Are Spirit Guides Real? How Can I Contact Them?

So far I accept that Lucid Dreaming and Astral Projection are real... so far

Anyway, I heard a lot about this so called "guardians" that is supposed to be assigned by my "higher self". I don't think I'll accept "higher self" for now, but I'm open to the possibility of these... "guardians" or guides, like all of you prefer to call them.
Even if I get "advices" from them, I don't need to follow them blindly, am I right?
But then, how can I differentiate their "advices" and my imaginations?
How do they look like? Can they materialize themselves before me? Can they speak English? Do they have gender? Can I win lottery though them?
What can they tell me about my life?
Why must I be assigned with Guides in the first place?

If I die, can I become a Guide myself? :D Must be really fun! Spying on people and such ;).

P.S. If you're wondering why I reject the notion there exist a higher self and blindly following guide's guidance, is because, I hate the idea of something else is in control of my life (yep, it's a line from the Matrix)

Have you already read my article on connecting to your spirit guides and higher self? I've written extensively about both. But I'll also answer these here now.

1. Guides can see what's around the bend in your river. Listening to them can help you decide if that's where you really want to row. They will never remove your free will. You're free to go over the falls if that's the experience you want to have. They'll be waiting at the bottom holding a towel.

2. Spirit guides are energetic beings with no physical form. They present physically so we can differentiate their energies better. You won't see them with your physical eyes. You'll see them with your mind's eye. They have distinct personalities. get to know them.

3. When you die you could technically be asked to become a guide but that would depend on someone's higher self asking you to "be on the team" so to speak. What are your qualifications to guide someone?

4. Guides won't help you win the lottery. that's like using cheat codes in a video game. What would you learn from that? The people who do win lotteries have lessons to learn such that winning the lottery is the best way for them to learn those lessons. If you want riches, become a vibrational match for wealth.

5. your higher self doesn't control you. Your higher self watches you with great compassion while you step in the mud, go over the falls, trip, and get gum in your hair.

6. you're assigned guides so you have someone available to point the way when you are lost. Think of them like a road map. you don't have to stop and ask for directions, but if you need to, they're there.

7. Differentiating the voices in your mind takes practice and trial and error. Read this:

Truth be told Erin, I've never visited your website before, not really that interested in "spirituality" after I remove myself from Islam. Besides, this is www.stevepavlina.com/forums

But, nice answers... though I still have doubts. Maybe time will clear it.

Erin Pavlina 04-12-2009 07:56 PM

Why did you ask the question if you aren't interested in the answer?

Time won't clear it up. Open yourself up to the ideas and explore them actively. That will clear up your doubts. :)

And these are just as much my forums as Steve's. We combined them to keep them all in one place.

Rejecting your higher-self.. is in essence rejecting yourself.. and even rejecting your guides.. and guess what you’re free to do that.. the universe loves you so much your free not to feel love at all.. (hey, lots of people are doing it.. welcome to the club)

You ever think that the reason we have ideas like the matrix, computers, simulations, holodecks, games, some famous greek guy.. ohh ♥♥♥♥♥ I can go on and on with dozens upon dozens of ideas that are all about a illusion of reality for someone.. cause they might be true?

I'm not going to tell you to change "lemuria" only you can choose to do that.. I'm just going to do exactly what erin did in a different way and that's mention “hey there's another idea/option to explore..” explore if want too, if not.. not.. good luck to you.. wish you well..

I will go ahead and answer your questions directly since erin didn't.. exactly.. (bare in mind my answer may be para-phrased from my teachers own works)

Even if I get "advices" from them, I don't need to follow them blindly, am I right?
Of course not.. free choice, free will reigns supreme.. plenty never hit the intentions they have set for here..

But then, how can I differentiate their "advices" and my imaginations?
It's tough I'm just starting to communicate but.. I think I can now recognize thoughts that are via them now..

The best easiest thing to do is for now listen to your gut intuition.. because as erin said somewhat well in her posts.. they offer guidance/thoughts and there's is usually the stronger feel better type in most cases..

Also understand that they are active in your life via synchronicities.. anytime something is pointed out to you.. (it's them) like 11:11 on clock or a dozen other ways it's them saying.. "hi"

How do they look like?
Why do you need a representation.. guides are meant to run in the background of your life.. not the forefront.. they are there to direct you to things you chose before coming.. or things you have chosen since you arrived..

I would imagine them as pure beings of white light to start.. (though as erin suggests they may not be that pure) than maybe move on to forms later..

Can they materialize themselves before me?
Yes, you would probably need to allow a miracle though..

Can they speak English?Do they have gender? Can I win lottery though them? Skipping these 3 for now..

What can they tell me about my life?
Everything.. their.. there to direct..

Why must I be assigned with Guides in the first place?I would look at guides as experts in certain fields.. you automatically get a minimum of 1.. and some come and go.. but the idea is if you have a specialized idea.. you get a specialized guide for that idea.. (sorry not going to through a example out)

The other reason we get guides.. and this is basic.. is when we come here we have a blueprint for a life.. many of us never meet that.. but that is what we have..

"Why did you ask the question if I'm not interested in the answers?"
I dunno. Just come into my mind while surfing.

ok.. about that 11:11 thing (2:22, 3:33)... Ok... I must say I'm surprised... they are always there whenever I'm doing some things that i don't originally planned/ doing stuffs that I know is only wasting my time/ or avoidance behaviour/ or just bored.
So, you're suggesting that these events occurred because of these invisible entity? ... :rolleyes:You can explain anything with the existence of some invisible entities... fine, I'll give it a try.

As for their appearances. Who knows, maybe they dressed up like a knight in shining armor, or an archer, or a ninja.
Hey, if I become a Guide, I might choose to appear as a dashing samurai.:D

But many things... I am still confused. With this new age spiritual belief. Even Subjective Reality is not all this weird. Too much, why? why? why? why? inside my mind.

themaster 04-13-2009 03:17 PM

The ego always wants to know why.. the ego is a bit of a fear based entity.. when you really examine yourself.. you realize that even though you say you’re not living in fear.. the ego has you living a fearful life..

Here's what I and likely your guides are telling you.. take it easy.. take 1 day at a time.. live your life for fun and adventure and passion and positive things and don't get down on yourself ever with negative.. love yourself.. and create and please yourself.. your only mission here is to "be yourself"

If you like to read/learn some more.. some of my teachers are "abraham" and "bashar" feel free to investigate what they have to say or not..

After reading some of Erin's articles and threads about this, last week I meditated for about 15 minutes to clear my mind. Then I asked for guidance from my guides, and made some requests like getting a higher vibration. I heard someone say her name was something that sounded like "Ginny," so that's who I call to now.

I've noticed that it makes a difference to make a specific request for guidance. For instance, yesterday I left the house in a hurry, and I was worried that I may have left some appliances on and/or the door unlocked (in weak moments I revert to obsessive-compulsive thoughts).

I thought, "Ginny, did I turn everything off and lock the door? Is everything okay at home?" The response I got was something like, "All systems are go" (sometimes the words aren't clear, or the thoughts aren't exactly in word form—it's hard to explain). Even so, I thought that maybe I should turn around at the light and go home to be sure.

Then as I drove down the street, the light that usually takes a long time to change was green! There was no reason for it to be green—no other cars were there, and no one had pressed the button to cross the street. I laughed and drove off, and when I came home, everything WAS fine.

Early this morning I wanted to meditate for 15 minutes, but I didn't feel like setting an alarm (and I needed to do something after that time was up). I asked for a sign to let me know when 15 minutes were up.

I was almost asleep when there was a loud sound, almost like an earthquake without any actual physical sensation accompanying it. My dog even growled and barked! I looked at the clock, and sure enough, 15 minutes had passed.

lemuria 04-14-2009 06:01 AM

OK... I've read some of Erin's articles on spirit guides... Yeah, maybe I just don't notice them.

Anyway, it seem that I can name my own Guides! Awesome!! Are you looking at this "Napoleon Bonaparte"? Or should I call you "Miyamoto Musashi"? "Gilgamesh" sound nice too.

Apart from that... I've also listened to podcast #21... wtf...
Ok... so we all come from this "love source", and our Guides are here to guide us onto a path of love and passion?
OK... like religion, I'm gonna ask this simple question. "Where does evil come?"
Are our Guides not strong enough to prevent Alexander from conquering, or to prevent Hitler, or Stalin? They sound like those with a strong concioussness.
If in the context of subjective reality, I can easily say that they never truly existed.

Erin Pavlina 04-14-2009 05:46 PM

Men are not evil, though sometimes they choose to commit acts that we as a species DEFINE as evil. Be careful how you throw around the word "evil."

Our guides are not here to put a stop to people who choose to commit acts that we define as evil. We have free will. We just have to accept the consequences of our actions. Guides are not here to chew your gum or tie your shoes for you. Does a parent forever carry aroudn the child who falls the first time while trying to learn to walk? Does a parent constantly feed their child with a spoon because the first time they try they get more food on the floor than in their mouth?

We are responsible for our own actions. So be careful how you choose to act.

Evil comes from us.. it doesn't exist without us acting it out.. and there is no punishment for carrying it out.. unlike some of the religions in the world which teach us this is so..

You know there is somewhat of a lot of talk here (here = u.s.) about the concept of "hell" and how bad it is.. but the funny thing is the only "hell" there is.. is here.. because where we come from is a much broader perspective than what we see here..

lemuria.. listen to your own guidance and only trust information your resonate with.. you’re trying to combine ideas that may be contradictory for you at this time.. I highly suggest living more life and less intellectualizing of everything.. does a cat or a bird or a animal not know there place in life?

the answer is = yes they do..

Do children find happiness in the simplest of things? the answer is yes they do..

I think its also important to note that you have autonomy in your own life/space (space defined as spirit/aura/body and lifetime) and that while you may have guides hanging around, you have seniority over them in your space. You can end, change or create new agreements with guides at any time.

Just because you've got a guide hanging around trying to give you advice from like, 10 lifetimes ago, doesn't mean that the agreement you have with them is in present time; that particular guide might be operating on information appropriate for 10th century France - but if it has not experienced life in a body in the 21st century, it might not have the appropriate information.

Just because an entity is in the spirit realm doesn't necessarily mean that it "knows" more than you do. Its just at a different place in it growth.

As Erin and others have said, its trial and error and active engagement. You can cultivate very in-depth, useful relationships with your guides. But it takes time and openness.

SilverWolf 04-20-2009 06:59 PM

if our higher self doesnt control us then is it a completely seperate entity? What is the difference between higher self and guides?
In what way are we similar to our higher self?

Erin Pavlina 04-20-2009 11:33 PM

You are a projection of your higher self. A subset really.

Spirit guides are other conscious beings having human experiences like you. But they are not you. HS is you. or you are HS, however you want to look at it.

As I understand it, your higher self is the sum total of more than just your current life.

SilverWolf 04-21-2009 07:40 PM

ok thanks guys for clearing that up for me :)
