Hey all, I was wondering whether anyone could help me to understand (assuming theres anything to be understood) a recent development of mine. Last night while lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, i noticed a sound start to pick up in my ears. I say in my ears, or head, because it could only be heard in my right ear, and there was nothing in my immeadiate vicinity which could of been making that sound. Also the sound became louder when I cupped my hand over my ear. I attempted this with my left ear also, just to make sure, and no sound could be heard. The sound itself was reminiscent of gusting wind or a far off waterfall, and it varied with intensity, ranging from quite audible to very faint. I remember reading somewhere that hearing sounds in your right ear was somehow a 'good' sign, but if anyone could clear this up at all for me it would be very much appreciated. Cheers.

I have often had similar experiences. However, I have also suffered from several ear infections as well as 'swimmers ear'. Doctors have told me that I have narrow ear canals which are easily blocked. For me at least, the 'rushing air' or 'waterfall' sound is usually a precursor to some sort of blockage in the ear canal. Do you sleep with your head on one side or the other?

It's called tinnitus. Not sure if there's a cure. I was able to block mine out at some point by sort of "willing it away." I think I still have it, but haven't noticed it much...or maybe I really did get rid of it. (I have a feeling when I go to bed in a few mins. I'll probably notice it again now!) |

In various literature, there is mention of the sacred sound current that you can hear during meditation. The Astara Mystery School has an exercise for listening for it (they refer to it as the Holy Naad), and I've read various explanations for it - that it is the sound of Om, the original primordial sound from which all creation arises, or that it is the sound of the pineal gland as it vibrates. I attended a meditation seminar a while back and the teacher had the group cup their hand at the back of the right ear, and then said that this sound is similar to the holy sound that we might hear during meditation. Whoa! I realized that this was the sound I've been hearing for quite some time. Most noticeably before I am fully awake and definitely during meditation. I can only describe it as a cross between a hissing sound and a ringing. Once I realized that, I began to listen for it more often, even using it as a mantra on occasion. Other literature encourages spiritual aspirants to continue listening until you hear other sounds behind the original, and there are even lists which attempt to describe the progression in various ways - birds, chimes, a single note, etc. The sound is not distracting in any way, and is pretty much masked by everyday noises. But in a quiet environment it is definitely there. I realize that there is a condition called tinnitus, but that might not explain it. I think that there is a way to tell the difference - will just take some research. |

Tinnitus (which I've had) is a ringing in the ear or ears. High pitched and almost a whistle. The worse cases are this sound will drown out all other sound. Also, other sound will get garbled when you have this problem. This is also accompanied with a feeling of blockage in the ear, and the ear will pop when you swallow. What you describe could be physical, such as picking up the sound of blood rushing through your arteries in your neck, near the ear... Or you are having a shift in perspective and are hearing sounds projected at you from spirits near you... |

What ChrisC said about their being a progression rung a bell with me, as a couple of nights before the guisting sound in my ear, which is now gone, also while I was lying in bed, out of nowhere a note suddenly started playing in my right ear. There wasn't much of a fade in, it just sort of appeared, but it was very clear, then as soon as it came it began slowly fading out. The sound wasn't accompanied by any pain, and it wasn't ringing, more reminiscent of a note played on a keyboard.

When I hear a sudden sound in my ears it's usually a spirit trying to talk to me. So I just tell them they need to change their frequency (energy) and the sound goes away. Sometimes I can then 'talk' with them, other times they're gone - like they called me on the phone but hung up when I answered.

I hear this noise all the time, but I associate it with 'silence'. I'm not sure if it's a result of my generation listening to loads of loud music (I'm 15), or EVERYBODY gets it (some input from the older generations...?), but it sounds to me like a ringing. I can only hear it when it's 'silent', which is why I'll often say that silence is the loudest noise. If you let it envelop you, it gets EXTREMELY loud. I'm not sure what this has to do with meditation and the like, but that's my experience with it. |

But the sounds within meditation could very well be authentic, I remember having such experiences myself when meditating sometimes. Like that of ones vibration picking up.

I figure it has at least something to do with meditation, as I have been doing it daily now for about a month. And the gust-esque noise is back, but this time in both ears. I think that it may actually be just, due to increased awareness, me hearing blood rush through my head.

MyFuture - - there are a small number of rather intricate teachings that speak of such sounds - - heard within the head - - which they suggest - - is hearing them via your spiritual senses. The sound of the wind you hear is very common - - as is the sound of running water / babbling brooks / or waterfalls. Other sounds one may hear is that of thunder, crickets, tinkling of bells - - and one you might have heard of - - the single note of a flute - - but you may have interpreted it as that of a piano key. Consider these to be *most* important. You are truly blessed to have heard them. If and when you hear them - - "see" yourself as you lay with your eyes closed - - "see" yourself walking into the sound itself. Just - - imagine yourself walking into it - - and very closely - - watch your dreams. Record them. The sound of the wind - - as you have mentioned - - can vary. I often hear it as a strong wind as if blowing thru a forest. At other times - - a very gentle breeze. I do not want to interpret all of this for you as you may then color your own discoveries from my information. But please - - consider this to be most important. If nothing else - - please - - watch your dreams. This can be considered as the same thing as actually "seeing" the Light with the inner vision - - but perhaps a touch above that - - if I can put "levels" on it all. Again - - you are most fortunate. Please do not dismiss this casually. Send me a PM if you wish to discuss this privately. Some find this very awkward to discuss. Last edited by Glorymist; 03-14-2007 at 12:41 AM. |

Speaking of "seeing" the light, a couple of nights ago, whilst doing chakra meditation to music, all of a sudden I felt "something" change, and energy start to build up, then or some reason I felt like there was light sort of shining on, or surrounding me, but that it was coming from the top of my head downwards. I opened my eyes, as I was quite startled by this, in order to see where the light waws coming from. Only when I opened my eyes I saw nothing, but the feeling remained, like I knew it was there, but could only be felt not seen. The feeling gradually faded away. Very cool experience.

for the past couple of weeks, I have been experiencing these subtle, yet audible noises that sounds like a summer night. Mostly crickets. I have been on a spiritual journey for about a year. I am a political junkie type and have been highly active online trying to force a new investigation into 9/11. About a year ago, I felt like I was losing it. It was around that time that I began to look at the anomalies of what happened on that day. I didn't sleep and kept long hours researching and learning. I joined the scholars for 9/11 truth and also posted in other online forums dedicated to truth. At a dark moment, where I began to question my sanity for the amount of time I was spending without getting anywhere in changing minds, I felt a presence. No words, a calm came over me and I just *knew* the path I was taking was right. That I would garner favor in this life or the next for at least trying to bring this subject out in a different light. I have been a calmer and better person since. I have my moments, but not nearly as often and I don't get angry or afraid about it. So, this past month, I have been reading and watching videos about what human spirituality is to different people. What it means to be spiritual. Then recently, I noticed these sounds. For some reason (without even thinking it could be anything medical) I felt it was some sort of communication. I don't know what it means. Maybe reassurance that I'm not alone? I found it interesting and this forum and others like it that I have found online have confirmed my suspicions were probably right. Nice community you all have here. I think I'll look around. |

How do you get rid of the tinnitus. I started having it last year after listening to radionics, different frequencies. Then some how it stopped. But a month ago I started meditating intensively and got them again. What is it and how to get rid of it if i should? I hear it all the time. When i focus on it it clears my sinus and kinda sharpens my attention to whatever i do. The sound increases when I am studying/reading or concentrating on a thought. What is it? What shall i do? Please help.

Noises can happen as interference inside your head. When you are deeply relaxed and calm both halves of your brain are functioning simultaniously which doesn't happen too often when you are awake and unfocused. I do not know what its called but it happens by each half of the brain operating at different frequencies and the difference is converted into a noise. Happens to me often when I am either falling asleep or meditating. Robert Monroe outlined this in his book Far Journeys. But other tinnitus can be caused by damaged hearing (music too loud, etc.). Not time it happens, try to see where it came from. It might be in your ears or it could originate in your head. |

Hi MyFutureSelf ChrisC is onto something here. I reckon the sound you have in your ear is Tinnitus and unfortunately there is no cure. Some people have learnt to cope with it by ignoring it. As to experiencing the white light - that sounds awesome. It must have been quite a transendental moment for you. I wouldn't mind experiencing that myself. Peekaboo |

I have sounds in my ears all the time more or less. I am very greatful for it, because I feel it very helpful. I feel it is encodings of my brain. If I ask the spirit for help, then I can hear a change in the sounds. Some times it is high sometimes it is low. So instead of making the sounds to an illness, we can make them a part of our self. |

Myfutureself, From your description, I don't think it's tinnitus. There is a small muscle that lies next to the inner ear called the Anterior Auricularis. When you contract that muscle, it places slight but noticable pressure on the auditory nerve causing the perception of a "rushing" sound in your ears. This can happen if you lie on one side or another, or if you have a slight ear infection or other cause of swelling. Anything that places slight pressure on the auditory nerve will present as a "rushing" sound, or as you put it, like a waterfall far away. It is actually an involuntary reflex when noises are very loud to reduce the impact of the noise on the listener. If it continues, I'd go see an ENT. |

I hear Ents are good listeners. I too have a ringing/whooshing in my ears constantly and don't really know what this 'silence' thing is. Sometimes late at night the ringing (or woooshing) is so loud that it's like turning on a stereo to max and putting it right up to my head. "WHOOSH-----WHOOOSH-----WHOOSH" all the while ringing away behind that. I never thought of it as a 'spiritual' sound but I wonder if tinnitus could be used as a sort of NLP trigger by turning it into an emotionally happy experience. "Even when I'm alone at night the song of the world sings for me, and I can hear it in all its beauty..." |

Silence has been almost a once in a lifetime experience for me. I think I have heard it at least twice though. It's truly rare to hear absolutely nothing at all, there's almost always wind or some insects buzzing or machines running. Now I've had my internally produced noise constantly for years. So even if the external world is totally silent, I can't enjoy it, I will only hear my own buzz loud and clear. |

Only in experiencing the Void in a Journey can I truly experience Silence. I don't like to do it often. It's too unsettling.
