Jokes coming true?

Do you ever just joke around, but then find it being real? Like, you're just kidding, but it becomes true?

I was watching the Olympic trials last week. And they were showing a closeup of this runner. He was supposed to be the favorite to win the gold in the 200 meter race. I don't know what compelled me to say this, but I said, "Watch him trip. And then he'll have to join a bobsled team to make it to the Olympics." (a joke, referencing the movie Cool Runnings)

But then the race starts, and he DOES completely beef it. The runner, Tyson Gaye had a massive cramp and just loses his balance. Crashing to the ground, rolling.

I felt terrible! I didn't think it would actually happen. It was really bizarre. And even though I know I was just joking, I still felt pretty guilty. So lately, I've been trying not to joke about bad things.

Has this ever happened to you though?

Ugh yes, which is why I tend not to joke about bad possible situations in my life anymore. When I graduated from college a number of years ago, I moved quickly from one state to another for a while. I started joking a number of times to my friends when I'd be in my college town or when I call them, and they asked me where I was living, I'd tell them jokingly that I was homeless, and it'd produce a good laugh. Eventually, not long afterward....I really became homeless in a state far away from friends and family with little money and no jobs and ended having sleeping in my car for a little while...! After that, no more joking about possible bad future for me.

Yeah, since I'm usually pessimistic when it comes to myself, I try not to joke about bad things. Or you know, my friends getting pregnant and stuff. :P
