Looking for Help With Spirit Guides

It appears that whenever someone has a problem around here, the most common bit of advice is to "consult the guides/higher self/Source/angels/whatever." Lost something? Consult the guides. Need some advice? Consult the guides. Need some love and support? Consult the guides.

The guides pop up on this forum, and in the writings of various promenent psychics with such frequency that they seem to be a universal experience. So, it seems reasonable to me to conclude that they actually exist.

I have tried to establish this contact myself (mainly through meditation- which I try to do every day), but have not yet been successful. I'm starting to think I do not have any sort of skill for this psychic stuff. I'm curious: is there anyone here who did not have some kind of natural talent for psychic abilities from a young age, yet managed to develop them later on?

I suppose I'm really just after some advice and encouragement here. I would like to get your feedback on what techniques work for you, and what you think may work for me. As long as I don't have to spend any money, I will try- with great effort and enthusiam- whatever methods you suggest to me. I can also report back to you how it goes.

I think the spirit guides speak in differnt ways to differnt people . I think the trick is to know what to listen or look for . One problem I have is keeping my mind quite after I ask a questen .Some people see visions , some hear , sometimes an event will provide an ansure . This is not an exzact science. Not everthing works ever time , if you dont get an ansure ask again. Sory I am a bad speller . desert rat

yes I totally second desert rat...the trickiest part is to know what to look out for this can be achieved thru meditation as it will quieten the mental chatter and the messages be it via vision, audio, or thoughts will get clearer.

I found The Great Awakening by Michael Sharp to be very useful on the subject of spirit guides. The book offers tips on preparing for spiritual awakening but if you want info on spirit guides skip to Roadside Communication chapter.

Get clear about what you are needing assistance with and start projecting the thought - it is really that simple, like having a conversation with a friend. I wouldn't put too much effort into it as that can greatly obstruct any connection.

As for psychic abilities - everyone possesses a natural talent for this but for most people it remains dormant due to social conditioning.

OK. This is what I would suggest. Try connecting right before you go to sleep. Lie down and take deep breaths... just until you feel significantly calmer.

Prepare yourself as if you were facing a friend or family member; imagine that you need to get certain things off your chest, and that you're about to let this person know in the clearest way possible. After you let them know what you're wanting to talk about, it's their time to speak and your time to listen (never the two things at once.) The best way I can think of to explain it is... you must get to a point of surrender.

The answer may come in a vision, a voice, a dream, etc. It is also very common for the answer to come through feelings. If you feel a sense of peace, if you feel as if clouds have parted inside of yourself, that is your answer. What I'm trying to say is... sometimes the answers aren't instantaneously processed by the waking mind. And so the answers come, and you feel them, but it takes a little time or some details to come into effect for us to understand them. The most important thing is to surrender, to trust.

Back to my suggestions: try it before you go to sleep; this might allow the answers to be more tangible because you are in a vulnerable state. Another BIG thing is, connect with your guardian Angel before you try connecting with the guides. I would also suggest that the first guide you attempt to communicate with be your Master guide. But always first, your guardian angels, especially in the beginning stages. I say this because you want to make sure that you're connecting with your guides, and not random spirits posing as guides. Ask your Guardian Angel to guard the gates of communication with the spirit realm; to let nothing reach you that is of ill- influence, etc.

Overall, I gotta say... connecting with the angels is so beautiful. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Guardian Angels, Archangel Michael They're the best. <3 Get a feel for their energy. They can help you with anything that goes on in your life (including connecting with your guides... if that is your wish.)

The book "how to talk with your angels" by Kim O'Neill...works really great!

I've used this book myself... and really like it. No matter how frustrating your first attempts are... keep trying... you'll get it.

I'm also having trouble with this Spirit guide connection thing. Im practicing both astral projection, lucid dreaming and meditation all to get in touch with them but this far without success...
I'm a very suspicious person and a daydreamer so I don't very much trust the whole "listen yo your inner voice" because I either get nothing or find myself talking to something that doesn't make sense or just gives bad answers.
Sure the whole meditation thing to quiet the mind works well, but when trying to contact my guides I get nothing. So ... I'm starting to wonder ... does everyone really have guides, or might it be that they are simply not listening? (It can also be me being deaf, but how do I change that o.0 )

You must be very patient when trying to contact your guides, they come through in very gentle ways, you have to "fine-tune" your own sensing abilities to finally get it done. I would try automatic writing, where you just sit down with a pen and paper and write a question to your guides and then as an answer put down the first thing that comes to mind, even if it feels as if you're making it up. Just start writing... and then answers will just flow out of you. I use this method myself with much success, but in the beginning it wasn't easy, I had to practice alot.

Keep the faith and hang in there.... you'll get it eventually.

I have had a lot of experience with spirit guides, with my own and helping others find theirs. Sometimes you have to give them permission to help you and speak with you. Even though they may already help you out in many situations, they still require your permission or your asking for their help at times.
