It's been a month now since my sweet Ike the Wonder Guinea Pig passed away of old age in my arms. I believe we had a psychic connection, as when I first got him from a friend I was suffering depression and this little varmint made sure I got up every morning at 8:00 sharp to go to work, he would lie under my music stand until I was finished practicing my mandolin, and, well, he got me on the track to sanity. The question is: Is there a spiritual bond with our pets beyond death? Or am I niave to belive that Ike is waiting for me in heaven?

I have encountered pets when I do readings for people. It amazed me the first time. I've seen cats, dogs, and even a horse. In my experience, they are definitely still out there. You will see your pet again.

Thanks, Erin, but is he playing with other guinea pig souls or planning to reincarnate? Is he still writing lyrics for my Bluesman's avante-quarde band's web-site?(Well, actually it was me, but I figured that if Ike could write songs, those would be the kind he would send Mudcat. |

I certainly believe we have permanent connections to our pets, and in a lot of ways they serve us far more than we ever realize. While it's sad for us when they die, the truth is that death is progress. It means he's progressing forward to the next level on his own spiritual path. I think he would want you to be happy for him, rather than see you be sad. My feeling is that Ike the Wonder Guinea Pig is spending some time in a metaphysical plane while his higher self plans his next incarnation, which will either be human if he has learned all the lessons he wanted to learn, or another animal if an animal body suits his purposes. One thing for sure is that no matter where they go, they never go away from us, since are we not all one anyway?

Dear Yossarian, It would be very interesting to find out what kind of human he would turn out to be. Ike seemed to be a very friendly, wise, loving, intelligent soul. He recognized everybody who came to visit and even was friends with the little dog next door to my apartment. In fact Krickett the Puppy-Mill Pom refugee stayed beside me as Ike beat his last heartbeat, and she even licked Ike's body clean after death. I wonder if anyone has ever given birth to a child who used to be her old dog, cat, etc.? I could see dolphins reincarnating. Hmmm... I'm beginning to ramble. |

Flaubert wrote a short story called A simple Soul... about a girl whose only love was a parrot and he passed over. When she passed over the parrot was there to greet her. I love that story, it says a lot to me of pets and their unconditional love. I am sorry u have lost ur guinea pig. Sure, he'll be there for u wen u take that great journey to the other side... hope so.. along with all ur other loved ones who've passed. I'm a psychic medium (last 20 yrs) and one sitting i remember, the sitter's loved ones were coming thru and bringing evidence etc... but right at the end her beloved dog came thru with a simple message of love.. and she wept.. Animals have so much to teach us, eh? Love and Light jan PS.. on animals becoming human... LOL... my beloved cat Donal passed in Summer 95.. i dreamed about him afterwards, was lovely... but if he had been human i can only say he'd be a biker with tatoos, bandana, harley davidson the lot.... ha ha ha .. he was a character.. dearset Janlee, If ike was human, I could see him as either as a teacher, reporter, writer or musician (he used to lie under my music stand and listen when I practiced my mandolin), or,even, say, an intellectual telephone lineman who has lots of friends and hobbies. He would certainly be a hard working, fun loving, down to earth guy most of us girls would love to marry. Bless you Ike, where ever you are! |

I'll defer to Ms. Pavlina on knowledge of the spiritual realm, but after my dog died someone sent me this little passage below. It doesn't answer any spiritual questions, but it really made me feel better at the time. I quickly understood that though a beloved pet had passed from my life that it gave me the opportunity to give another dog the sort of loving, caring and nurturing home that all dogs deserve. The good news is that there are always animals that need loving homes, and if you're the type of person who so obviously can provide one its at least part of your duty on Earth to do so. I honestly don't know what the situation is like for guinea pigs, but at least in the case of dogs and cats there are plenty of them without homes. I viewed that my loss was an opportunity to do a larger good. My newest dogs haven't replaced my rottie, Fitz, but have enriched my life in their own unique way. I've had a similar experience with the other dogs I've had in my life--they've all touched my life in a different way. >>>> Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... <<<< Here's the link... <Rainbow Bridge>
