I realized this not even a month ago and I have been slowly developing this idea. What if the reason why people have psychic experiences is because they really need them? Such as, I met several people who say that they are avid astral projectionists, one of these people used her astral projection abilities as an escape from real life. She used this because her life was in turmoil. I just found it interesting that psychic abilities tend to correspond to people who really need them (be it as their way of surviving or for the "prestige" that it brings), but I also think that a lot of the people who claim to use psychic abilities, tend not to care really about improving their lives, they literally live through their psychic experiences instead of living their actual lives (why contend with real life when you have all these other incredible experiences and deal with the supernatural, rather than dealing with things that are affecting you right now?). I'm not saying that all people who use psychic abilities are like this, but it happens. Any thoughts? Last edited by Mew3692002; 06-08-2008 at 03:02 AM. |

I think that can happen not only with psychic skills, but also with mathematics, computer science, sport and so on. Even there you can find people that "do not care to improve their lives". But what does that mean - "to improve their lives"? From which point of view? Yours, theirs? |

That's true but what I meant by "improving their lives" is to strive to do what they want with their life. All to often these people decide to stick themselves in a job that they hate, doing work that they complain about, and for what reason? They aren't striving to be who they want to be, they are more concerned with what they want to learn as life lessons instead of taking life by the horns and just saying, "why not?". But the point of what I was saying was these people need psychic abilities in their lives for what ever reason.

Yes but, as its been mentioned there are lots of other things besides 'psychic abilities' that people use to bury themselves away from their lives. (although i disagree that psychic abilities are there as a distraction). Majority of people need to work on their lives, many of them don't. it has nothing to do with delving into psychic abilities. maybe people ask for help, and are open to possibilities therefore start experiencing things. but that's not always the case. Everyone's lives could always use improvement -- psychic or not. Many people don't strive for the jobs they dream of because they have the notion they can't. They don't always turn to psychic abilities for lessons they have to learn. Many people don't even acknowledge that they have lessons to learn. Maybe they'd rather strive for that then dream jobs, perhaps they just enjoy dreaming and don't really have that much motivation to go for them. Last edited by amixa; 06-09-2008 at 05:33 AM. |

You're right amixa, it's just that the people who tend to make me think of not going to improve my life to the way I would want to live it tend to be the people who are heavily into the psychic. This probably would apply to a lot of people who might not be into psychic work, but I decided to specifically look at that group of people. They can say that they can't for whatever reason (I tend to hear that beings of higher planes would stop you for some reason, such as angels, but it was never really explained why they thought that way), so that is a pretty good point. I guess to each their own but I refuse to live in a dream, I'd rather turn my dreams into reality instead of just pushing down the feeling that I should be living my dreams, not having my dreams live me. Also, I agree that psychic abilities should be used in a balance way, not to have it interfere with your life that you are trying to live, rather, help it to achieve your dreams, but I usually don't see this very much for some reason (although there are many exceptions to this). Although, I've seen plenty of people who really don't have psychic abilities (as far as I could see and they admit to not having any abilities in that field) who really succeed in what they want to do in life, so having psychic abilities may help with life, but it isn't absolutely essential to living a purposeful life. I guess it depends on your viewpoint. |

One of my friends uses her psychic abilities in very practical ways: Knowing when another car is going to change lanes or do something unsafe, knowing when a friend could use a phone call, avoiding people who are unsafe or energy-draining, understanding her business contacts better, and so on. She *is* interested in improving her life, gaining self awareness, and improving herself and uses her abilities to assist with that. Don't pay attention to people who want to limit you, and you may want to distance yourself from people that limit themselves. Be and become your best self! |

Sorry but the title of this post interested me. I have never needed psi abilities or wanted them. Like others, I was lucky to realize early on in life that MY world was not what it seemed. So I Observerd it.....Learned.....Change Direction.......Learn IT Too my surprise it worked just like everyone thought it didnt ((((SO FAR)))). Sometimes it just turns up with the answer to what you call a "GIFT" |

I think it is a tool. I've had some paranormal experiences since I was very young but it was only until recently that some psychic abilities began to rapildy develop. During this time I believe I was in crisis which helped me to develop. But I think if it does manifest itself it is for a purpose. It is just something that's meant to be. I don't think it used as an escape either. It's meant to be used as a positive tool and it helps place things in their proper context.
