Howdy! The other day i had an interesting experience that i'm curious about. It was after a long weekend, on a sunday, and i was a passenger in a car with friends getting driven home. Everybody was tired from a weekend of partying and it was a long drive home, so i got comfortable with a blanket and pillow and attempted to nod off to sleep while we drove. Probably an important thing to note is that i didn't have much sleep the night before, and i smoked some weed just before we left for the drive, and the music we were listening to in the car was that band called "Air", so you could say my mind was very still, calm and quietened. Also, it should also be noted that when i say i smoked some weed, it wasn't a large consumption at all (as it was shared with 5 or so other people) What happened was, when i lay my head down and closed my eyes for a while, i started seeing "hallucinations" while my eyes were closed. It was really really vivid and felt very real. It was nothing overly bizarre. It was mainly of people moving around and talking and stuff (i heard no sound). I think i remember some strange shape-shifting facial features and stuff, but i'm not sure. I can't remember a lot of specifics, but i remember thinking how the images felt more than just imagination, because of how real they looked. It was like a holograph. And when i would open my eyes, to stop and think about what i'm seeing, the images would go away, but i could just close my eyes again and the images would come back. Different people would come up etc. I remember trying to sense whether there was anything significant about the particular visions i was seeing, but couldn't sense any kind of message or whatever. It was just really vivid looking visions. Anyway, has this happened to anyone else? Or does anybody have any clues as to what this could be? Is it something? Or is it nothing? |

It sounds like hypnagogic imagery. That is, very vivid imagery that comes between waking and sleep. I've had these quite often and recently asked other people in a thread here about their experiences. With practice I've been able to initiate them more regularly. They come most easily for me when I've woken up early and want to sleep again. If I can almost fall asleep, but just manage to stay awake they come quite quickly.

That's been happening to me for years; as far back as I can remember. When I was a kid I called it "watching TV" in my head. I have no clue what it is. I've always just blew it off as an active visual imagination. I also dream in really vivid colors. I had a dream about one of my boats just this morning, and the blue color was just as blue as blue could be. The shade was identical too, which I find fascinating; that our minds can reproduce, or create images with such detail and clarity. I've also dreamed very detailed situations and outcomes that have nothing whatsoever to do with any reality that I'm aware of. It's amazing; like you figure out an entire story and all of the charcters before it's even started and then just sit back and watch it all play out in perfect detail. I also do have a photographic memory to a degree, but not as much as I used to. I wonder if the two are connected?? Maybe some people just perceive and/or remember things more visually than others. |

| I don't think the two are connected. I usually have no mental imagery, or at best a patchy black & white one. I'm probably the furthest away anyone can get from having a photographic memory. But when I have these images I see the most intense images and colors.
