A few months ago I was able to meditate almost every day, as I'd listen to guided meditations on my bed with the curtains closed, room darken. I think mediation really helped me, espically with my dream recall. A little while ago though, whenever I began to mediate after I finished I wouldn't get that relaxed fresh feeling. I began to feel very groggy. Also whenever I meditate now I feel very tired, that type of tired you feel when you get sick, and the achey tirdness sweeps overs you, and it really doesn't feel very pleasant. Now this situation has gotten so bad I no longer want to meditate, because it makes me feel awful after I do it. I haven't changed my style of meditation since when I could do it normally, I never have changed it. Also, the feeling of groggyness doesnt just come over me when I'm meditating, sometimes I can be in the lightest aterled state possible. For example, about a day ago I was sitting in a chair listening to music with my eyes closed, and it had an effect on me! Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong here? Suggestions on how to stop this very unpleasant feeling? Because I know, when you meditate you're suppoused to feel fresh and relaxed, not tired and sickly! |

I've had that problem too. Try drinking a large amount of water before you meditate (like a bottle or 2...or have a bottle before and after), that really helped me a lot. The grogginess could be due to dehydration.

I am experiencing the same situation. Where do you live? If it's summer time and your room is warm, like mine is, you might experience that stuff. I'd recommend a few things that really help. 1. Go for a swim. It feels quite awesome and you feel amazing for hours afterwards. Feed yourself positivity after a good swim and I've found, at least in my case, it tends to stick better. 2. Drink water. Lots of water. That's all I could think of. Report back and tell us how it goes! |

Thank you both for the replys! As for where I live...well, it's not exactly the warmest place in the world, so I don't think its the weather causing it. I'll try to drink more water around when I meditate, thank you for the suggestion!

How long do you usually meditate for? Perhaps you can experiment with different lengths of meditation at different times. It could also just be that you are in a clearing/releasing phase energetically. All that regular meditation started to release old stagnant energy, leaving you feeling tired as it clears out. One more idea is do more grounding work, like to exercise more and make sure you're eating healthy. I don't know how long you have been a meditator, but it is common to go through different phases of experience. Don't be afraid that you are stuck in this phase. As they say, this too shall pass. |

Hi Phantom, If you're doing guided meditations, they may be taking you too far out of your body. Like awakentransform says, you may be becomming ungrounded. If too much of your energy is pulled out of your physical body and into the spiritual plane, you are going to get very, very sleepy. By the way, this is one of those things to be wary of. There is no separation between the physical and spiritual planes. We don't have to leave our bodies behind in any way, shape or form. Ideally, when we meditate, we don't have to "go" anywhere. Some guided meditations are great to get us in touch with different aspects and realms within ourselves, but often they are presented as "going somewhere." That's not a problem either - I've written lots of guided meditations that take the listener elsewhere. But we have to remember that it's all right here, in the present, accessible right from where we are. So just check in and see if you're "going" somewhere excessively while meditating. You might want to try just focusing on your breath for five minutes at a time, and make that your daily practice for a while. By using a physical function as a focus tool, you are anchoring yourself into the physical plane while meditating.
