Disillusioned on Angels
 

I've always blindly just believed in angels without needing any proof. But now that i'm into learning about this stuff,i'm starting to become skeptical,or dillusioned.

I just read one of Doreen Virtue's angel books (I forget the exact title and now i lent it to someone) and it all sounds interesting and cool and all that,but to me it feels kinda like The Law of Attraction,how if it isnt working for you,the answer is you're just doing it wrong. And i don't like that answer. That's just a cop out.

For example,it says to use crystals,breathe,and mentally ask your angels for guidance/messages,whatever. So i did that the last 3 nights in a row,and i had bad dreams,and recieved no messages or guidance about the question i asked. So it just takes practice then? Just having blind faith and an open mind isn't enough? In the book she says you "should" feel an "immediate" reaction.

And my biggest question is: Bad things happen to people ALL the time,so why didn't their Angels help them then? I just can't believe that Angels are there to protect us,when clearly people are getting killed or hurt every day. And i know that life isn't perfect and accidents will happen,but then the Angels aren't needed then,if these things are supposed to happen to us.

The whole idea of something being there to help us kinda loses it's meaning for me when it only helps some people some of the time.

Does anyone have a better answer for me other than "Well you just have to believe harder!"?

I am the opposite from you. I didn't believe in angels at all. Then I met Doreen, and during her workshop I felt them, got messages from them, all kinds of things. Then I started seeing angels during my readings... not all readings, usually only when someone was in deep emotional crisis, suicidal, or sometimes I see angels holding babies (on their way in or out).

As for asking for messages... I think sometimes you have to be patient. I wouldn't expect an immediate reaction if you're closed in some way. But you have to plug in. Imagine it this way... what if you tune your radio to the right station and you have the volume knob turned way up but you still hear nothing. Check the plug. Maybe you're not plugged in.

Messages come in many forms. Bad dreams are usually messages becuase it sometimes takes a bad dream to get your attention if you're not used to remembering your dreams.

I wouldn't throw the angels out just becuase you don't feel them. Keep working at it.

Thanks for replying Erin! :) I will keep practicing and trying,i was just under the impression that changes will happen immediately (according to some things Doreen says in her book). But i'm glad you like her,that helps me to trust her too.

I have read your blogs about how to hear messages from your Angels too,i think i have the problem where i spend more time reading than i do actually practicing the stuff i read,and i'm sure that doesn't help! It would just be nice if i was given SOMETHING to keep me going. When i asked to be shown a path to take regarding my career,i got a dream where a girl store my purse and i was really upset i lost my cellphone :D So i felt like,ugh,well that doesn't answer my question!

How do you distinguish an angel from an other other-worldly entity? Wings? :p

I have wondered this for a long time when reading or hearing someone has seen or communicated with angels. How specifically do you know it's an angel? We don't have "World of Spirits 101" or undergraduate courses to educate us definitively in the variety of "races" of spiritual beings.

Angels appear as white light beings to me. They are filled with light. They have less form than when I see spirit guides or higher selves. Their energy is beautiful, and otherwordly. Spirit guides feel more personable to me, in other words, they have more personality, quirks, identities. Angels have essence.

do angels for you tend to have a 'tail' that tapers their essence at the bottom? that's what i've noticed.. if they're just travelling or something...
but they definitely don't have feet right? just some sort of 'gown'?

Yeah I don't see feet. When I'm tuned in to their energy it's just luminescence and emotions and energy, with maybe a sense of white flowing light.

however, when I imagine them, they are more formed. So that's interesting... My imagination wants to make them look like people, but when I see them clairvoyantly they are energy.

Would the concept of Angels be useful for some who is more towards the Darkworker end of the spectrum Erin?

I here all this talk about love and light, and I wonder, is the sort of love and light they give off wholly antithetical to Darkworkers? or do Darkworkers have Dark-Angels?

I think angels are helpful to everyone as long as those people are not evil or demonic. Angels give a lot of emotional support and healing. If a darkwoker needed comfort, I'm sure the angels would be there for him. :)

I was reading in another thread that angels and spirit guides should not be trusted ,because like humans, they may try to deceive you and guide you to the wrong path.

I was reading in one of the forums that people should not listen to what angels and spirit guides tell you because they can be evil. Instead, we should test them to see if they are really on our side to steer us in the right path.

i don't believe angels or spirit guides are evil.

If you're getting negative vibes from an unearthly being then it's probably something other than guides or angels.

Someone out there always says that.. it's a fear sell and as Erin points out guides should be inner-self approved..

i was having a really hard time connecting to my spirit guide and i wanted to do it so badly!!!

i would see him a couple times in my dreams but i never could be lucid enough to ask for him.
so i went to this shaman journeying session in my city and the very first one i met him! it was so relieving! and its nice to get to know them too. so maybe look into one of those in your area.. and usually they're not expensive at all.. can be as cheap as $10!

I wonder if this story might help you as I've been having similar problems to you.

I was getting really angry at not being able to connect with my spirit guide on Tuesday. I have been meditating for weeks now, trying to clear my mind and connect with my guide and it just aint happening!

On Tuesday I wanted some guidance from my guide about some big life questions. I wrote down 6 options to consider, and thought that option 2 was the best one for me logically, but then I started to doubt myself.

I got really angry and I think at one point I said out loud,

'What's the effing* point of having a spirit guide if I can't hear you?'

*I'm not sure you're supposed to swear at your guides but I had lost it!


Anyway within half an hour I had a phonecall from a stranger asking me about 'option 2' and if I could help her. Then a friend called and asked about Option 2 and we could set a date for me to talk to her about it. Then another friend called and asked if she could pop round to borrow a CD I own that is about Option 2.

Just as I was going to bed I suddenly realised that these three phonecalls in such quick succession were a message! OK I didn't hear voices in my ears, but the message came through crystal clear.

Sometimes the message come through in a way you don't expect it.

Wow that is amazing!!! See thats the kind of results i want,but i never get wierd coincidences like that. I did have what i think might be help from my angels (see my newest post in this section about that) but it still wasnt as obvious as your situation. Maybe i should swear next time :D

I am a lot like you in that I try stuff and dont feel anything. The thing Ive learned is that everyone is different. Some people are just naturally more phychic and can sense things much more easily. Peple make the mistake of thinking that what works for them will work for everyone else in exaxctly the same way. But I have slowly become more sensitive to things. It takes time to develop your skills if you are not naturally phsychic. But I did decide to banish doubt and unbeleif using a ritual which really helped. I also anoint my forehead with frankincense which is good for activating the 3rd eye (for me anyway.) So it will take time for you to develop-beleive me, Ive been there!
Why dont you try using angel cards? They work whether you are phsychic or not. You need to do some protective rituals and first just to keep the nasties away. I always connect myself to God and then channel his energy while I am shuffling them and then pick one out. Use a deck which is relevant to the type of questions youre asking i.e. it should have the type of cards which can be used as answers to the type of question you are asking.
You can ask angels as well but it is important to protect yourself as Ive heard stories of bad spirits guiding people.
As for bad things happening, Im still pondering on that one myself!!

Just replied to your other post. Yes those first contacts are so tentative and gentle that they are easy to misinterpret. I mean I could have easily just assumed those phone calls were a coincidence.

Don't give up.
