Does reiki really work?

This accords so well with my own experience. I did not know or expect, when I got my Reiki attunement, that in that hour I was going to experience "healing some old wounds", as Garentee puts is in this quoted post. But that is very definitely what one of the effects was. The Reiki master who taught me did, for me, what he called "a healing attunement" - sitting apart from me for 1/2 hour projecting healing energy to me, then spending an amount of time doing the actual attunement process on me.

The amount of 'old wound' stuff inside me that got resolved was HUGE !

Unlike what some people have said in this thread, I did not get a physical illness or discomfort feeling immediately following this process - though, in the years since, I've felt my body continuing to clean and adjust itself.

I also agree with Garentee who says that Reiki healing sessions (or even Reiki attunements) are just one tool - though a very good one. For me, there are other aspects of my spiritual path, aspects that are also very useful & important to me.

For example, if enough people pray to and imagine the Virgin Mary in a particular form, then an egregore will be created and she will appear in that form. Even with the power to work miracles. It's interesting that in Mexico, when the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared, she did so on the site of an ancient Aztec temple to a powerful goddess.

Then again, I also think that real and independent spiritual forces such as angels can make use of egregores to appear in a familiar form.

P.S. Just as well you didn't read "The Possibility of Everything" just yet or you would have called me on forgetting that the sick child was a girl instead of a boy ;-)

Sure, in those cases it would not be the placebo effect.

I was speaking specifically in relation to reverend Keiths mention of the way most of these homeopathic remedies are born in the soulless factories, and, in these cases of people who simply buy the product without any real knowledge of the plants or the healing benefits, but just on recommendation from someone else, that it can be sufficient enough to at least make them think it is helping...which can help, I have no problem with this either...it's hard to tell either way!

I'm not sure everything about energy work in this can be summarized with the placebo effect. Certainly it can be part of the mix. But if it were all placebo, I would expect no response from people who are unconscious, or animals, or people who don't believe in any energy work at all. Since this has not been the case (in my experience, anyway), I don't think it is all power of suggestion. Something is occurring even if the mind does not understand yet.

Oh well, whatever is fine...I'm a pragmatist. Even if it is all in the mind and it helps folks, that's fine with me.

I am a reiki master in alot of different systems. I am a regular usui master, Kundalini reiki master, Shamballa MDH healer, White Light master Purple reiki, Tachyon and so many more. Reiki is great . I like Shamballa alot too. Hey I can give you guys reiki attunements if you want. Just tell me what system. I have alot of Ole Gabrielsens stuff too

Interesting. I've only been attuned within the original Usui Reiki system.

With Usui Reiki, I found that the energy has great power for untangling or dissolving old, buried emotional issues - conflicts, hurts, dark influences from childhood, old frustrations, and the like. While I've found through experience that these sorts of buried rot-pockets can cause physical maladies - and that Reiki can clear them up, often fairly quickly - I have not found that Usui Reiki is remarkably effective at direct physical therapy.

In other words, you smash your toes and applying Usui Reiki may relieve the pain, but probably will not fix the direct mechanical damage. Only occasionally do I hear of Usui Reiki clearing up a physical infection or normalizing a problematic internal organ... though I'm not saying it never occurs. (Besides which, emotional and other aspects of inner healing are extremely important and valuable in themselves.)

So I'm wondering, kidkarma, have you found any of the other forms of Reiki to work in a really effective way at direct physical healing?

Im not really sure. Pulse reiki and Shamballa may help
