My First Astral Projection Experience- No projection but still amazing!

I'm on spring break right now (except in England we call it the Easter holidays) and I've decided that, during the month ahead, I will be learning the art of astral projection. I made my first attempt at astral projection today. I didn't succeed in separating my astral body from my physical body, but I still had an amazing experience which I would like to detail here. So this is the story of my first attempt at astral projection...

I laid down on my bed and did a progressive relaxation exercise. I relaxed each of my body parts, going from feet to head, then I imagined myself in a beautiful garden. I admired the greenery for a bit, then descended down a stone staircase, counting 10 to 1 as I went. At the bottom of the staircase was a well, brimming with bright blue water. I soaked myself in the well, thus completing the progressive relaxation.

Then, I said to myself that I was going to leave my body and project to the other side of the room. For a few minutes I watched my breathing, and focused my attention on my pineal gland. I could feel as though there were a liquid entity inside my body- my "soul consciousness" is the expression that comes to mind, since that was what it must have been. It had come of laying dormant inside my physical body and was now moving its way up my body, to concentrate itself at my pineal gland. Slowly, it moved past my pelvic area, through my abdomen, past my heart and chest, into my throat, until it was fully inside my head with the focal point at my forehead.

At that point, it tried to squirm out of my physical body through the forehead. A shaking sensation came over me. It was strongest in my head, and there was a second focal point at my abdomen, near my navel. What followed was amazing. I started feeling as though I were elderly (I'm actually 20) and my soul was trying to squirm out of an old shell. In my mind's eye, I could see a flickering, blueish circle of light with spikes around it, kind of like a fractal. As the vibrations continued, it felt as though I were lifting my head. I determined this would be my astral body leaving my physical body through my forehead, so I went with it. I ended up sitting up on my bed, astral body still trying to leave. The energy in my head felt spiritual, light and airy yet intense and purposeful. The energy in my abdomen felt almost its opposite, coloured bright red and yellow like a flower or some kind of Chinese dragon.

I decided that I was not going to make it, that I would not project. I relaxed all my efforts and then laid down. But I decided to give it a second go. It took longer for the energy entity to haul itself into my forehead, and the concentration at my pineal gland did not feel as strong. I would imagine this was because I'd already exerted a great deal of my strength in the first attempt. At this point, the effort of astral projection reminded me a bit of childbirth. I'm a guy, so that is quite an odd comparison, but that was what came to mind. It was like I was trying to expel a heavy/large object from my body. I think "heavy" is the best way to describe it. It was such an effort and it was so hard, but I was determined to do it. Nothing was going to stop me. (Anyone reading who is a mother, you will probably have something to say about this, but seriously that was what came to mind!)
The endgame played out like before. I felt like my body was an elderly shell, the vibrations in my head and abdomen resumed, and I sat up. Again, I butted out, but I decided that I have a bit more to learn in that area before trying again.

Afterwards, I felt fantastic. I hadn't done a successful astral projection, but it's still a first try and I have plenty to take away from it. I laid down on my bed, and it felt like I had undertaken a major spiritual transference. I had bared my soul to the air around me and the spiritual energy it contained, and I had interacted with that energy on a soul-to-soul intimate level. I was trembling for about 10 minutes after the exercise.

So, that was it. What I would appreciate is some advice on that end part. Has anyone else felt like they need to sit up when astral projecting? What kind of advice do you have for me to make that final push and leave my physical body?

Also, what other books or resources would you recommend on the subject? So far I've read "Astral Travel For Beginners" by Richard Webster, and I'm planning on reading Robert Munroe's "Far Journeys".

I recommend the book "Adventures Beyond the Body" by William Buhlman - I found it to be comprehensive.

One thing I recommend to you is to not try so hard! We each do this nightly (when we go to sleep) and don't have to go through such strain.

Where exactly was the flickering, blueish circle of light with spikes around it?

Was it straight in front like in the forehead area?

How far was it from you?

I think it was straight ahead. It felt like I was perceiving it with my third eye. I also think it was like I was hurtling through a tunnel, and that was the light at the far end of it, even though I didn't feel any sensation of speed or anything.

Third eye usually gives vision outside the subtle body, just as physical eyes give vision outside of the physical body and not to the inside of it. Usually when third eye operates, one sees through it into this world or into other dimensions.

Third also may not open fully but would still cause the vision of energy moving in and out of the third eye. It may be like a tunnel or like a vortex moving towards you and then disappearing or moving away from you and then vanishing, and this may go on happening for sometime
