my "sending" telepathy increased.

Now some people have wondered why my attunement had such dramatic results... I've wondered too. It may be because of the amount of earlier 'work' I'd done on myself: I'd learned and practiced daily meditation for many years, which gave me a quieting of mental chatter and a sense of refreshment whenever I practiced it (but did not remove the old impacted emotional stuff). I'd also tried a couple different kinds of psychological therapy, taken courses in interpersonal communication, I'd kept a dream journal.

Oh, as to other results of my attunement... I could also list quite a few physical benefits (including very much increased resistance to colds & flu)...

But then i was told i had very healing hands and i started playing a bit with energies and feeling etheric bodies...but not really knowing what i was doing. But sometimes people will go "oh do me!" when they do not believe one minute in it, but since you do not charge, let's waste your time. And bahm! huge energy wall there. I had it once with a lady... she asked me to do it cause "she was curious" i think but she put a energetic barrier up (because i think her many boo-boos define her and get her sympathy...not judging, just saying what i see). BUT sometimes, on very spiritual people, no matter how very far they live, i can feel the reiki flowing like crazy, see symbols or images for them, feel some of their symptoms etc... I try to go with my intuition before i offer help now. What do you think? I mean unless you charge money then i guess it does not make a difference but I'm free...so...

Well, I do not charge for Reiki sessions. Part of my reason is that I live in a semi-isolated place - a valley of 6000 people, living within an hour's drive of one another (from north to south). So offering Reiki formally isn't so easy. I just give sessions as a gesture of goodwill. But I can really understand what you're saying about closed-minded disbelievers figuring it's not worth anything, and thereby remaining closed to Reiki's effects.

I'll bet there are more good personal stories amongst us... If not about how we got attuned and how we falt as a result, then about some of the sessions we've given people.

It was my understanding and my experience with reiki that the beliefs of the recipient have no effect on whether the reiki will work or not. In my experience, it always works.

I did reiki on my mother, who believes in nothing beyond the worms in the dirt that are going to decompose her body after she dies. She doesn't believe in spirit or soul, let alone something invisible like reiki. Nonetheless, she reported feelings of floating and such like. She felt the reiki.

Isn't it counter-intuitive to think that there can be an energy wall blocking reiki energy? The very purpose and function of reiki is breaking through energy blocks.

If someone doesn't feel the reiki, imo that doesn't mean anything, except that they don't feel it.

I'm going to share some observations and speculations about "feeling Reiki," "believing in Reiki," and this sort of thing. We know that people are a composite of body, feelings, mind, soul, etc. Each person is unique.

Okay, I have come to feel that, because of the unique combination of characteristics in these various apsects of dimensions of our personal nature, some people respond more quickly or more deeply or more thoroughly to a Reiki session than others.

I've found that almost everybody gets a certain common, shared experience out of, say, an hour-long session - including relaxation, and a feeling for warmth spreading from the Reiki-ist's hands (if it's a hands-on session). If the person will lie down, lie still, and allow us to put our hands on their body from their head on down - it is extemely likely they will feel what I've mentioned (no matter what their beliefs are). A lot of people will feel "floaty" too.

But it seems to me that not everybody to whom we give a session is in the same zone of deep receptivity to the healing of ongoing or long-standing health issues.

And truly this lady sees many practitioner of all sort (doctors, physios, chiro, naturopath...) and yet it seems like nothing improves (back pains, legs pains, whatever is the pain of the day). So in this case i don't see how she can be receptive as i said she seems to cling to the "booboos .

With some people, I don't think they have intentionally put up an energetic barrier... it's more that their whole body/mind set-up (their internal reality) seems to be in a condition where they can't make use of a healing session given to them.

With some people, they do respond better to an in-person, hands-on session than to a distance session. (My opinion.)

I've met people who really on the conscious level do not wish to continue to define themselves in terms of their problems - but they seem stuck with these problems... almost a deep habit of their inner being.

I'm attuned as a Reiki Master - received my Master attunment in January 2010 but I have not taught or attuned others as of yet. My purpose with the Reiki for the last five years has simply been to share with family and friends, animals and nature. Every once in a while I dream of a Reiki/Intuitive Energy Work practice but the reality of my financial situation is that my accounting business is the ticket to paying the bills and the Reiki is my pleasure! I've worked with friends in ICU, hospice, airports before the flight, sitting in the garden, you name it and always without a doubt it is the most rewarding activity I have ever participated in! There is just nothing like the feel of loving energy flowing through and around yourself and those you are connecting with whether it be long distance or a foot apart!

Ah, well, if nothing works for her, that's different. It's not quite the same as the context I was thinking. I bet it does work, though, but she just puts it back the way it was. I can't imagine a scenario where I would say reiki isn't doing something. I simply don't believe that's possible. Not working is one thing, but having it work and having the subject undo the good it did is another thing. That's probably not even very uncommon, because few people are committed to healing and change, and many who get reiki don't really understand the use it is most suitable for, nor do they use it for that purpose.

I have been attuned to be a Reiki master, though I'm redoing that attunement with a better teacher than before.

It has caused so many changes in my life. I have mostly been fine physically and emotionally, but it's really helped spiritually I think. I was in a place of a lot of fear before, but it's really been helping me to be more honest with myself and be more bold. It's opened up a lot more opportunities for me.

But more than any changes for me, I've seen it affect others that I've worked on so much. I've seen it do so much good in others lives, that it's just been amazing. I have worked on my fiancé a lot, and it's really helped her with a lot of emotional issues, and some physical healing also. I've seen some physical healing occur with people I've worked on, as well as a lot of emotional and spiritual healing.

Every time I work on someone, I'm just amazed every time I hear the results of it. It doesn't feel like I'm doing anything at all, but just using what God has given me, yet it has so many effects on others' lives. It has really inspired me to continue with this.

I'm trying to branch out now. I've worked on my fiancé a lot, and some of her family, as well as my own mother. I started my web site to be able to send healing to others, too, though. It always excites me to see the effects Reiki has had on other peoples' lives that I don't even know. It's such a confirmation for me.

Regarding energy barriers, I do think it is possible to overcome them, but sometimes I think it is dangerous to do so too quickly, or before the person is ready. I think trying to push through a blockage without any consideration for how much the person can handle, can be damaging to them, especially when it comes to emotional blockages or barriers.

Before I got attuned, I had hands-on Reiki sessions from a couple of different Reiki-ists. (One person was even one of the few direct students of Takata herself.) These sessions lasted anywhere from about 15 minutes to an hour... and there were maybe four or five sessions.

While I found the feeling of the sessions very relaxing, soothing, and warming, they did not result in much change in me at the emotional, physical or spiritual levels. And I'd think I was one of those "few people who are committed to healing and change" that you speak of. I was regular in my meditation practice, I'd done some psychotherapies, kept a dream journal, attended Native-American ceremonials, done a lot of self-help reading.

As I said before, it's impossible for me to tell if the attunement process was simply much more powerful than Reiki healing sessions tend to be, or if the main factor was the timing of my attunement (following, as it did, on all the 'self work' I had done up to that point).

How often do YOU get a healing? My last one was almost a year ago... i'm treating myself to one this week. Distance one. When the lady told me she did for healer and the healer was amazed i suggested she could be a healers healer and she thought it was funny because that's how Spirit calls her!!! I will tell you how it went after i get it .

Weena, not sure if you were directing this to me (it followed on the heels of my last post), or at all of us on the thread.

Anyhow, for me, it's been about a year since I had a hands-on Reiki healing from someone. I got some distance sessions from st33med about a month ago or so.

Others here: why not pipe up and tell Weena about when you last got healing sessions?
