Default Dream Interpretation Question

Are any of you good at intepreting dreams? I had a weird one last night.

I was walking with my mom on a busy dock in a Marina. I walked by a tall and very handsome man and we brushed hands, made eye contact and smiled at each other.

Next thing I was on a boat and he was on it. Turns out we have a history, but I have no clue what it is, I just know him and it feels good to think of him.

Then, I was in the bathroom on the boat. I pull a long, white, beetle-like bug from my nose. I was quietly freaking out... Suddenly a praying mantis appears and grabs the bug, going around the corner to eat it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's freaky to me.
I looked up praying mantis thinking it would be something nice. It wasn't!! It could mean I am in a destructive relationship or it could mean I am behaving deviously.
Yuck. LOL. I just thought it meant I should pray more.
Just curious if anyone can interpret dreams. I haven't had a weird one like that in a long time. And, I find it interesting last night I ASKED for a dream. I sure got one!
It seems to me that the dream is specifically about emotions and emotional connections, as well decisions in your life.
The marina is the place that you are at now, somewhere dry (calm) amidst an unknown and seemingly endless sea of emotions. The dock is something that has a comforting and familiar feeling to it.
The boat and the man represent the opposite of where you have been (ie. your career or other familiar things about yourself) and also the unknown (ie. something so new that you don't know what to expect and therefore have uneasiness about it.)
The bug up your nose is most likely representative of something negative that you are unaware of going on behind the scenes. This can be something as small as poor planning or a bill that has gone unpaid.
The praying mantis represents nature and the natural forces of the world. They come in, without being asked, and tidy up the mess for you.
All-in-all I think it says that though there is a balanced and "safe" place in your life which you could cling too (ie. your old ways) if you have the courage to take hold of new people and new, perhaps unknown, situations as they present themselves in your life, the universe will provide what you need to build a whole new reality for yourself.
Just my thoughts. I hope that this helps.
Blessings,
Hi... I like your interpretations... maybe you could give me your take on this redpeated dream I had as young girl, I have had one lady give me some inisght on the dream, but it would be nice to get another view.....
Here is my dream from childhood...
In my dream I am on boat, going very fast over the water, I look over the side of the boat and the Reeds in the lake always turn into snakes, the moment this happens I feel a hand on my back left shoulder and it pushes me....... I wake up terrified
this dream stopped for many years... and I had it once more in my 30's
would appreciate your view on it
thx:-)
Veranadine's interpretation is certainly one way your dream could be viewed and I don't want to discount her interpretation, but I will, with all due respect, offer another:
Water is often representative of Spirit, or the Spirit World. The marina could be seen as the starting point of a spiritual journey or meeting point of the physical world and spiritual world.
The man you felt such comfort with and with whom you have history may likely by your Spirit Guide or Guardian Angel.
This is supported by the fact that you then take a boat trip with him into the spirit realm.
During this trip, you are afforded the opportunity to divest yourself of something that no longer serves you and give it to the Mother to be taken away and devoured, never to bother you again.
The fact that you asked for a Medicine Dream leads me to really feel that this man was a Spirit Ally. Like I said, either a Guide or Angel.
All in all, a very positive dream I'd say.
Keep asking for, and start learning to become lucid during your dreams. It will open a whole new realm of possibility for you.
So, here's my $.02, which is probably just about what it's worth:
Once again, we're dealing with a person verging on Spiritual Awakening by being on a boat in a large body of water.
The snakes are of particular interest. This a powerful Ally -- it is
the symbol of transformation and healing. The Snake is wisdom expressed through healing.
It is a protector and guardian Ally.
If a snake Ally has come into your life, your creative forces are awakening. Your intuition will sharpen and be more accurate.
Snake energy is the energy of wholeness, cosmic consciousness, and the ability to experience anything willingly and without resistance. It is the knowledge that all things are equal in creation.
It also signals a transition in your life: New opportunities and/or changes.
Snake is fire medicine, the medicine of transmutation.
On a material level, it is vitality; on an emotional level, it is ambition and dreams; on a mental level, it is intellect and power; on a spiritual level (the highest level), it is wisdom, understanding and wholeness.
Snake is a powerful ally indeed.
You say that the hand pushed you on the left shoulder. Left is the Spirit side. Right is the Tonal side. It is likely that the push was your Benefactor (aka Higher Self) nudging you to accept the Snake Medicine.
Like I said, that's just my opinion.
Well.. I like that one, too!
I am truly fascinated by dreams, but I admit I know nothing of the interpretations. But, oh am I fascinated!!! Especially since lately I have noticed I can ask for a dream and have one that I remember.
My interpretation of my dream on paper did nothing for what it felt like. I woke up knowing every detail, even the color and grain of the dock and the sound of our footsteps on it.
Pulling a bug from your nose would be a terrifying experience, and in the dream I WAS freaked out, but the overall feeling was a good one.... like "this is corrected now" or something.
Awhile back (months ago) I asked for a dream from my Dad and I got one. Note that I usually hardly ever dream of him (that I remember). The dream I had that night he was at our lake cabin, surrounded by all our dogs... both past dogs we had and future dogs I will own. I didn't know the breeds or names of the dogs, but I just "knew" they were there. I didn't talk to my dad. He was just there. I felt him.
I don't know... I could have totally made that up, but the fact that "future dogs" were in the dream made me feel it "might" be him... I don't know if I am capable of thinking up something as complex as future dogs.. lol. My dad LOVED his dogs, though... all dogs... so that's just something I relate to him.
Anyway. Dreams fascinate me!
Well, that helps...
You are very fortunate. To be able to simply ask for a Dream and be so unencumbered that you receive it is such a gift.
The way you describe your dream tells me that it was certainly a Medicine Dream. These are always different than normal dreams. More intense, use more of your senses, stay with you longer.
Do you keep a Dream Journal for these? If not, you should. Also, practice becoming Lucid during your Dreamtime. If you get to the point where you can become Lucid at will, with the power you have with the Dreamtime, you could be a truly significant Dream Walker.
To see a praying mantis in your dream, suggests that you are in a destructive relationship. It may also indicate that you are preying on others or that you are behaving deviously.
I have always found that the best person to interpret dreams is, well, yourself.
It's not hard to do...there was a book I used to read when I was a teenager called "Living Your Dreams," and it helped me a lot.
Basically, you have your own interpretive symbols. We have collective ones, too, but personal ones are more important. What did you feel toward the man on the boat? Love? Attraction? Peace? Harmony? I don't know you or your life, so it could be very personal. What does a praying mantis mean to you? To some it might mean female power, good or bad. To others, it might just mean a force of nature. Delve into what every element felt to you, and trust in your interpretation of it. When it feels right, it is. Dreams are very personal.
To me this seems like past life imagery. I can't quite put my finger on the meaning of it, but if it were my dream I would think that it was trying to tell me to look into my subconscious for hidden wisdoms.
Snakes are sacred to many ancient Goddesses who were protectors of wisdom and the snake was also the protector of the underworld (hence past lives.)
It is most likely yourself that is pushing you, asking you to examine your illusions closer, to come to a better understanding of your true self.
I wouldn't fear this dream but would instead try meditating on its (obviously) very personal meaning.
Blessings,
Talk about synchronicity - I was thinking this morning about "how do I interpret the dreams I have been recording?" and a bunch of dream interpretation requests came up on the forum!
I agree that a lot of dream interpretation is personal, but I was wondering if there are any good resources on general interpretations. Right now playing in sports and being in school settings seem to dominate my dreams at the moment.
Thanks in advance!
jawillie, different methods exist to interpret dreams. How books intepret symbols will not necesarily relate to your own dream experience. My blog offers a "dream analysis of the week" which offers different ideas. Your own associations and life experiences add dimensions to your interpretation. Objects are often symbolic symbols. A good guide is to reflect on your feelings about each object and dream experience and listen to your intuition.
You may have heard of Jungian, Freudian other approaches to dreams. Another one is the Tibetan dream perspective with at least three types:
1) Ordinary karmic dreams (reflects on daytime activities, and past lives).
2) Spiritual visions
3) Lucid dreams (you're aware of dreaming while doing it)
The Tibetan view is that dreams can be further divided into 6 more areas:
• Dreams of events that occurred while you were awake (for self-reflection/ lessons learned)
• Dreams about other people, alive or dead (note expectations & other emotions)
• Forgotten barriers (i.e. fear, doubt) emerging from the subconscious
• Archetypal symbols
• Extra-sensory perceptions and omens
• Revelation-like spiritual dreams
