A strange occurrence has been happening to me for about a month now, starting ever since I began school last month and needed to use an alarm clock again. What happens is that every time I set my alarm clock to wake me up in the morning, I will wake up by myself always within 5 minutes before my alarm is supposed to go off. I could understand that this wouldn't be so unusual if I set my alarm to go off at the same time every day and always went to sleep at the same time the night before - in a case like this maybe you could train your body to sleep for only a certain number of hours; but that is not the case. Every day I need set my alarm to go off at different times: sometimes 8am, 6am, 9am, etc. Also, I don't always get the same amount of sleep either. For example, on a day when I set my alarm for 6am I probably only get 6 hours of sleep whereas if its 9am I usually sleep for 8 hours. So why is it that I am able to wake up at almost the exact time that I want to (less than 5mins before my alarm is supposed to go off) even with all this variance of different waking up times and various hours spent sleeping. It cant be just coincidence because it happens almost 100% of the time now. Any thoughts? |

I would imagine it's because in your head you are thinking "I need to wake at such-and-such time tomorrow." Similar to how you can tell yourself you want to dream about a certain thing and then it happens. The mind/body connection is pretty amazing.

But, what amazes me is the accuracy in timing. Like, my alarm will be set for 8:00 and I will wake up by myself at 7:58. It's like theres a running clock in my brain that can keep track of the time while I'm sleeping and then wake me up at the exact desired time. - my own personal alarm clock |

I do the same thing all the time. I hate hearing the alarm clock go off, so I always wake up right before it goes off. In my perspective, it is our greater awareness that wakes us up on time. We have far greater untapped abilities - this is just the tip of the iceberg.
