Astral experiance? Vampire experiance? Does anyone know what it could be?

I had a strange experience. Years ago. I was livening in Tokyo. I have never had much astral or OB experiences. But I started reading the Carlos Castaneda books and met a kind of city shaman in London. I was getting in to it all and started following some of the meditations techniques we in those books. I have often had lucid dreams now and then, but for some reason these meditations seemed to open me up in some way. I had this other strange experience, which never felt like astral projection, as I have read about it, but something else but related ... I think. I donno.

it was like I woke up in a what ever room I was in, but in a slightly different realm, where I would see or feel or hear unusual things. The difference in my experience from what I have read about how astral projection happens, was that I could feel my body, but I couldn't move my body, I felt numbness and I was paralysed, also I could not move out from my body like in OB.
And every time I wanted to get back, it felt like I woke up 5 times, almost as I quickly, in a flash, had to wake up through 5 different realms before I got back to reality.
Sometimes it felt beautiful loads of light and warmth as I was lying in my bed, but two other times it was horrible. the last time it happen was the worst. And I never wanted to do it again after that.

I fell asleep as usual, with a thought that I wanted to enter this new state. That the only way I knew how to enter, and it sometimes worked and other times not. This time it worked after as I was falling asleep, and then I awoke in to this state.
But this time the room was really dark, and I felt the presence of dark energy... I felt it crawling along the floor toward me. I was paralysed ( as always in that state), I wanted to wake up but couldn't at first. I felt the dark energy coming closer, I heard sounds, hissing. Then I felt it creeping up the sides of my bed. And suddenly I felt this enormous pain in my chest, and also like I was being chocked. I had never felt enormous pain before in my life! I was terrified.

these experiences were very new to me, and it happened without much of my control, so I was shocked when I felt all this darkness that wanted to consume me. it also felt like it was more than one!
luckily I used all the concentration and mind power I had to wake up. and I managed.
After that I was scared of sleeping, and I stopped wanting to experience anything astral.

I wonder if there anyone here that would have any knowledge about what kind of state I could have been in?
I have now for the fist time read some threads on here about vampire encounters in the astral realm.... I'm thinking could it that? And some are saying that dark astral creatures feed on depression fear and negative energies... But I was always a very happy bunny at that time, a very positive girl... So why would they come to me?? But it happened in a hotel... Could it have been negative energy someone else left behind??

I've had sleep paralysis when things were in the room with me. The last couple of times I concentrated really hard on my hands, like I was about to slap the entity away, and it made me feel safe. I dont know why, it just did.
