feeling a presence

I'm wondering if someone can help explain this for me...I live in the basement of a relative's house. When I wake up at night to go to the bathroom, I have to go past the living room to get to the staircase. Every time I get near the living room, I go into panic mode and I feel like someone is standing there watching me, or following me when I turn my back. I end up running up the stairs two at a time, and once I get to the bathroom, I'm fine. But the same thing happens when I return to go back to the basement. Once I close that basement door, it feels like I'm not being followed anymore. My husband laughs at me because he can hear me running until I get to the basement! Is this a presence that I'm feeling or is it just paranoia? Please help. It's probably not good for my blood pressure lol.

Don't rule out the possible presence of electromagnetic energy waves in the air. Is there a curcuit breaker or some main wiring running thru the walls near the living room area where you get this feeling? If it is an older house, there is a chance that wires in the wall could be throwing out this energy and giving you these feelings on uneasiness.

I would make sure that there isn't a practical physical explaination for what you are experiencing, before allowing yourself to become more fearful than you already are. And if it is spirit, you really don't want to be fearful anyway..lest it be something negative that is there to feed off of that fear.

Yes, get an EMF detector and scan the walls, ceiling and floors in the area where you feel those sensations, or have an electrician do it. Where is the circuit breaker for the whole house? They're usually in a closet, but some are in the basement or even in a hallway. Junction boxes are notorious for putting off high electrical fields. A professional will know how to shield the affects, but at least if it's determined that you do have strong electrical fields, that knowledge can be a huge relief.

What is the lighting situation? Do you turn on the lights when you take this trek, or is it dark? Is the living room darker than the area through which you are walking toward the stairs, is the lighting the same in the living room, or is there more light in there when you walk by and feel a presence? Do you sense that whomever is right at the doorway or just somewhere in that room?

Is this the only time you experience this feeling?

The living room is darker than the hallway. I don't get the feeling during the day. The lights are off in the living room and the hallway is lit. And yes it does feel like whatever is there, is standing there watching me through the doorway and when I pass it feels like it follows me and it's right behind my back until I get to the next room.

Does this happen every time you walk this particular route at night, or only when you get out of bed and head for the restroom and no one else is up? How many times have you experienced this sequence of events in this particular house?

Remember back to your childhood and the different houses you lived in or spent the night in. Was there at least one other situation that was similar to this scenario, where you needed to walk by a dark room and you felt a similar anxiety of something or someone coming out of that room and following you? Even if it happened only a few other times when you were younger.

Yes, it happens every time the living room is dark....even if there are other people awake in other parts of house (excluding the living room). Back in my childhood, we lived in an old victorian house. My dad was renovating the upstairs bathroom, and all of a sudden left it unfinished. He's never told me why he stopped, but yes, I got the same feeling every time I walked past that bathroom door, even though it was kept closed at all times.

If not a physical cause (i.e. electrical, etc.).. then you may be aware of spiritual activity. I feel a presence in my house but luckily they are helpful souls that enjoy living with me. What you must first figure out is: do you feel a threatening presence or a welcoming presence? Even as you read that question, which one stands out most? And that will let you know if your fear is of the overall 'paranormal', or if it is a warning of danger.

Is your dad still available to ask that question now, as to why he stopped work and kept the door shut? If he won't answer that, then ask him if he saw something unusual, such as a ghost. Mention that you are researching something and you need the information and that it's okay for him to tell you now. If he refuses to answer, that's okay. I'm just trying to determine if the high anxiety you are experiencing is due to what I call a mini-movie scenario running in your mind that is triggered by particular events. This leads me to my next question that Love2Love asked:

Are you somewhat easily spooked by the unknown and the possible paranormal -- i.e. walking by a dark or closed room that may harbor something, or are you more apprehensive that the living room specifically may contain a dangerous element? Do you get the sense that this presence really wants to do you harm or simply wants you out of their house?

If you're willing to experiment, then try these next steps or mention why you don't want to try this:

The next time you need to walk by the dark living room, turn into the entrance and take one step into the room while saying in a calm and even friendly voice, "Can I help you?" Be aware of not only your own emotions as you do this but also be aware of any resulting sounds or movements. I know this requires you to step out of your comfort zone, but it will be a good test. If you feel any aggressive approach by this presence, simply raise your hand and say, "Okay, I won't bother you" and step backward out of the room and continue on your way as calmly as possible. Do you still feel a presence following you?

After trying the above steps, even if you feel less anxious subsequent times, do you still feel the same thing happening, that there's something near the doorway and it follows you as you pass by?

If your anxiousness is over the top and you cannot step into the room due to being too panicked, then definitely don't stress yourself but please be careful as you run up those stairs! In any case, we can try a simple interrupt technique I developed that could have remarkable results if you're willing to try it.

No Maxwell, my dad is not around anymore. Though it causes more anxiety, I will try the steps that you outlined about entering the room in the dark. As of now I don't even like to make eye contact in the room.

And to answer your post, Love2love, it feels like a threatening presence in the room. I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but I visualize this presence as an evil woman.

Well, if everything in this universe is energy then distance doesn't make any difference. Quantum Physics explains such things.
