This probably should be in the “Fun” section of the forum, since this is more than likely simply the mind creating images. Tell me if you see the same thing: With your intimate partner or a good friend, dim the lights in the room to where you can barely see their facial features while about a foot away from each other. Stare at each other’s eyes. Does it appear that the other person’s face changes every few seconds? |

When I was younger I experienced this. It was basically when I was in church and the leaders were giving talks...their faces morphed into scary looking animals. Ha ha! It could be that i was totally bored and let my imagination run wild...or they could of really been the devils sporn Last edited by ellie; 11-06-2009 at 10:26 AM. |

Ha My intimate partner AKA the husband would tell me I was crazy for even suggesting it. I've tried similar with a mirror, it's very strange when you get to the point that there are different eyes looking back at you, problem is it jumps back as soon as you think "what was that?". Just the other day I got to wondering whether these are the features of how I looked in past lifes. |

I've done it looking at myself in the mirror. As soon as you focus on your face or blink you quickly change back to normal. Much like when you're seeing auras (your own and others). This is especially interesting when done under the influence of LSD. I saw my face disintegrate down to the skull, my face was just a skeleton. Also by staring at my hand I was able to watch it age in an instant. The features of my hand grew old, withered and lifeless. This was not a hallucination, it was what I was seeing. However bad that sounds it wasn't actually a scary experience. From what I've gathered Under the influence of LSD you can see into the future past our rigid linear time structure. I was looking at the aging of my hand and its molecular structure which obviously already contains the certainty that it will eventually turn old, wither and die. This is just a fact and more proof to me at the time, that time, is indeed just an illusion. I’m not sure if the experiment mentioned in the first post can be related to my experiences but maybe it would be something that can be looked at especially when taking into account that the changing of the features of the face could be related to past (future?) lives outside of our physical time structure. |

Hmmm, when I have staring contests with people, it usually takes about 10 or 15 seconds (in any lighting) before their whole face fades out, and I can only see the eye I'm staring at. The rest of the face is just blurry skincolor! Same with the bathroom floor. When I stare at the same spot in the pattern, eventually all the lines in the pattern will become white, as the floor color, even the one I'm staring at.

I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but a favorite tabloid of that time (it ran lots of UFO and ghost stories) frequently ran an ad for a "Jesus" portrait with HUGE black eyes that would appear to morph whenever I looked at it, just as the ad claimed. It always scared the crap out of me, so I'd never look for more than a second or two. I'd dearly love to track that pic down again, to see if it was just my young impressionable mind at work, a clever optical illusion, or something stranger.

Years ago when I was a "pagan" there were spells that you could do that would show you your "past lives" using a mirror, and candles. The images were suppossed to be you in past incarnations, but as I have learned that time is all at once, then I wonder if it was showing me some of my other identites in parallel realities? Hmm, I might have to think about that. Anyway, I also was able to do this with my partner at night, and what was odd was that right after the face goes dark and you see just the eyes, his face would morph into all these animals. I literally could name each one as the morphed in and out. Even when I would blink, it would go right back. It was the wildest thing ever. He and I would talk openly about it so it did not freak him out, but it was fun. Now that we have kids we don't stare at eachother anymore at night, we sleep! |

I've also experimented by placing a hand up in front of one eye a few inches away and keeping both eyes open. Normally, the unobstructed eye overrides with the image to the brain, but if you mentally focus on seeing through the blocked-view eye, even while your eyes are focusing in the distance or not focused on anything in particular and just relaxed, that image of your hand will appear to dominate and block out what the unobstructed eye is seeing. It's easier to do if the unblocked eye is looking at something that is not too brightly lit. Most of the time the unblocked-eye view will become dominant again relatively easily. | |

Here's another experiment to try: Find a TV station that has the white-noise "snow" and stare at the center of the screen for at least 10 seconds. After that, tell yourself you want to see an "X" in the entire frame. The image may form and then drift and disappear. If successful at seeing that image, then intend on seeing a big circle and see if that image forms within the white noise. I've been successful at changing the image I see in my mind to basic shapes, even though it seems to be actually on the screen. I'm betting that if you film the white-noise as you do this, it won't change in the filmed image. This might be easier to do if you're fatigued, since the couple of times I've tried this was at the end of the night when I was ready for sleep! |

This sounds cool, I'm gonna try it with Peter tonight! My face nearly always morphs when I look in the mirror in a lucid dream. It's a bit like the cloaking masks on A Scanner Darkly, like my subconscious forgot what I looked like! (One way to combat this, lucid dreamers, is to say out loud "I want to look exactly like I look in real life". It works on other dream characters too.) One time in a lucid dream, I saw myself age really rapidly into an old woman. Then she started looking really freaky and her teeth fell out. Scary!! |

Also, patterns on the pink wall on the bathroom downstairs. The pattern is many small arrows like <<>><<>>, or something. The bathroom here upstairs has the floor pattern I mentioned. ANYWAY, since I've obviously spent some time down there, I've discovered that when I look at the wall, I can see a 'stream' sort of roll horizontally on the wall. It goes either left or right, and I can make the arrows seem to move either left or right. It takes some mind power, but usually when I *toss* my eyes to the right, I can make the stream go right, and so on. Same thing with phone wires on lamp posts if you know what I mean. I realized I could make it look like the wires were sliding one way, really fast, and could change the direction myself. This reminds me of a question. In daylight, when I look towards a cloudy sky and such, or... even just somewhere else, I (and probably everybody?) can see small, small mini dots. Even here on the computer screen. They move at their own will though, and some dots are bigger than others. I assume it's just something that comes with our vision (contrasts and such), like a grainy film. But when I was a kid, I used to close my eyes at nights and pay attention to the small yellow and orange dots in my eyelids. They could be any color I wanted though. They would form into trains (many of the dots lined up after each other, into several "trains") and drifted around. |

We have done that at workshops, looking each other in the eyes focusing on the beauty of the other person's soul, and I often had that morphing experience. Not every few seconds, more after a while. I have always wondered about what that was (knowing that there can be many explanations, physical and spiritual ones).

Hmm... but when you close your eyes, you don't see one solid color entirely, right? Even if it's dark in the room, I see it grainy, with billions of small dots... of course, I only notice these things when I think about it, but when just staring at the sky in daytime, I often notice some bigger dots twirling about each other, and I've even mistaken them for mosquitos... if I don't notice them, I would if I got the idea. It's fun!
