When I was 11-13, (Almost 16 now) I had a short but strange experience that could almost be sleep paralysis, but it didn't feel as intense, so I don't know. It was one of those times when I didn't like sleeping, so I tried to stay up all night, and it was like 3-4 in the morning. Well, I was laying in bed with my eyes shut. Then I decided to get up to watch TV, but I couldn't. It felt like someone was pushing me down. At first I thought it was my dad or something who caught me in my room still awake and was trying to scare me. So I tried to make a sound to tell him to stop, but I couldn't make a sound. Then a few seconds later, I got up and saw that no one was there... That was when I thought that my lack was sleep was affecting me, so I just went to sleep (in my parents' room.) =P So was this sleep paralysis? And also, is sleep paralysis paranormal? I don't generally believe in the "paranormal" part of sleep paralysis, I always thought it was something to do with your body still being asleep while your mind was awake...Idk. |

Yes, this was a form of sleep paralysis. I personally believe there can be a paranormal aspect to SP, but not always. I believe you open a doorway when you're in this state, and sometimes things come through and sometimes you're just paralyzed and nothing is around you. Look up hypnogogic hallucinations for more info. |

During sleep paralysis some people feel the presence of other entities, like someone is in the room where they sleep. Or as you described, you feel that someone is pushing you down. I also get frequent sleep paralysis, but I got used to that now and I am not scared when this happens. The strange thing is, I never feel anyone else in my room. I just think it is my energy circling through me and blocking my movements. |
