I would love to have a suggestion for you here, but I sort of got into it by playing and seeing what I liked and what felt right. I do know there's folks here who have good recommendations for this topic, hopefully they will post.

EDIT: Just remembered this book (Edgar Cayce on the Power of Color, Stones, and Crystals, Edgar Cayce Series, Edgar Evans Cayce, Book - Barnes & Noble) which I bought a few months ago because I was drawn to its energy... I think it would be a helpful choice, though it may also not be as "how to" as what you're looking for.

This definitely depends on the goals and the energy of the person. I really resonate with terminated quartz (if it has been found by an individual and not gone through a factory process of some sort, so much better), amethyst, tiger's eye, malachite, celestite, smoky quartz, agate, selenite, and onyx.

Yep, I got told by a metaphysical/crystal person that.. the crystal that balanced out my aura best was "selenite"

I can't say I know much.. I can say they can give you noticable effects right away it seems if you get the ones properly tuned for you

(cause when I held 2 selenites in my hand.. I could find of feel balancing effects) I was carrying around specific crystals to help with my teeth.. and still am.. just more focused on getting a specific "new age" remedy for "gums"

Nope.. I'd just use the internet.. go to the book store.. and look at the pretty pictures and write down the names/take photo's that what's I did

Again, specific crystals tuned to you are best.. I'm considering maybe getting 3rd eye/6th chakra or 7th chakra crystals.. I'm kind of interested as of late to see aura information so crystals of that nature..

I got the feeling the crystal lady I met could see auras do to using certain metaphysical crystals for years and years

Hmm... Is there a reason why you need 2 selenites? I was intending to buy 2 - one for myself and the other as a gift.

No, not that I'm aware off

I think in part she had me hold 2 cause there's chakra's in the hands (not sure )

She told me that I needed "high" energy crystals.. like herself.. which was surprising to hear.. (she's in MN.. if that helps ) but she goes to tuscon every year for the mineral event (I bet if you want to find metaphysical crystal experts its the place to be once a year )

Yah, they make chakra wands too.. some of the information I read is.. just choose the crystals you like.. if you order them on the internet.. just assume you ordered the right ones for you..

The big thing to learn is to take the time to cleanse them.. one reason why I got a huge selenite cathedral is just to recharge them (takes 5 minutes so says the lore) and then piece of selenite too carry around.. I really do like selenite and was tempted to buy some palm pieces they make I found at a mineral shop

Also I learned this when I was in arkansas recently.. here you dig up your own all you want for like $10 crystals and diamonds from the mine or dirt was what I read

I read you can definitely get like quartz (good all-round crystal) and other things like topaz (apparently they grow cause of the *cough* atlantis crystals )

In terms of books what sort of information are you after? Something more scientific or metaphysical?

My favourite books are "crystal medicine" "love is in the earth" and "the crystal bible".

My favourite stones are: labradorite, danburite, selenite, seraphinite, quartz.

Are you looking for a specific purpose for them?

Hematite is great for grounding. If you get it in the form of jewelry, I recommend not wearing it on the upper half of the body as this can sort of be too much. So, wearing it around your ankle would be a helpful application. And you could wear it under socks if you wanted to.

Onyx is another one that I find to be both grounding and clarifying, likewise for smoky quartz.

Neat story. One time I went to the crystal shop and held out my hands over the containers to see which stones would 'call' to me and be good for my energy at the time. I was looking for a bit of self-soothing because I'd recently lost a pet. I felt this strange resonance with petrified coal ("jet"). I trusted it even though I had no clue about its suggested benefits.

I bought a few pieces and checked online when I got home - jet is often suggested for help with grief. I thought the way this worked out was incredible

That is wonderful Rei, you're attuned to the crystals. I have the same thing, always choosing the exact "tool" i need, then checking in my books and going "wow". It's like the crystals talk to your subconscious whilst you choose them. My crystals get rainbows appearing in them after i've had them for a while (sign of happiness). I also know how to spot a sick/misused crystals. Some crystals just jump at my eyes and when i hold them i can feel their energy. Some are tingling, some are pumping (heartbeat like). the last one i got (mentioned it in the akashic topic) was that selenite tower, when i hold it i feel a powerful, soothing energy emanating from it.

More metaphysical I would say. Books that tell you the healing properties of the crystals. Not so much into their physical properties, eg. density, unless the information is applicable for healing.

Then i'd recommend "Love is in the earth" by Melody. My favourite crystal for abundance is citrine. I have a big citrine tealight candle holder in the "abundance" corner of my home (feng shui thing). You can also make elixirs with the stones, just make sure they are not toxic though (there are websites listing which ones are okay or not to use). I have made an abundance elixir and it works wonderfully, though i can't tell you if it is psychosomatic on me or if i just resonate perfectly with any kind of vibrational medicine (i like bach flowers as well). But yeah, definitely try some citrine for abundance. For the sacral, go for a red stone, red jasper, garnet, stuff like that, trust your intuition when choosing it. don't forget to cleanse and charge your crystals. I never read books...always just went for what stood out to me, and they do literally call you. I remember one time, I saw a market stall with hundreds of different crystals. I bought a rose quartz chunk but it didn't really give me a feeling of any kind. As I walked away I turned and looked back and this beautiful piece of citrine actually jumped right out, from a distance, to me , and it wasn't very big at all, but it called me back and I replaced the rose quartz for it straight away. I've had many great adventures with crystals and let them go when the time was right.

Sitting with the crystals and having a receptive attitude is the best way to recieve information as to how they can benefit you and how they like to be treated and cleansed etc. Books are fine and good, but if you really want to learn about them, ask the crystals! They're alive...and have their own personalities, like people...unique and individual.

My faves are: Selenite (I have a wand which is sometimes so powerful that I can only hold it for a minute or two, it literally gets too much and I have to put it away from me), citrine has always stayed with me, Black tourmaline, smokey quartz, hematite for grounding, laboradite and green amber.

That funny you mention the crystal "jumping at your eyes". First time i bought a crystal is when that part of my life opened up, all of a sudden i saw all those crystal shops that were always there but i never noticed. My first crystal was smallish but so beautiful, i went straight to the counter and said "this one!", only to realise it was a quartz with about fifteen phantoms in it. When i tried to "connect" with it back at home i held my hand above it and got the strongest tingles starting in my palm, going up my arm and up to my head...like if i was getting all numb. It's funny though i still am unsure of the work i'm meant to do with it, but because of that experience i know one day it'll be one of my best tools .

i don't know the name of the crystal that i was given but it's used to remove negative energies and convert them into positive. the funny thing is that i'm filled with negative and it was working. it is now brown when it was a foggy white/clear. i know that I'm supposed to put it in salt water for like 7 days or burn a certain herb over it to turn it white and purify it.

That sounds interesting. Not sure what that would be, but it does sound like it needs a clean ASAP!

My friend bought a crystals kit at the bookstore with a bunch of instructions. We even burried them in the earth and set them out under the moon one night!

I have a quartz that I bought for a few cents when I was in 7th grade simply because I liked to collect stones then. More recent years I carried it in a pocket all the time because it seemed lucky.

It's gone through the wash at least 4 or 5 times by accident. Is that bad?

I was also given a rose quartz to help with romance things, though I didn't notice any changes for many, many years (maybe I wasn't ready?).

I'm sure they need to be recharged. Someone said sea salt so I'm Googling this now...

To recharge them, moonlight or sunlight do a great job, or an amethyst/quartz cluster/geode. You could also send energy in it (if you worked out how to let energy flow from your hands)(easy thing to do, btw).
