Is this my ego? or higher self? or a diferent manifestation of my guides?

First of all Hello everyone 
Well, I read sometime ago Steve’s article My Favorite Meditation and I decide to try it. Everything was nice at first, I got relaxed easily and I felt good. When I was ready to go into the next part of the meditation something weird happen: I sit in one chair, and when I was just about to think in detail how “The ideal me” in ten years from now will look, a person enter into the room and sit in the chair in front of me.
I was like “...huh? That was quick”. I look him and physically he didn’t look like me at all.
I tried to talk to him but he barely answer. At that time I thought the whole thing was my imagination so i decide just go out of there and sleep. I repeat the meditation a couple of times but I got always the same results, and the communication wasn’t very good between us. He wasn’t hostile or anything, he actually seems really equilibrate but he just didn’t talk much.

A few days later I find the article Visualization-Meditation Exercise: Go To Your Room. I try it and when I finally get to my room there he was, the same guy. I ask him what he was doing here and he answer (in a almost happy tone ) “Im suppose to be here”.
We sit and I start to talk to him and he answer many of my questions and then I remember: He should be the future me but I felt something wrong there. He didn’t felt like me. Im not sure how it suppose to feel be in front of my future “Self" but I knew or felt he was not me.

All of the questions I ask him I never thought in ask him who he was, so in that moment I did, I ask him if he was my guide, and he just smile. I was confuse so I say “I want to talk to mi guides” and three persons show up un in a corner of the room: Two old men and an old woman. The woman seems to be very important since the men stay behind her all the time.
The guy stand and walk to my side and look them. I ask to the woman if they were my guides and she answer, “You know we are”.

At this point, I had mixed feelings about all this and because that was the first time I’ve done any of this and the idea of that was all my imagination don’t stop to pop out in my head but decided to go on.

“If you are my guides, then how is he?” The woman looks the guy that was now stand beside me and she just move the head saying “no”.
“No what?” I ask, but she keep moving her head in sign of no.
I get out of there, took all the way up and open my eyes, just to be sure I wasn’t dreaming.
Since then I have done the room meditation a lot of times, like 4 times every week and the guy is always there, so are the old woman and the men. Now I know that the old woman and the old men are my guides, like she said, but I don’t know who the guy is.
He still very present in all my day and I can talk to him as if I talk to my guides, and his answer are direct and clean.
Lately I been thinking that he may be my ego, but for what I have read the ego keep you kind of down and this person doesn’t, he actually encourage me to face my fears, so Im not sure about it.
Also may be my higher self but I didn’t feel it right but it could be.

Could be he my ego?

If that happened to me I would be extremely firm about him telling me who he is or I would remove him from "my room." If he's friendly, he'll tell you. If he's not, he'll reveal his true self. If you get weird vibes from him and want him gone, tell him to leave, and if he doesn't seem to be leaving or you can't get rid of him, bring in an angel like Michael to clean house.
