Since marrying and changing my name at the end of May, I can't help but feel that my new name has quite a different vibration (thank goodness, higher) than the old. Don't ask me how I notice - I just do! Do any of you know how this works? Which names get which vibrations and why? Are there rules or laws concerning this? |

In that process, you may have given your new name some power or significance to help you to relate to your new state – like having a title bestowed upon you, which officially confirms your new status and gives you that extra boost of confidence. However, you can still be a princess without actually having the title of Princess! | |

I'm not Christian but I think a good way to start what I was good to say is with 'In the beginning was the word, and the word was God'. Names have power. The story of Rumplestiltskin (I think I've spelt it wrong - lol) illustrates this. Often in mythology the naming of something can have a profound effect. Think about what you are saying when you say 'can you SPELL that to me'. Names - and indeed words have power. They have magic. Sword is an anagram of 'words'. In numerology each letter is attributed with a corresponding number and each number contains and essence or power. By changing your name you also change your nummerology. When people call us the wrong name it can really jar - it strikes at the heart of us. I was never happy with my birth name (first or surname) right from being a child. When I finally changed it a few years ago I suddenly felt like me. The vibration of the old name didn't 'fit' me. It always felt wrong. Now when someone calls me by my new name it feels completely right. It took a while for friends to get used! Often in religious or spiritual orders, people take a new name to represent their dedication to the path. In some branches of witchcraft you take a second name at initiation - sometimes known only to yourself - sometimes to the circle you work with if you work with others. Some shamans say to know another's true spirit name is to have power over them. There seems to be quite a lot of superstition around changing the names of boats or houses. But essentially your name is a vibration you respond to. I think it's lovely that you feel the difference in your name and wish you much happiness in your new married life x |

Thank you for your replies. Your post, LeahWhiteHorse, intrigued me. I have to agree that there is more to a name than what is on the surface. Names really mean something! I checked out my new name's numerology (#3) and compared with the old (#9). Much to my surprise the new name description really feels so much more like me, too - just as the new name does. So, I totally get what you're saying with about feeling better in a name. How wonderful you found one which fits you, too. I don't know if it matters, but I didn't actually give up my old name. My husband and I took each other's names and created an alliance-name. It feels very good ... as if it were meant to be. Perhaps it is a sign of being on the right path in this lifetime. |

Names are interesting. They have connotations and associations. But, if you believe they have any kind of intrinsic power in themselves, then you are just giving way to superstition (like believing the number 13 is unlucky). If you invoke the name of Jesus or Satan, for instance, it is the intent and belief you have in that name which appears to give it power. But then, we are getting into the realm of symbols and memes. However, some words, in sounding them do have a vibration to them, which resonates within, like Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmm! |

I've always noticed a particular similarity between people with the same name parts. For instance, I used to have a friend named Patrick who shared many similar characteristics or experiences with other patricks I've met throughout the years. I share many similar personality traits and historical coincidences with other people named Paul. It could very well be coincidence, but it occurs so often. However, a name does have a great deal of significance. After all, we name our children with the same names as honored ancestors and friends, in part because we hope that they will take on some of the characteristics belonging to their namesake. Quite often, they do. I think there is some kind of connection to be sure. |
