Hypnogogic Auditory Hallucinations/Voices

Similar threads to this have been posted before, but I can't find them, so forgive me for posting another.

When I'm falling asleep, but not quite at the sleep stage (known as 'hypnogogic' when falling into sleep and 'hypnopompic' when waking from sleep), I begin to hear voices.

They're not especially loud, but similar to what you might hear of a group of people talking in the next room from you. Mostly they say things that don't seem to make a lot of sense. They don't scare me because they are not threatening, but they just make no sense at all. And I wonder what the meaning of these voices is.

My understanding is that these voices are from those in the spiritual dimensions, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Does anyone have any better idea what they are, or can anyone share with me their experiences of this apparently common phenomenon?

I am sure you will get good advice here, but I feel compelled to comment on this:

Your thread title says "hallucinations".

Hallucinating means what you hear or see is not real. It is a sign of illness.

Actually hearing and seeing spirit guides, angels, or other non-physical beings isn't hallucinating.

I referred to them as 'hallucinations' not because I doubted their reality, but because someone who had experienced them a lot (Emanuel Swedenborg) had referred to them as hallucinations. It's true that the term is misleading, but in a sense, hallucinations are kind of real. If they are happening, then they have some realness to them.

We say 'hallucinations' because we think we can make a distinction between real and unreal, but we actually can't.

Anyway, I didn't mean to refer to them as 'hallucinations' meaning they weren't real - I do believe they are real.

In fact, I'll change the name of the thread...

Well getting off the topic here (unfortunately I don't have an answer to your intriguing question, anyone else out there have one??).

How about incredible music? Like angelic choirs and music more beautiful than anything you could ever hear here even in the most spazzy of opera halls?

The divine music sounds...divine, but unfortunately it is not something I have heard when falling asleep. I only hear voices.

It's funny you should mention music, because some people who have had near death experiences report hearing this music. It's interesting.

Hi! Well I've only had the privilege of hearing this amazing music maybe 2 or at the most 3 times in all my life. It is unfathomable. What I mean is you know when you hear an earthly symphony or whatever you try to figure out what makes it, like when you taste some food you try to figure out what ingredients it has. And with earthly music you can usually figure something out. But this divine music is in-imi-table. It is sooooooooo pure like it was sung in a very pure cathedral with really high acoustics or something.

For me much more common than music was just hearing, well of course the voices but those never scared me, I thought I was just listening to my classmates talking hehe. (They were each in their own homes but that didn't faze me!) What DID scare me was when people screamed, anyone hear that? Sometimes they scream very loud, they even wake you up with their screaming. And sometimes it sounds like a loud explosion like a gunshot type of thing. But no one else hears it. It doesn't come from the street it's like in the air of the room.

Or when they wake me up by shouting my name. But when I ask who it is no one answers me. Oooh woo woo!

Oh I guess I should add we lived in the country so no loud traffic on the streets, no madmen running around with guns and rifles!

This might be what I refer to as the 24/7 dream state in that I think the dream state is happening for us all the time, not just during REM sleep. You might be simply entering into a dream already in progress. The subconscious aspect of our minds has access to numerous dreams and can run these 'movies' and 'sound' files parallel to each other, so from a certain perspective, you can pick up on all running dream scenarios at the same time until you settle into one.
