I am just curious as to whether anyone here reads tarot and what is your take on them? What are they about to you, how do they "work"? Is it a spiritual thing for you? Here's my thoughts, just as an example template. I have done tarot for about 12 years now and they didn't start to really CLICK until about 5 years ago. Since then, my readings almost feel like the spirit world is directly and clearly addressing my every concern. I think they take a lot of time to understand, and they "work" similarly to dream interpretation. It is just vague strange symbols placed in a specific scenario. It either resonates with you and creates a clearer picture of your life situations, or doesn't make any logical sense and you shrug it off. BUT I do feel that if you practice the cards for many years, just as if you study dream interpretation for many years, if you want to incorporate spiritual connection with it, you can. But in reality, all they are are cards with pictures on them. No magic, no evil, no energy. The reader creates it. I also have done very little readings for others. Mostly for myself. I want to read for others, but I am concerned the readings won't be very clear because I would know nothing about the person (if I were reading for a stranger). I also do not place any kind of REAL psychic merit or fortune-telling into tarot. I HAVE, however, had psychic strange uncanny future-telling things happen in readings in the past. But I don't know that they ALWAYS can be that way. I think maybe I just need to practice doing readings for others. So, yeah. What is other people's experiences with this? Even if you only had a reading, was it memorable? |

wow what a reminder I haven't picked up my deck for years. I used to love reading cards. How do they work... for me I don't want to think about it as it raises too any questions which I will ultimately have to answer for myself. I'm pretty sure they do work. I only ever completed one reading where the person I was reading for had no idea what I was on about, but the reading turned out to be for me rather than the person i was reading for. All my other readings have turned out to be insightful. I did a reading for a friend one night, and then laid the cards out for myself and they were the same. Now 15 years later we have been married for almost 10 years. Last edited by silicon toad2000; 08-30-2008 at 04:29 AM. |

How about you do a reading for me? It would be fun, an experiment to see how much of a hit you can get. I'm looking for some career guidance. I haven't posted much information about the the specific details of my career so you wouldn't be able to check that many past posts. You could post your reading on here and I could tell you where it is accurate for me. or pm me if you didn't want to go public. I think it would be fun in the name of practising 'non-attachment' to the results. what do you say? PS I have had a couple of tarot readings in the past. Some intesting insights came up. Even if it isn't psychic ability, I think we all react and make our own meanings out of universal symbols which gives us insight and depth and makes us think more widely around the issue or problem. |

Okay sure, why not. I thought I would need more info about you or a pic or something, but let's just see how it goes... First of all, the reading came up lots of pentacles and some wands, and quite a bit of high cards as well which denotes strong career decisions. At least that part seems accurate concern: 6 of pent, reversed - money problems obstacle: king of wands - enterprise, being in charge objective: Chariot, reversed - losing control thoughts and feelings: High Priestess, reversed - losing touch with your intuition recent past: 10 swords - stabbed in the back near future: The Devil - attachment, blindness attitude: 2 wands - beginning stages of an enterprise influences: Justice - the right decision hopes and fears: 7 pent - slow and steady growth probable outcome: 4 pent - hard work pays off It appears you are feeling stuck and attached to a job or career that has done you wrong. You want to do something challenging and exciting. You do not feel that your work is in alignment with your purpose. You are having financial issues and you don't want it to get out of hand. Your job or career is not turning out the way you hoped or expected it to. However, you might have given some thought to making a change, and quite possibly have already taken small action. You either have good money management skills, or the support of someone who does and is giving you strong and sound advice about making this change. Nothing is really happening yet but you are maybe creating a foundation for change. You don't want to get rich quick, you want to be comfortable and stable, and you want to have control over your life and finances. At the same time you have a little difficulty actually imagining yourself living that kind of life, like it may be too far fetched in your head. BUT it appears that this is what you will probably achieve anyway, in much time though. You might take awhile to pry yourself out of your current situation because you are attached and are maybe afraid to change. But it is only fear making you stick around. So there it is, weird cuz its actually pretty vague but thats kind of how tarot works, in my opinion. hopefully it resonates with you and is beneficial. If not, it was at least interesting practice! The weird thing is that reading also makes sense for my recent situation, and i think it also makes sense for a lot of people on this board. But on that note, the only thing I know about you is that you are on this board, so that might have something to do with it. Last edited by openyourize; 08-31-2008 at 02:26 AM. |

Alllrighty so I did that reading without knowing a single thing about you. But then I was curious and read a few of your posts afterwards, and now I actually think some of the cards mean a couple different things. 1- the 6 of pent may mean more that you are concerned that the change you want to make might CREATE financial difficulty. 2- the 10 of swords card and justice card might refer more to your personal issues with your significant other, like pain and possible court and legal dealings, doing the right thing. It still appears though that the cards fell together possibly accurately. I do know if I were doing a face to face reading with you, I would be asking you things like, "does this make sense in your life?" cuz it might mean something else, and the point is to make the cards make sense, not make them be mind reading psychics. i just want my readings to create clarity for people. |

| Hey, Thanks for that. That was good! I've added in my comments in blue for you. It appears you are feeling stuck and attached to a job or career that has done you wrong. You want to do something challenging and exciting. You do not feel that your work is in alignment with your purpose. Yes! You are having financial issues and you don't want it to get out of hand. Your job or career is not turning out the way you hoped or expected it to. Not financial issues as such, but concerned about the economy and with your amended reading, yes, am concerned that making a change will affect my income However, you might have given some thought to making a change, and quite possibly have already taken small action. Yes You either have good money management skills, No not anywhere near what I would like or the support of someone who does and is giving you strong and sound advice about making this change. Yes have great mentor Nothing is really happening yet but you are maybe creating a foundation for change. You don't want to get rich quick, you want to be comfortable and stable, and you want to have control over your life and finances. Yes At the same time you have a little difficulty actually imagining yourself living that kind of life, like it may be too far fetched in your head. Yes - having trouble imagining it BUT it appears that this is what you will probably achieve anyway, Cool in much time though. Doh! You might take awhile to pry yourself out of your current situation because you are attached and are maybe afraid to change. But it is only fear making you stick around. Yup my old friend fear! I'm really impressed with your reading. That was really good. I hope that the swords card doesn't mean court etc with H though! I feel upset but stabbed in the back might be a bit strong to express it. How did it feel for you to do a reading cold over the t'interweb and get feedback? Do you feel like you have learned something for yourself from the experience? |

yes that was definitely a cool experience, thank you. I am glad it made sense. the swords card could mean a lot, because it is the card that represents your past. i think the justice card is referring to your mentor. YAY! I am glad it worked so, uh, anyone else want one? |

I would love one! I have had a very tumultuous few years with myself internally, and externally, but all the problems I have had has resulted in many many spiritual gains. I am wondering if I will be successful amidst all the obstacles I have been facing lately, and if I will be able to live a highly spiritual life. I have been experimenting with tarot cards, but use them more for meditation right now than for reading, so I am really interested in getting one! Thanks in advance! With Tarot- I see it more like a trigger to what you already know to be true on some level. It's your interpretation of the cards rather than the cards themselves that make the truth. I find it can be a good tool to get you to admit to yourself what you already know deep down. It's also enlightening to note what resonates with you from the readings and those things tend to be something that either you need to think about or that is somewhere in your subconscious. The tarots just bring it into your conscious mind. Any of want to try it out here is a tarot website- FREE Tarot Readings |

I've been using tarot cards a bit recently and last night I had a dream that I was doing a reading for a friend that I haven't seen in more than 5 years. I don't think that the person was significant - but every single card I pulled in the spread was a pentacle. Anyone have any idea what the significance of this might be?

I have been drawn to use tarot lately. I give intuitive readings for people, and most have been spot on, and very helpful. I'm thinking the cards might be a useful tool. I went to a store clearance here, and there were MANY types of tarot to choose from. I ended up getting Walter Luebecks' Chakra Energy Cards - my hands got HOT when I picked them up, so I chose those! I haven't even really explored them to see if I can use them in readings for others or not. My feeling is that this is a really DENSE system, I'll have to study a bit to use these cards; it won't be something simple. Is there a specific type of tarot you'd recommend? If so, why? Any resources? Thanks! |

I use the Rider-Waite deck which is a really common one. I find it really good because there is a lot of symbolism and allegory and I've found it easier to pick up the multiple meanings of each card. Rider-Waite tarot deck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia But if you had such a strong attraction to the chakra deck then it would be worth exploring your relationship with this. I haven't seen the deck before. |
