Spirit Guide Question

I have a friend who believes in spirit guides and regularly asks for their guidance.

If I have them as well, then they are either grossly incompetent or shirkers who never show up for work.

So my question is, is there any way to replace them?

Is there a website where you can post a job opening for a spirit guide?

But seriously...

"If I have them as well..." is a sign to me that you are not in contact with them consciously. Right? You gotta check in with your guides to get their messages. Otherwise all they can do is try to spiritually nudge you in the right direction. But if you don't pick up the clues they have to throw their hands up and try again.

It's my understanding that your spirit guide is your spirit self (aka: your higher self; higher spirit self; twin spirit). It may be manifested as you so desire, one guide, two guides, etc. It is that part of you that nudges you to ascend to higher levels of consciousness and to become one in act, thought, and speech.

ElizaJ, your spirit guides are assigned to you by your higher self. Your higher self may act as a guide, but is not technically in the same class as spirit guide.

There are many spirit guides, but just one higher self.

Spirit guides may come and go as the situation warrants, but your higher self is there to stay through thick and thin, all the way from beginning to end.

About 4 years ago, I was going through the worst pain of my life when, on my friend's suggestion, I tried asking for insight from the SGs. Nothing else was helping. I heard nothing but had a sneaking suspicion that they were sitting around somewhere, just out of earshot, smoking a big fat doob and giggling as I lay curled up in a fetal position on the floor.

I tend to not hear mine as well, then I"ll get a very clear signal from them, or as one put it "A spiritual two by four upside the head.."

Learn to meditate... that is the key.

I had a chuckle reading this. I remember in my early days of working with spirit guides, watching my guide pacing the floor in obvious frustration. My middle daughter Emily (15 at the time) walked in and started laughing. Em's hearing impaired and wears hearing aids. She said, 'Can you honestly not hear him Mum? You are so deaf. He's saying that he can't believe how little you remember and he had no idea communicating with you would be so difficult.'
It was a major shift in perspective for me and a shock as I didn't know Em could see let alone hear them.

The messages are often subtle. We have to slow down a bit to get them.
A couple of days later I was feeling quite flat and took myself for a walk on the beach. We'd just had a big storm and the beach was wet and littered with seaweed and debrie. I'd asked, 'So how much more do I have to learn & am I just a slow learner?'
I noticed a tiny white fluffy feather on top of a pile of rubbish and picked it up muttering, 'So I'm just a baby in this.' Paced out along the beach were 4 feathers. Each one slightly bigger than the last. The last one was a small straight under feather. I climbed back into my thinking maybe I'd made some progress. As I drove up the hill to home, a huge adult feather appeared across the sky in the strata cloud. It was still there when I arrived home and looked out the window. The message was to keep looking beyond myself.

even I feel the same, recently I had attended an Interview in another town which I was sure of getting. I had all the plans for relocation etc in place and it just didn't matirialize, there were all the possible signs...

I have been working with a spiritual community for a few years. Everyone "hears" their spirit guides in a different manner. You really need to learn your own method. They can communicate with words, images, feelings, etc. I struggled for awhile because my experience/s didn't look like anyone else's. I found out that I need to "listen" with my whole being. A good practice is to get out into nature at least 5 miles from the city for a few hours. Ask your SG's to help you release any resistance and be open to any experience/s that may come. I see alot of things in nature that will really ring true for me. I receive alot of symbolic messages. Someone spoke about feathers. They are also a very big gift from spirit to me. I frequently ask Spirit to give me a confirmation and lo and behold, I will find a feather.

Elodawna: I find your contribution refreshing. There was a time I thought receiving signs would be more consistent. I can relate to your own discovery about the benefits of opening your senses. My life has taught me to prepare for the unexpected.

Antiventurecapital: Thanks for your humor. Did you ever think that maybe your spirit guides desired you to learn things from that painful experience 4 years ago? If you had connected with them at that time, what would you have asked?

Hindweb:I can relate to your recent vision about relocation. Back in 2005, I had a similar experience. At the time, I also recognized signs pointing in another direction and it was this 'other' route than evolved. Fun to reflect on what I sensed might have been and even then, knew it wouldn't be!

I've been thinking about this for a few days, waiting to have an answer that might be helpful... (And yes, I'll answer your questions)

First though, have you tried writing as a way of communicating with them? I did that for years, without even realizing that's what I was doing. I'd just pick up some paper or my journal and start writing all the crap that was in my head. Then most of the time, once I got all the junk out, I'd start writing something else. Something that usually felt good to read, and was often very supportive and encouraging. And sometimes instructional.

It wasn't until a couple of months ago when I read an old journal that I realized - the responses were coming from both my Higher Self (me as Spirit, the "Who-I-Really-Am Part") and my Spirit Guides. It was an amazing feeling to know I'd been connecting and communicating with them for FAR longer than I'd realized.

The key thing here is I HAD to get all the anger/fear/frustration/hatred/worry/anxiety/etc out of me FIRST. Any time I stopped before getting it out, there was no Response from Spirit. Meditation does something similar - gets the crap out of the way so you can then clearly communicate as spirit, with spirit.

Looks like it would also work to do the same thing verbally - say it out loud - again, until it's all out.

(I haven't forgotten your questions, answers coming in just a second)

In your case, writing looks easiest/clearest. You could start with something like "where the heck are my spirit guides???? You guys suck..." Or whatever.)

You saw this image correctly, as it was presented to you to see, but, it was not your spirit guides. Your guides are right behind that picture, waiting (for you to be aware of connecting).

And, sure, you can 'place an order' for new Spirit Guides. (No website to list a job opening though) But it's easy, just write out everything you want in a guide. Be very specific. Work on it for a couple of weeks, at least. Get all the anger and resentment and frustration out of the way first. Then ask for exactly what you want. When it feels complete, drop it in a psychic mailbox, and wait.

Here's the funny thing though. Remember the Pina Colada song? Where the woman places a personal ad and her boyfriend answers? Where they turned out to be exactly what each of them wanted, they just didn't know it? All they needed was to communicate in a different way?

I too have used my journal as a way to connect to my higher self. I often just write and write and write and then a few days or months later I go back and re-read what I wrote and (1) I totally don't remember ME writing that or even thinking that and (2) The advice or info is super accurate and useful now looking at it in hindsight.

Whether you call this connecting with spirit or not, or channeling, is up to you. If you're not comfortable with that, you can just say it's a really smart part of your brain talking.

Working with my spiritual coach, she made me aware that my journaling is how I'm currently comfortable channeling information from the spirit world. Since then I've made some progress meditating and actually meeting a few of my guides, getting their names etc.

There's no way to "prove" that they are real, and not just parts of my imagination, but (1) I *know* they are real, (2) My coach who's a psychic verified that I have made contact and (3) A totally independant psychic that doesn't know me or my coach also told me I have gotten in touch with my guides. I realize that it doesn't meet the "scientific" burden of proof, but for me, it's enough. Even if conservatively, I've just opened up a door to talking a part of my subconcious mind, it's still awesome.

The only thing I'd say is that you have to be REALLY open to the whole spiritual world concept, and psychic phenomena, and "unproven things" as some call them to even attempt doing this. If you're still stuck only believing things the general public does, it might be pretty hard to get in touch with your guides. Keep in mind, that it's not their job to tell you what to do. They just "guide".

By the way, have you ever been in a near-collision in your car, or almost died or got seriously injured and felt like some "force" saved you either by telling you to do something, or pushing you out of the way or anything like that? If so, that could be one of your guides talking to you. At times like this, they might come through a lot LOUDER and smack you in the head to make you pay attention because you're about to get hurt. That's what happened to me a few times in my life. I just didn't know it as my guides warning me. I thought it was "coincidence" at the time.

Does anyone else have snarky spirit guides? Mine is sarcastic and insulting, he's always right and man does he let me know about it. First thing I'm doing after I return to the Universe is kicking his behind around for awhile. I used to think he was my ego, but a few incidents proved that he is not. Sometimes in dreams he and I will just sit there and debate. He shows himself in these dreams as an incredibly gorgeous man who makes Brad Pitt look like Danny DeVito so I'm guessing that's where his ego trip comes from - he's hot and he knows it.

Also, the last time I ignored him I ended up in a car wreck that cost me $900 and he does not let me forget it!

My first encounter with him was last summer when he told me what my life purpose was and I brushed it off. I think that is why he and I don't have the best working relationship. We understand each other now, and he's a lot more civil. Its funny, everyone thinks spirit guides are these benevolent angels always sweet and inspiring. Mine is inspiring all right - inspiring me to think of new ways to get into dream form so I can thwap him

I have encountered many different personalities when I'm tuned in to people's guides. Some are like dottering old men, some are like Klingon warriors. Some are airy fairy, love and light, and some are quiet and forboding. Spirit guides are people too.

i am only a week or 2 into all this, but this is my experience.

i astral projected the first night after reading erins stuff on it, i guess cuz i was so excited and what not; i wasnt ready. the sky started spinning and i got scared and gravitiy was shifting all over the place. i heard this crackle of energy like transformers or somtthing, and i heard many voices, half whispers, in my ears. my body started lifting off of the bed, especially my legs, and i was super scared. i then allowed it to happen and let it be for a moment, and i peeled out of my body and a distinct voice started talking about death and weird stuff that i dont fully remember, at which point i got very scared again, dropped back into my body, and that was that. looking back i think there were a couple reasons for all that.

i think i was vibrating at a low frequency because i was so scared. i think the voices were astral beings of evil messing with me (not in a joking manner though). also i did not know about protecting my aura and my energy. that is one topic i feel that erin should write more about, as i have discovered it is very very important whenever meditating, or even just being in a crowd.

the next day i went to my local psychic and she took one look at me and told me i was playing with dangerous stuff without any knowledge (paraphrase) and she taught me how to protect my energy.

anyways sry for the long post. as for my spirit guides i am starting to feel a presence in the dark like i did when i was a kid (my spirit guides i think). its a little freaky, so i can understand why they havent revealed themselves to me yet. with time will come understanding.

i get messages of all different kinds from my guides
i generally just hear, at the beginning though i would start to hear them and i would write what they were saying, sometimes asking questions and them answering... sometimes them just giving messages
i did the same thing with readings for other people, i found if i just listened i became judgemental where as if i wrote it down and read it back when they were finished it didnt give me time to judge what i was getting and feel it wasnt right or it was my imagination

i have very sarcastic guides which suits me well
when i start getting messages and dont believe it i distincly see a man hitting his head against a wall, and believe me the poor guy did that for month after month until i finally realised that i truelly was getting info from them
also i would get (from someone else) hooray dorothy we aint in cansas anymore.. lol still makes me giggle

i have noticed that through time some have left and others come in their place... do you notice when that happens... do you miss them
or am i completely insane!

Spirit guides do come and go as your life changes. New ones are brought in to deal with different aspects of your development. Some guides stay with you your entire life.

All my fly-by-night guides have been animals. I've always been connected to nature. So far I've had a snake, a wolf, a sea lion (I live 10 minutes from the beach), a red-tailed hawk and a horse. So far only one human.

When I was a kid I used to have this feeling of these 3 entities that were constantly watching me. I didn't particularly like it and worked very hard to tune out that feeling. I haven't felt the sense of that presence since I was a kid. Is it possible that those were my spirit guides? Also, around that same time I remember thinking/deciding that I had to take care of everything myself, that I couldn't ask for help from anyone. Could that be why my spirit guides aren't very helpful? There is something about the concept of spirit guides that I find disturbing/agitating. Can anyone give me any insight as to why I would feel this way and/or what I can do to change my perception?

Yeah, my guides retired or something the other week. Supposedly replaced by these new "better" dudes who reckon they can sort everything out just nicely.

Time will tell. I'm inclined to believe them though, since one of them apparently has a great big sword.
