meditation to hear guides and spirit?

hello to everyone, 1st post so here it is,
i have started to meditate for about 10 or 15 minutes and feel at peace and lighter. during this time i try to have blank thoughts and not lead my mind in any direction. i want to try going to higher planes and hear what my guides and spirits have to say but i dont know what to do next. what do i think about? do i picture myself going somewhere higher to meet them? how do i know if im doing it right. i have read a book but it seems vague. answers to my questions or a suggested book to read are greatly appreciated. thank you

Over time, you'll find the way that works best for you. In the meantime, experiment. There is a lot of information on Erin's blog. Try things you read about, and try things you come up with yourself.

People talk about raising your vibration in order to hear your guides. You do this by moving from fear/guilt/apathy toward love/happiness/gratitude. (I simplified somewhat, but that's the gist of it.)

Either on Erin's blog or in her posts here, she has talked about visualizing yourself going up or down an escalator or elevator in order to meet either your guides or higher self. I don't remember which was which, though. Personally, I connect without the visualization.
