I used to hear music in my head constantly. It wasn't always like that; it happened on and off throughout my life. Most recently it started happening two months ago, but instead of going away like normal the music got louder as time went on and it became much harder to concentrate. I concluded it was an unconscious attempt to distract myself from something, so I devised ways to make sure I'd process information even when I couldn't focus, and I took up meditation. The result is that I still hear music in my mind, but it's much quieter. It feels like it sets the mood rather than steals my attention. Before I couldn't alter the sound, drown it out, or silence it. Now I can make certain parts of the song (whatever it is at the time) repeat itself, I can remove the vocals, I can change the volume, and sometimes I can shut it off altogether. As I get more proficient at this, I'm hearing more and more nonsense noise. What I mean by nonsense is that it sounds like clearly audible gibberish coming from the left, behind me. (I should note that every time I hear music I feel like it's coming from the back of my head or the back and to the side.) With the work I've been doing recently, I'm wondering if it isn't a subtle phenomenon. I haven't concluded that it is, but I seem quite healthy. I don't know of anything that would specifically cause it. I know the music was my subconscious' attempt to prevent me from dealing with key emotional issues; I set the defenses in place a long time ago out of a desire to escape my problems. One of those issues was fear, and part of that fear was of manifesting my own power (empowerment, not psychic abilities) and, as a result, perceiving subtle phenomena. (Being spiritually minded, to claim my power is to step into realms I've never dared to go.) It's quite likely that I programmed my mind to turn up the volume whenever I came close to hearing information from non-incarnate entities. If that is the case, does anyone have tips for how I can confirm that's what it is, and how I could accurately perceive what's being said instead of hearing it as gibberish? It's clear the process is natural; I've definitely gotten clear information from sources not-myself before (I didn't hear it; it came to me as though I thought it), I just want to know if there's any way I can consciously streamline the process and invite/dissuade feedback at will. Thanks in advance. |

I'm curious to hear what others may think. I'm curious because I usually have something musical playing in my mind 50 % of my waking time. It's not that I actually hear it so much as the lyric might run through my head over and over, or the tune, or I can't stop singing it. What I hear in my mind is like I am creating it in my mind, not like I am hearing something created by anything or anybody else. What you describe seems like it is coming from outside of you? Or do I misunderstand? Quote:
