Measuring Your Psychic Powers

If you want to become more proficient in any psi skill, having a way to measure your improvement can be very useful.

My intention with this thread would be for us to collect any tips we might have for our fellow practitioners for how to do so.

I'll start with the following link:

It's a website with a Zener Card test (it requires Java). It also gives you the statistical probability of your result occuring by chance. (My recent test gave me a 1 in 3119 score).

I believe in psychic abilities, but I don't believe this accurately tests them. After my first try at using the applet, where I got to a score of 1 in over 1,000,000, I decided to do some testing to make sure the "randomness" involved in this test was legitimate. I decided a static arrangement of buttons to pick ahead of time and did four 25-try tests in a row.

pick the same item every time: 6 out of 25
start with circle and move right three items every time, wrapping around at the ends: 13 out of 25
start with star and move left two items every time, wrapping around at the ends: 11 out of 25
alternate between star and wave: 12 out of 25

Now I reloaded the page (and therefore the program) before the first test, but not in-between tests. So all the static arrangements should have about the same results, which should be reasonably close to 5 out of 25, the most probable set of results. Here, only the first 25 tries satisfy that criteria. Why?

Well, first of all, being experienced in programming I know that a computer can make a choice among five items in an instant (or among 65,536 items for that matter). So it doesn't take a whole second for the program to make its pick. So it's probably picking its item an instant after you pick yours. Then the question is, does it pick randomly or does it cheat?

Probably a little bit of both. It would be too transparent to the user if it always picked the same card as the user, so it probably is simply biased toward picking the same card, and more and more often as more tries are made. Thus at first the selection seems random, as you are supposed to be "inexperienced" but then you seem to get "better at it" as you pick more and more right answers.

There's one hole in my theory: I tried not to "expect" any certain outcome when I was doing the testing, but maybe I slipped up and caused the exact results that I wanted to see through my thoughts/intentions. So if someone would be interested in doing the same or a similar set of tests (please use at least 100 tries, though), it would do a lot to confirm whether the program really is biased or whether I caused it to appear so by my thoughts.

I just did a quick run of 100 tries, just selecting circle.
I got 22 hits of 100, which seems reasonable. Most of the hits came before the 50th try, though, which seems fishy. However, I must admit I cannot say that I did not intend it to be otherwise.
If you want to use this applet, use at least 100 tries, preferably more.

Also, you can use more ordinary methods instead, like trying to predict the outcomes of dice in a cup, this should be more reliable (assuming the dice aren't weighted.)

Anyone have any other tips?

I got 14 in 50 trys uses the random Function of my Pocket Calculator.

I think the program doesn't really cheat, it doesn't let the choice of the user influence the outcome of the choice of the computer choice.

But the generator for random number doesn't seem to be really random. Going three to the right gives you a above average result each time.

Their seems to be a complex algorithmus that produces the numbers. Because their are patterns in the number creation your brain can pick those patterns up.

Therefore the test does test intution. You get a sequence of numbers and you have to guess the next. The numbers aren't random but follow a pattern.

Well, it looks like toomuchtoabsorb's and Brutha's tests have shot down a good portion of my theory, but it sounds like the tests are not completely random. Whether the trainer is still useful for testing intuition is up for debate, I think--yes, you can intuit the next item, but is that psychic ability or just pattern recognition? Not knowing too much about psychics, I wonder how much of a difference they would say there is between the two.

I think I'll point out that since this program is hosted on an online games site, so I doubt it's meant to be taken too seriously as a psychic trainer. Even the description of the game on the front page says, "Develop your ability to read your computer's mind. Perhaps."

The easiest way to see how the program works is to download it, and decompile it. Java is pretty easy to decompile, and there are programs out there that easily get the job done.

I personally have no desire to do this, though some of the more curious members might consider it.

The other thing about this is that you are trying to guess what the computer is "thinking"...to me it's useless to try to get images and vibes from a machine-- now when it is a human being who is holding the image in their mind, that's a different story.

Hmmm there are much better ways to test your psychic powers..

Take a deck of cards, and play the 'black, red' game or make up some game. Lay out a deck of cards for example and put a card in your mind and move your hand above them and try to pick the right one.

Use your imagination. It can only be done via electronics such as this program if you are very experienced.

I've made my own program based on a preshuffled card deck and get results very similar when I concentrate on what I wish to come out.

You can try it at: PSI learner.

I did a lot of tests with pattern expectation with random data and to my opinion, the only time a pattern is consistent is when there is PSI involved.

to forecast dices is understanding luck...if you succeed that is.

sure it can be done, luck is just one of those prime forces that you can tap into or ask to use, or use, or use from within you.

your source of creation within yourself can be used to do so.

if you want a training of understanding, rather then guessing how many times you`ll get a card or dice right, then why not just read a lot about things and learn to understand them.

once you understand something, you can use it.

all you need to do is find out what you would like to learn to understand and use.

once you figure that out, then you can get to work on it.

i do it with energy based attacks, i form and manipulate my energy, i give it meaning, i give it purpose because i understand meaning and purpose.
and then i use it.

you can form your ethereal energy to whatever you want, you are the master of y6our body and energy, you are the master of your whole existance.
once you understand that other things from within yourself will unlock itself and share it`s power or knowledge with you as the master.

Whatever happened to a regular deck of cards? Besides, it's not that difficult to read them when you can apply your hands to them. I don't see how you can accurately test your PSI with a computer program that randomizes cards. The computer doesn't "think" of a card, or color, or shape. It only "sees" 1's and 0's. If you have the ability to read a huge string of data to determine the card, then you are basically Keano in the matrix. So, I honestly think anyone doing better than 50 percent was only lucky. Besides, how can you meditate and get yourself into a relaxed state to get the PSI thing going when you're sitting next to a machine omiting high frequencies and staring at a screen that is puslating at 60 to 75 hz? Kind of negates the whole idea of your own PSI.

Took me to about 25 before I figured out how to visualize what shape was behind the door without trying to use my mind to "guess" what the computer was going to pick.

because of the possibillity of it`s data being authentic, or just true.

not all that is deemed funny is a lie, sure some ideas might get you started, others not at all.

it depends really, pick one.
but since it was about measuring.

i can`t measure that well but i normally use density, effect, quantity, intent, as guides to define somewhat that wich is used such as energy.

others have eyes that can see, so they measure with those tools, but hey not all of em are totally accurate.
