On Thursday 3/27 I was in bed waiting to fall asleep and I drifted into that place in between sleep and awake. I heard someone (a male with a deep beautiful voice) say "Hello and my name) sort of like he was meeting me for the first time. When I opened my eyes, no one was there that I could see. I was surprised more than scared because I've had times when I've heard someone call my name before and no one is actually there. I figured this was an attempt to get my attention so I said hello out loud and waited but nothing happened. I decided to leave myself "open" to "messages" and once again drifted off into that space between wakefulness and sleep and this time I seemed to come in on the end of a conversation. I opened my eyes again but no one was there. About two days after this, I was woken up by what sounded like my Grandmother calling my name as though she were trying to wake me up. When I opened my eyes, no one was there. She is in the room next to me so I listened to see if she was in fact calling me. But everything remained quiet. I was particularly concerned about this incident because my grandmother has just been released from the hospital and I thought for sure she was calling to me from the other side to tell me she had crossed over but when I went to check on her she was sleeping peacefully. Throughout the years, I've have heard someone calling my name on several occasions before and when I look around no one is there. It's different from hearing voices in my dreams as it feels as though someone is right there beside me talking to me. It's almost as though someone were trying to get my attention. One time, this actually saved my life as they called my name in a dream and when I woke up, I found that I was laying on my stomach with my face in the pillow and suffocating. Does this happen to anyone else? And what can I do to figure out what it is they want? Or am I just nuts? |

I can't say whether you're nuts or not, but what you are experiencing happens to people all the time. There's a lot of different modes of thought around it. One "scientific" explanation of the voices you hear during the dozing phase of sleep is called hypnogogia. Google it. You'll get a lot more than I could describe for you here. Another way of thinking about it would be from a spiritual standpoint. Often, in this state, we are more accessible to our Spirit Guides, Allies and Benefactors. Check out "Human Vibrational Frequencies" or any other variation on the theme. Again, you'll get more that way than me just spewing my own theory. Your Guides will take any opportunity they get to communicate with us, so if you're open, they'll talk. Good Luck! |

So regardless if whether we're receptive or not they'll keep talking anyway? I wonder if would be better if they were to somehow help us nurture the ability to listen to them . Or is it the case that we are listening to them anyway, and just not aware of it (by default)? |

Of course we should nuruture our spiritual ears. That's the basis of just about every established religion or medatative philosphy mankind has ever created. But for them to nurture our ability to hear them we first have to accept the fact that they can be heard and we need to acknowledge and understand that they have always been talking and communicating with us. In our vanity, we think we have "Imagination" Have you ever done something you knew wasn't right and had that little voice in you "head" chastise you for it? We've created this concept of "conscience" as an internal monitor. Well, I guess in a way it IS internal, but in another way it's just as "external" in that those types of things are ususally our guides correcting, guiding, teaching us. We've never NOT had our guides talking to us. Even before we were born, our guides were there preparing us for our physical existance, giving us pep talks, etc. They didn't stop once our physical bodies were born. So it's natural for us as vain, self-centered beings to think that "it's all about us" and discount their voices as ours. Once we accept the fact that our Guides are present and communicating with us, we begin to recognize all the ways in which they do so. Those weird little "coincidences" that seem to pop up out of nowhere take on a whole new dimension. Thinking about someone whom you haven't seen in a decade and then stumbling into them at the gas station becomes more than just happenstance. The whole world takes on a new level of meaning. At least that was my experience in coming to live with my Guides. It may be different for others. | |

Thank you Mato Kinze for your wonderful posts. They have helped me a lot. I was able to find information on hyponogogia but it didn't seem to fit as this has also happned to me when I'm fully awake. I'm having a little bit more trouble finding information on the Human Vibrantional subject but I've also lost focus since my last visit and haven't done any additional research. A common occurence by the way. Anyway, I do believe it is my guides/higher self trying to get my attention. I'm at the point now where I feel like I need some sort of confirmation that what they are telling me (through intuition and feelings and dreams) is true. I suppose it all comes down to trust which is an issue I struggle with. Thanks again. |

Trust is good. Essential, in fact. That being said, there's nothing wrong with simply asking in a prayerful or meditative way for some validation that what you're experiencing is real. Of course, you have to be open to the answer. I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a wireless commercial(I think it's AT&T, but I'm not sure) where this guy is looking at all these phones trying to decide which is best. He says, "I just wish I could get a sign," and one of the phones litterally jumps off the shelf into his hand. He looks at it for a second and then puts it back saying, "If only there was some way to know...." If you continue to look for the "reason" behind something, you'll always be able to find one that doesn't have anything to do Spirit. But if you're open, you'll also discover that you've been getting these validations all along and just never noticed them. Good luck. |
