Close to an OBE - I think
 

Last night I had an interesting experience.

I was asleep and dreaming. Not sure if it's relevant, but in the dream I was walking into this scary haunted house, and I remember saying to myself, "I won't be scared anymore. I'm going to face these fears." Facing my fears is something that's been on my to-do list lately, so the dream makes sense.

Anyway, I started experiencing "the vibrations" in the dream and I think at that point I became lucid. I became aware of my body in my bed and I could somewhat see my room.

I was definitely not totally awake or fully conscious, it was more of a in between state. At that point I decided I'd try to "get out." So I attempted to sit up. I remember being somewhat successful at it, but it felt like rubber bands or something were attached to me. The farther I got the more resistance I felt, and then I kinda "snapped" back down onto my bed. I don't remember being scared or anything. It was more like "oh yeah, I know what's going on here! let's see if i can pull this off."

Then I think I woke up fully after that.

So I dunno. Coulda been a dream I guess. Does this sound like I was close to an OBE? Is there always some kind of resistance at first?

Sounds like an OBE to me. Congratulations! I think the amount of resistance depends on the person. Definitely the more you do it, the more comfortable you begin to get with the process.

The key is that you are willing to face your fears. If you persist, you will have success.

Wow sounds cool. I think I had an OBE when I was younger, or I was lucid.
Because I was in a place quite like your dream, it was like haunted house type of thing lots of dark purples and dark browns, and I was at my house and I'm like "I must be dreaming....when is this going to end??" I think I waited like 10 minutes it seemed for the dream to end....Yeah wasted exp.

Also if you obe you can like go anywhere? So if I do this I can like think "area 51" and be there?

Not sure what you can do. That's the first time that's ever happened to me.

But I've read some pretty cool stories. Google the "saltcube forum." It's a pretty cool forum devoted to lucid dreaming/astral projection/OBEs. Plus Erin has some pretty awesome stories on her blog.

I have read that fear is one major roadblock to astral projection and stuff, so I found it interesting that the dream I had led to that OBE experience.

I think the question of whether you can go anywhere is very interesting. I have mostly read that you could go anywhere, but that has not been my personal experience. For awhile I kept trying to go to China for some odd reason, but I never ended up there. On the other hand, when I would think of a loved one, I would instantly be there with them. So it might be a matter of energetic connection.
