I recently downloaded a "Meet a Guide" meditation (by Jeff Lilly) and listened to it last night. I have a bit of trouble with visualization but I did the best I could.

As soon as I got to the part with the stone bench, my brain did this thing that can only be described as "twitching", and I felt that sensation of "spinning around" when you're lying in bed, except really strongly. I remember being freaked out at the strength of the feeling and eventually turning off the meditation, hoping my guides would get the message that I'd try again later

I'm wondering if it was an initial contact by guides, because it occurred right at the moment when I was supposed to meet them. However, I've gotten "brain twitches" before, especially when I was taking meds for depression >_< (I'm not on them anymore.) If it was a contact, next time I'll not freak out and actually see what happens ^^

I think so...it was a while ago that I was on them so I'm not sure. They're a pretty common side effect but they haven't happened in a really long time, and it happened precisely at the point where I was supposed to meet my guides so I have to wonder...

Aria, I'm really not sure what that could have been as I've never experienced anything like this myself. I wonder if it was linked to changes in your brainwaves as a result of the meditative activity?

To let you know that others don't think it is weird, I think I had a similar experience when trying to do such a meditation. I don't recall a brain twitch, but the spinning is something I have occassionally had, and especially when trying to do things in a spiritual realm.
Typically I have enjoyed the ride, as I felt comfortable that the spinning was not going to hurt me, but I can't say it does anything for getting closer to a guide.

Thanks for the responses! I talked to a friend who is more experienced in meditation and she said that it corresponds to changing brain states, most notably from beta to alpha.
